I went back and watched every game on a condensed version since my NFL pass is still into effect. A few observations: We easily could have won more games. Cohen sure does stick out with his limited play set. There were very few plays where Howard made players miss, most were big holes for him. ( he did run over many) Hicks and Mack are total beasts. R, Smith was very noticable and Floyd looked good at the end of the season. The MT- A. Robinson connection was much better at the end of the season. MT had some great games and looked bad in several. Injury is the only thing holding us back from making a SB game. 16 game Bear highlights got me hyped.

If Longs stays healthy, I think they may redo his contract again for another year, but it is really hard to know how the brass is going to react to contracts after we win the SB. (dreamscape)

Because HH is here now, I always wonder if he thinks a player is worth obtaining because he can coach him. He is athletic and has good size, so maybe some teams arent good at development, like we use to be. I always wonder about how the Saints and Patriots had Akeim Hicks on their rosters and didnt find it a good idea to develop him. I want to thank them for being Bear like at the time.

Do you really want to tell your opponent that a main part of your offensive strategy for the game is going to be out, or leave it up in the air? I would be criticizing them for telling them before the game. Making the defense at the start of game to make adjustments would seem to be a little smarter, or just be honest and put us at a disadvantage? You made it clear what your choice would be.

I think with HH here as Oline coach, their may be a better chance of hitting on a player to fulfill his potential.

There wasnt any cloak and dagger, he had the injury during our playoff week, it was not the focus of activity at the time. Reporters made a big deal out of it, not the Bears. He was asked about it, and it is the only reason Nagy brought it up, otherwise it is just normal business going on this time of year. No matter how many questions a person has about it, I think Nagy and Pace are transparent and its only a question is suspicious peoples minds.
-
I agree with your projections, it is normal progression in this offense that will push his numbers to a high level.

Thats awesome, never seen that. The thing we under estimate the most about this team is ( I will call) the brotherhood they have going. This, club dub, end zone celebrations and big fat guys scoring TDs. The togetherness on this team is awesome .

The more darts we have to throw at the board, the better chance we have at improving our depth.

I think the most encouraging aspect of MTs progression is he has good teachers around him. Over the last 10 years did we ever think we had coaches in place to develop a QB? I think Pace has assembled a coaching team that can actually develop a QB. PLUS MT has talent, a good combo.

If they were trying to cover him not playing in the playoff game, they would have to just not mention it going forward. They didnt need to say anything, no reason to make a story out of it.

I dont get it? My fantasy was being raped by 29 virgins, but everybody is different. Green Bay?

To have a dominate defense you need a lot of good players. The 2 best are Hicks and Mack (for now) but Jackson, Fuller, Trevathan, Smith, Goldman, are stars in their own right. Floyd and Prince are good players. We have a perfect blend of potential great players. I see Smith and Floyd becoming stars. HaHa may have the best season in the back 5, he is playing for a contract. I would say Skrine is the weakness, but not sure he will be. We will once again dominate on D and lead the league in TOs. And we will have to give the O some credit for keeping the D off the field, a team effort.

It is hard to imagine the defense being better, but I do not see much of a decline barring injuries. I think Mack after a full year on the team being better at least statistically. I think R. Smith will take a big leap forward, with several players advancing. Pagano is more of an aggressive coach than Fangio. I think we may give up a few more big plays because of it but also have more sacks and TOs. Our offense is where we become much better. Instead of 24 TDs I see MT getting around 30 and the running game will be much more consistent. Nagy has more toys to play with now which will result in more 20+ plays.. Patterson along with a better Miller and Robinson, our offense will take off. I find it hard to believe our Kicking situation will be worst. All of this results in a trip to the SB. Nagy will take off in his second season as a coach with all of these weapons and toys.

I think we are set up to go to the SB this year. With the upgrade of talent in starters and backups , we can handle a few injuries but not MT. Defense: With the addition of HaHa and Skrine we have 2 capable players. I think HaHa takes a step forward and has several quality plays that Amos didnt have. Skrine lacks some of Callahan's talent but is 16 games of a a 5 better than 12 games of a 6 (value). Nichols, Smith, Floyd are all taking a step forward, with only Prince the potential of regressing because of his age? (maybe not) I think Tolliver, Shelley, Bush all add depth. If Jackson would get hurt, I think HaHa slides over and Bush fills in just fine. Plenty of depth at DL with RRH, Ballard and Williams to handle some injury games. Offense: We have depth at WR, TE, and RB now to handle any injury situation. The only problem if MT misses more than a couple of games, it could kill the SB year. Hopefully the OL stays intact, that would change things also. We are set if our IOL gets hurt but thin at OT but Coward should be ready to go with working with HH.

no way you can compare him to White. If he doesnt step up, he will be in the conversation. You can never figure injuries in the formula but it does have an affect on it. I see him getting 40-503 and 4 TDs this year. Should he do better as a 2nd round pick, yes but I think he will shine in 2020 when we cut Burton due to cap space.

For me a breakout player is one that takes a giant step forward. Miller, Nichols, Floyd all can take a step forward at the same time. for me I think R. Smith goes from being very good and a dominate defensive player on a top rated defense in the league. Becomes an all pro, will that make him a breakout player over last year? If all of these names take a step forward and we are arguing about who deserves the title, we're going to be in the SB.Of course the one player that has to take a step forward is MT. Without his progress, were only a 10-6 or 11-5 team. If he takes a leap forward were 12-4 and on the way to the SB.

Different players progress at at different rates. Shaheen being from a small school and having some injuries along the way is still a work in progress. This is the year he has to show value or lack their of. I dont think he is a bust yet. Being a 2nd round pick, we expected instant success. He size and athleticism hasnt changed just his progression. I think they are bringing Sowell in the TE group is just an option for a true blocking TE. Shaheen because of a lack of playing time, just isnt their yet. I think a UDFA TE becoming our 3rd or 4th TE may be a stretch. I think they are just covering their bases to have what they need at the start of the season.

Bradley Sowell is now a TE ( must mean Coward is looking good to be our swing tackle.) Taquan Mizzell is now a WR. good luck with that.

I think what Nagy wants is all of his RBs to make plays no mater on many reps they get. I think Davis starts as leader in carries but is David M. is special he will quickly take the lead. Cohen has his place already laid out. He had 87 his first year and 99 last year. He will have between 80 and a 100 coming this year. Last year we had 468 rushing plays out of total offensive plays of 1013. As the offense progresses this year out play total is going to go up. say 1100 to 1200, so their will be more rushing plays to go around ,500? So all will get their time plus the specialty plays. I think MT has less carries as we will have less need of him to make rushing plays with a better offense. 44 last year, cut down to 25.

Braunecker is a fringe player that is an important ST player. He can play some snaps and have backup value.

Their is a lot of national personalities thinking it is a circus. They say to find a Vet that is out there or gets cut. Last year as you said they went out and got a vet with the 3rd best percentage in the league. They gave him a good contract thinking he was on the upswing to be consistent. That didnt work out. i dont care how going over every kicker available looks bad but they are checking out every scenario to figure it out. There is no clear right plan to find a kicker. Just try, Robbie is out. SF is keeping him and trading a higher draft pick to pay a kicker 5 mil isnt a good plan either. Just let it play out and hope they find a good one.

The Bears signed a ILB Kevin Pierre-Lewis. He has ties to new ILB coach Mark DeLeone. He played for the Jets last year. He played under DeLeone in 2017. 6'1 236 lbs. had a 4.51 40 at his draft class. My question, would they leave him on the roster and cut someone like Nick Kwiatkoski or Joel IGGY ? As they look for special team players, I see them keeping 8 LBs . 4 in and 4 O. Curious why they make this move other than for ST type of situation.

I have seen a lot of people (nationally) think this is a joke the way Pace is handling the kicking circus. They say just go out and get a vet that is cut or has been let go. Last year Pace signed a vet that had the third best percentage in the NFL, that didnt work out. I applaud him doing what ever it takes to try to find a kicker. There is no correct policy to find a kicker, roll the dice.
