  1. Bill Cowher and the Bears would not have been a good fit - he's a 3-4 guy and would have to literally gut the Bears front 7 - and find some real safeties and corners who can play man defense. The only Bear that, theoretically, would fit the mold is Urlacher - had he been drafted by Cowher, he would have been a terror as a 3-4 rush linebacker. At this point, however, he's got too many miles on him. Briggs? Excellent 4-3 linebacker, PERHAPS could play inside in the 3-4 but would be nothing special. As for the future Bears coach, we should remember that Lovie never wanted Ron Rivera. When the Bucs prevented Lovie from hiring Rod Marinelli, he wanted to appoint the Bob "Bubba Gump" Babich to DC. Angelo overruled him and brought in Rivera. I don't believe that Angelo and Chico have any bad blood. The next HC of the Bears - who will be hired prior to the 2010 or 2011 season - will be Ron River or Dave Toub, the only coach on the Bear roster, BESIDES perhaps Ron Turner (and Lovie himself), with any sort of positive league-wide reputation. Every other coach on the Bears is a non-descript nobody with no pedigree prior to joining Lovie's staff.
  2. TRUE, but Matt Forte notwithstanding, Jerry Angelo has a unique knack for blowing 1st and 2nd round picks. As an evaluator of college talent, overall, he ranks in the bottom third in the league among his peers (IMHO anyway). When it comes to evaluating offensive talent, he's among the 4-5 worst GM's in the NFL. If he can get a big-time #1 receiver and not give up a 1st round pick, he'll at least have to consider it. More to the point, one way or the other, he HAS to upgrade a WR corps that is perhaps the saddest I've seen on an NFL roster in the 21st century.
  3. Agreed...I'd take a few other steps... 1. Dvoracek AND Tommie Harris should be in street clothes for AT LEAST one game. The DT rotation should be Idonije, Harrison, Adams and Toieanna. 2. No more games for Nick Roach. He's useless. 3. Mark Anderson needs to be in street clothes. Give his reps to Baldwin 4. Manning - yes on kick returns, no on ANY role on defense. He's an absolutely brutal defensive back and, save for his kick return duties, another rancid draft pick by Jerry Angelo. 5. Kevin Payne - one more game to prove he belongs. 6. Booker? Don't just sit him - CUT him. 7. Vasher? Street clothes. IMHO, Trumaine McBride is a no-talent "try-hard guy" - while he can't cover anyone 1:1, he's going to give the effort that Vasher refuses to give. 8. IF, heaven forbid, the Bears lose to the Rams - a team that has packed it in for the year - Babich, Haley and Wilks should be launched immediately. They can get by with what they have for the remainder of the season, which will be over if they flop in St. Louis.
  4. Hey Iggy - nice to see you too...CBFANS seems to be on the fritz...OR, perhaps Cinci banned me b/c he's a Babich-o-file.
  5. http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/N.../wwhi112008.htm “He’s gotten really soft, leaving big cushions and whiffing on most of his tackles,” one team insider said of Vasher. “He at least used to throw his body around and provide some run support. Worse than that, he’s no longer making any plays to speak of (with only one interception).” Another declining defender who was particularly exposed against the Packers is NT Dusty Dvoracek, who we hear could be losing more than a little playing time to Anthony Adams, who many close to the team believe should be on the field a lot more after being inactive is seven of the 10 games this season. Said one daily team observer of Dvoracek: “If the Bears had a nose tackle who could stay on his feet, (MLB) Brian Urlacher might be able to do his job. (Dvoracek) is getting knocked off the ball like I’ve never seen.”
