Johnson had to know early he was coming here to have the lineup card ready to go. No one will say it, but as soon as our season ended, all parties had to know he was coming here. That's why there was no money negotiation.

To walk into a new building and command the attention, taking control, is a great sign of leadership .

The draft this year is weak at OT and center but lots of good guard prospects. Guards are found out of the first round all the time. Also DT and DE are loaded. Our first 3 picks can be blue chip players easily and at 72 finding a OG won't be a problem. I expect 2+2 OL and DL. I think free agency will land at least one OL starters. I think they bring back Shelton if we draft a rookie at center to allow the new center to develop first before he gets the starting job. I seen one podcast breakdown of Matt Campbell that said he has high football IQ and was calling the line calls from the tackle spot the last 2 years at LSU. He stated that Campbell could be a day one starter and future pro bowler if put at center.

Is Kingsbury now a better option than Johnson?

Actually a person can move his eyes without moving his head. Try it in the mirror. -
Not sure why everyone keeps saying we need an upgrade at TE2? The OC didn't scheme targets for Kmet let alone Everett. Everett problem was lack of targets. Now we need an upgrade of a blocking TE .
-
I seen where someone mentioned the OL coach of Lions as the new OC. It would be a promotion and Ben is calling the plays anyway. Never heard of a OL becoming a OC before.
-
Asking about Tom Brown working here refers to Johnson wanting him here, the brass interfering in hires is over. I suggest seeing he worked with Caleb in a positive way may incite Johnson to hire him as a QB coach?

When you talk to a bunch of people about the state of the bears, you have to gain insight as how to correct the mistakes made. From what I read, Poles, Warren, Cunningham and Jeff King were the main interviewers and the other 2 just sat in on meetings . I totally thought it was ridiculous to meet with that many coaches but it may have been the smart thing to do knowing they would have to wait for Johnson to finish playing.
-
Poles carries accountability for some of the mess but I don't think the brass would allow him to fire Flus if he wanted to. Of course I don't know his true opinion but as you spoke that Flus was bad, Poles had to notice dysfunction too.
-
I know who you're talking about now. Never read anything they stated that seemed like inside information. After you brought them up a yr or two ago I followed their podcast . The one guy is cool but the loudmouth didn't impress me at all.
-
It seems that by the quickness of the hire, they were set when they did the virtual meeting. It was just a matter of satisfying the Rooney rule and boom, Johnson hired.
-
I think he is a good hire if it happens. I like aggressive coaches. I wonder if they're any players that played for him available in free agency? Do you think he would consider Tom Brown as a assistant coach? Not OC but QB coach, he was doing fine with Caleb until he was made to be HC.
-
Is there anyone on the team that brings Olin Kreutz toughness and leadership? I think on defense Brisker is that type but was injured most of the year. Now that Byard has established himself, I expect him to step up . Just not sure on offense. Some of that needs to be Caleb but we need an assho*e on the line to hold accountable. Hopefully a new guy can take that role.

Ask your insiders what really happened. It has been reported by many sources, Warren wouldn't let Harbaugh come in for an interview, the rest is conjecture. Unless Poles or the bears come out and say who was responsible, no one knows for sure. I have an opinion just like you.
-
It has been clearly stated when Poles became GM, he didn't have a choice to pick the HC. . Last year he wasn't allowed to talk to Harbaugh and sure he wasn't allowed to fire Flus. So yesterday's decisions has nothing to do with today. They had focus on who they wanted and the first time he became available, they got him. All the interviews was clearly for insight on the state of their team. None of this is standard behavior for the Bears.

The great Roquin Smith had 3 solo Ts and 8 total. No other stat line. Sounds like a Edmunds stat line.
-
This is a good sign for our future. Potentially we have the best QB in our division. Minnesota GB and Detroit all exposed their QBs. If Caleb can get rid of the ball quicker, he should rise to the top.
-
Actually I'm not sure who you want now. We both wanted Vrabel, gone. I'm okay with Johnson as next in line, was thinking you had to many questions about him? Otherwise I would be happy with Brady or Monken. Semi okay with McCarthy.

The TOs cost them points. -
That's why I think with the right coaching hire, we can contend for the playoffs. Look at how many playoff teams we had close losses to. Washington, Texans, Minnesota, GB, Detroit. We beat the Rams. We are close, with an ascending QB, weapons, cap space and draft picks.

Interesting Article and Stats DT Carter vs Dexter
Stinger226 replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
Carter is a talent and would have been a nice addition that may or may not have played as well here.in Philly he had a great DL along side of him. With all the problems with our OL, what would people be saying if we didn't draft Wright? At some point we needed to take OL and this is where Poles decided to do it. He ended up the 5 th ranked RT in the league last year. He will be an All pro one day. -
Agreed, lots of good choices for coach. That will also make those available for OC and DC hires after they don't get jobs. In fandom eyes Johnson appears the prize. Along with some, he still has to prove his leadership ability but is worth that risk. McCarthy is more qualified than I want to admit, when people use stats to make cases for candidates, his are very good. Next to them, I like Monken and Brady.

What I like about Johnson is his reliance on the running game to set up the passing game. Balance is a good place to be in the NFL. -
They are probably several on the Bears list that would end up being great coaches but if the bears don't take the experience coaches or Ben Johnson they are going to get hammered in the media for taking chances on an unknown. Vrabel, Johnson, Carroll and even McCarthy carries at least logical choices for the job. A Eddie George or David Shaw hire would bring the bo birds out.

Like you said, lots of rumors and hard to sort out the truth but things seem to be aligning for the Bears and the Johnson rumor.
