The first problem is the tests their using is only 50% effective according to the FDA . after the first of the year they are going to a different test. So that screws stuff up. Then whether vaccinated (93%) in NFL, or not you can still catch it. The death rate is 1/10th of 1% if under 50. This is never going away. We have to treat it like the common flu and live with it. Before covid , we never treated flus like this. It is more contiguous before no different in deaths than the flu. So once big pharma quits pushing this fear narrative for profit, we can get back to normal. it will take another year before we get back to close to normal.

Everything is speculation who would be good and not. Who thought Kingsbury would do well, I sure didn't. Nagy was king of the hill after 2018 and look where he is now. Its tough finding a Tom!in type. I think Todd Bowles that had previous head coach experience would be less risky.

I think we need to be realistic when projecting possible FAs. We have a lousy cap space and a WR that will come here will not be getting a big paycheck. Maybe 4 60 mil is the most will not get you the top of the group. If they draft one , those odds go down. We will not be the highest bidder for any free agents this yr. That leaves AROB, Goodwin and Adams out of the picture. Gallup is projected to make 12 mil a yr. Mike Williams is estimated to make 15.5 a yr.

We have been in this position to many times. At this point we need to let the young players play and see what we have. Jenkins got thrown in the fire. Next week will be much better.

I stand corrected. Never seen this story. The only one I read was a SI story that suggested deal was not done yet.
-
The only in depth information I found on the topic was a SI story. I'm not trying to suggest he is a good dude, just that the narrative was worst than the story suggested. I will try to find a link.

He does what he thinks will allow him to win the game. They won. When Nagy had the 2018 season where he dumbed it down and added some trick plays, we won. We thought we had this great hire. 4 yrs later, John Fox had a better offensive scheme. The McDaniels era in Denver started out rough because he wanted to bring his own QB and would make Jay Cutler compete for the job. He made some bad decisions leading to a11-17 record. How was that betrayal to anyone. John Elway was in Benson's ear trying to get his foot in the door, so they fired him. The Colts job hire broke down when the Colts wouldn't give him control of the organisational aspect of the team. He wanted to remake the Colts into the Patriots then Kraft told him if he stayed he would take over when Brady and Belichick retired. Brady moved on and Belichick didn't retire, so that's off the table now. He never signed a contract and bailed . The colts pulled a Bears move and announced the hire before he was hired. He didn't bail on a job hire. I'm not saying he's the likable guy Nagy is , but he has a better offensive mind, because offense ain't working here. Any job hire will have its good and bad aspects. McDaniel can win with Fields, ill take that.

He is being connected to the Bears because someone is projecting that because he played for them. For me having been a HC before carries merit. Also he has had success as a DC. The most important thing that any DC oriented prospect have to offer is to answer the question , who will be your OC? The hiring will be about Fields, period. I get the feeling Pace will not be leaving, of which he already should have been fired over his cap management, but will be moved to President of football operations. Moving Phillips to getting the new stadium on board. I think that would not be a bad thing to at least have a football guy in that position. Then Pace will hire a new GM that will in turn hire a new coach. Because of Paces ties to Payton in NO, could he want out of NO with the fall off of success from the Brees era? Bringing Payton in to be GM and HC to work with Fields? Payton is one of the better coaches in the league, and maybe he would look for a new challenge?

That could very well happen, but do we hire or not hire a coach because of a maybe? I doubt Belichick leaves in one or two yrs with a rookie QB that could put him on a path to several future SB wins. I dont think they are strong enough this yr to take a SB win, but have progressed to one of the better teams in the American league. Brady won one, Belichick wants to set himself apart from , he needed Brady to win, with another QB that sets him up for multiple SB wins. I do think Indy or Denver prohibits him from getting him a HC job again.

I cant believe anyone hasnt mentioned Josh McDaniels. He , although failed, has head coaching experience. Runs a offense in NE that adapts to his talent, instead of trying to push a specific scheme. He handles the QB coaching duties also . Mac Jones has not been spectacular but he seems to be doing what is needed to get the job done. He believes in the run, and good defenses. I think he would be the best choice as the new coach.

I dont think any of our high priced defensive vets are tradable. Big salaries and in case of Mack, Trevathan they have injuries now. Jackson is not worth his contract so I doubt if anyone would want him. With Jenkins still a question mark , I think they will wait and see what we got in him before drafting a LT high again. Maybe a OC or RG if a talent is available. BUT with a new GM on the horizon , hard to guess how he lists his priorities. I think CB , if available should be the #1 priority, then WR and OL.

I think with all our needs next year, we will be keeping J. James, Kmet, Horsted . I think he is not considered a blocker and that has to do with his playing time. With AROB out, because of his size, I would think he would get some reps on the field. 6-4 241 is good size. When they need a power package they have been bringing in A. Bars to fill the TE spot.

We need a OC, whether Daniels moves over or we draft one. Also another quality WR (forget AROB), either by draft or a Gallup type (still not cheap). Definitely a CB. We should take the BPA at a spot of need at any of our low picks. Our needs (my opinion) CB, WR, OC, DT, TE in that order. When we fire Pace and Nagy, everyone in the system goes. My thought is to move Pace over to president of Football Operations ( eliminate Phillips) a new GM, and new Coach. That way we can keep our scouts of which I think are finding some gems. Maybe some more opinions in the room will keep Pace in check on some of his dumb moves. 2020 draft -Kmet-Johnson-Gipson-Mooney all part of our core going forward. Vidor is just a depth player, maybe he can survive in the NB spot. 2021- Fields-Jenkins-Borom-Herbert-Newsome-Graham- Tonga. The jury is still out on most of these players but Fields is probably our franchise QB -Borom, Tonga, and Herbert show they can play. Jenkins may be good but we dont know yet. Newsome and Graham will need to prove themselves. Dont forget the UDFA's from those years that are still hanging around Snowden-Caleb Johnson-Brian Johnson-Sam Kamara-Artavis Pierce-Lacan London-Ladarius Mack-Dieter Eiselen. A few may end up being quality backups one day. Offensively ) Fields- Monty- K Herbert- Mooney- Kmet- Jesse James-Tarek Cohen-Jakeem Grant. With additions of another WR and TE, we may be able to push a modern scoring offense. Oline) Whitehair-Jenkins-Borom-Ifed are the only Oline signed for 2022. At worst we have to resign Daniels and move him to center and let Ifed play the RG position. Bring back Bars and Mustifer for depth. Every time Bars plays he gets good reviews so maybe we can play him at RG and let Ifed go. Defense) Mack-Quinn-EJAC- Trevathan all have big contracts that will not allow them to leave. R. Smith has one year left, we need to give him his money. Tonga-Blackson-Edwards-Attaochu-Tashaun Gipson-Goldman are still under contract. We need to resign Blair Nichols at a team friendly contract. Bring back Bush and DHC for depth at S position.

Rumor: Bears to Fire Nagy after Thanksgiving
Stinger226 replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
This is an odd situation . You think it could be real then George speaks out , none of it is true? I think Nagy is gone, but maybe not until the end of the yr. Like AZ said, it seems Pace may not be going anywhere. With the new stadium on the horizon, maybe Pace heads that moves up the ladder and hires a GM and new coach. -
I agree with most of your comments . DM still has a contract thru 2022. 1.2 mil. He will still be here. Nichols didnt take a step forward but resign him to a team friendly deal. I think it is time to cut ties with Hicks. Coming back to this team will cost to much. He aint going to sign a 1 yr 5 mil deal. Tonga and Blackson will have to fill the role and draft someone. The big contracts arent going anywhere. To much dead money. Mack, EJAC, Quinn. It will also cost 9 mil next yr if we cut Danny Trevathan. A lot of bad contracts on this team will limit what we can do. It will now cost us 5 mil to cut Graham. Pace played to much with the cap. We need to acquire a CB, WR and OC in that order. I could also see maybe finally moving Daniels to OC and maybe have a new guard. WE do have a core of players to work with. Fields-Mooney-Kmet-Bosom-Jenkins?-Herbert--Whitehair-R Smith- J Johnson-T Gibson. Daniels contract is up and I think they bring him back for decent money. We need a good GM and let him pick everyone. The Pace era is over.
-
I can see them taking a partner for the new stadium coming but not sure of cutting ties completely. I don't think Besos is a sports guy. He has failed in other ventures, look at CNN. Went from top to bottom.
-
Michael Gallup is available I think. He got lost in transition when they drafted Lamb and acquired Cooper. He had good yrs in 2019 and a decent yr in 2020. Could be gotten cheap, has did nothing this yr.
-
He hasn't been good since his first 3 yrs. He's not going to have instant success unless he goes to a Brady or Rodgers. Poor leadership here which means he would be a cancer .
-
For us to come back after 12 penalties , totally bad ref calls, we have some positives. Fields is getting better. The defense played decent enough to win with EJac, Mack, Ogeltree out and Hicks going down during the game. Borom has a bright future. As much as we bring up Paces mistakes, Borom, Hebert, Mooney, and Kmet are big pluses. DM is very good and with Hebert in the wings, we are finally becoming a good running team. They started getting ARob into the game plan. I guess the more Fields develops the more everyone gets more targets. This is becoming fun even with all the glaring mistakes. Nagy definitely needs to be gone. It is always a bad leadership problem with a lack of discipline on your team.

I would have thought with his talent, he would be a stud in every game but the NFL is a cruel place to work.
