I think with more speed at ILB with Smith and later with Iggy that they will figure in the pass rush. Iggy is a Smith light and could eventually be as productive. The more I read about both of them the more you think they could be huge for the defense. I think we are in a 4-2-5 a lot. If anyone goes down, it will be lost time for Floyd or Trevanthan . If we have more speed in LBers it will be huge for our defense to defend and get a pass rush out of the front 4. With , Hicks-Goldman-(Bullard-RHH)-Floyd or Lynch. I think the overall defense gets better. Also we have to look at the defense being better by playing together for another year. If we have many starters out with injury at the same time again, it will affect the overall result but with better depth, it should help.

I was listening to a podcast and heard that HH made the statement that Daniels is the best center prospect he has ever seen. So I would say that means , Whitehair will be the LG.
-
Cliff Avril just got released from Sea. Injured last year, but if his health checks out, at 30 could give a prove it contract and add another body to the mix.

I am a Pace supporter but he has made mistakes along the way. i think he is learning on the run. The first year he did not have his people in place in time to draft, since then he is getting better every year. He has hit a few and screwed the pouch on many but he signs them to short term deals that he can get out of the next year if he doesnt work out. Also the last two years , we have led the league in players going on IR. I cant really blame him for the lack of talent on the field because their in the whirlpool tank. It is always easy to judge a draft after it has failed, but picking the hits and misses before tells the true story of how smart you may be at player evaluation. If he doesnt have a history of injuries in college, becoming injured in the pros, is not really on the GM. He finally got his coach brought in a ton of good coaches. He is building the type of personal department that lasts for a decade with teams. This is the year it starts to show. Also the team was in terrible condition when he took over as far as personal. Also Fox threw his two cents in all the time that affected his job.

The problem is to have draft value, it depends on where you draft him. MIke McG in the second , you would be considered very smart. I hope he does well, but I think this will be the last time we pick that low for quite awhile and they wanted a blue chip playmaker. Mike McG would have started this year as an upgrade over Massie, but he will take a few years to get stronger and learn the NFL. I think they took a play maker in Smith that will be the leader of our D for years to come will have many pro bowls and will make everyone around him better. We have two ILB starters that neither one played a full year. Trevathan has missed 11 games in two years, so I think it was definitely a need position after pass rush and OL. I think it was about having an impact if the first few years, and Mike McG will be a starter for a long time, but will never impact the OL like a Nelson would have. They made the best choice to make the team better.

When I say BPA, none of the QBs were worthy of a top 10 pick. They were all over drafted and that will prove out. If Barkley was there, I wouldnt have liked it but he would be a upgrade over Howard. I suspect if he was there, they would have got a kings ransom to trade back, so they wouldnt have ended up with him anyways. I think McGlinchey ends up being a good starter, but I do not see many pro bowls in his future, so even though it would have be a upgrade over Massie, he was not a good value at 8. The problem in this years draft is Nelson was the only one worthy of a top 10 pick. Someone along the way will play above his picked spot and be real good on the OL, but I do not think McG would be one of them.
-
That is true, but if you were a GM,. you would try to get a player that fits what your doing and put him in the best place to succeed. There are so many variables involved in the process of having a draftee be successful its very difficult, that is why the NFL scouts and GMs are only 50/50.

His weight at the combine was 236, I think sometimes when they list weights it comes from their college bios.

Who on the roster may step forward to make the position less of a need. S- Deon Bush and D. Hall are both in need of taking a step forward to help secure a roster spot improve the position. Amos also needs to keep getting better, or this will be a position we have to address next year. NT- They will lock up Goldman, they have enough money left to offer a long term contract. Jenkins is only 28 so depth will never be a problem. They brought in Nichols and Anderson after the draft, so those are 2 that have some potential to get better. Probably no needs here at all. CB- Tolliver and Joseph both were projected as later round picks and have some upside. Mincey may develop into at least a good depth player. He has some upside. I suspect they draft Princes replacement next year. OLB- We dont know what we have in Kitts and Lynch and if Floyd can stay healthy all year.Nick K also will see time outside, so we will have to see if that move is favorable or not. We will need to address the position every year until we find enough talent to make it a strength. OT- This is the position we definitely have to address. We complain because they did not address it but if they did not have a player rated high enough to pick, just drafting a guy is kinda of dumb. We always look at need when we look at who we should draft, but if their board has a player significantly higher , that is who they should pick. Reaching for need gets GMs in trouble. I think we need one more swing OT yet , Sowell is just a backup but we still do not know how much an effect HH has on our entire OL. I doubt if Lee or Greene amount to anything but they are on the roster.Lets see what HH can do with our roster.

A problem you would have as a GM is you would draft to need, instead of the best players available. So the way the draft fell, who would you have took? Nelson was gone, the next best OG was Hernandez, or would you have drafted Mike McG? Or took Ripley/because we needed another WR. Landry or Davenport? At 8 that would have been a huge reach.

I think Pace envisions Iggy and Smith both starters in 2 years after we let often injured Trevathan go. Both will be around 6-1 240 and can run like hell.I also think because of their athleticism that they will figure in the pass rush and be successful at it. I think Smith has 4 this year.

We will have one post each year we list at the top and just put in who we like and who we do not like. We can use the Bears as the example. Like for this year I think R Smith has the best upside, and a lot liked Edmunds better, well three years later is the best to look at it and by then we get bored with it. So here is 5 players I think we suceed big in the league and 5 that will be busts from this years draft. Now someone can become a starter but not be special and consider that a bust type of player. 5 I like ; I was all over Smith before and suspect he will be have several pro bowls and will be the leader of the defense. I have to go with Miller, not just because we drafted him but he has the makeup and work ethic to succeed at this level in a special way. I think Connor Williams ends up having some pro bowl years at guard. I think Quentin Nelson is an all pro from day one. A no brainer everybody would be on board with, but would have like the Bears to have got him. I think Isaiah Oliver ends up being one of better CBs in this years draft. 5 that will bust: None of the 5 first QBs in this draft will be special, a few will start but will be more of a Cousins type that can have some moments but is not elite. Hernandez got lots of acclaim but will become a starter but not be an elite type of OG. I would say a Rickie Incognito type of career, good but not great. I think Davenport will become a starter but not be a top 10 edge rusher. It always seems to me that physical freaks lose more than they become good. Josh Jackson will be a good CB but not consider elite for CBs. Orlando Brown was taken in the 3rd round and I predict will bust in the league, have a hard time staying with a team. No desire.

Here is a good article on fixing that weakness. https://sportsmockery.com/2018/05/five-ways-chicago-can-fix-their-edge-rusher-problem/ I do not think we are in as bad as shape as it may look. We finished 7th in the league last year with Floyd hurt most of the year. McPhee beat up, Young on the DL. We have more production coming from Floyd this year.10-12 ? Aaron Lynch will make some kind of contribution 4-6? Kwiat is going to backup outside and I see him contributing 3-4. R. Smith will be figured in the pass rushing aspect 3-4. Patrick Willis first year with Fangio stats. 174 tks and 4 sacks, he had a high of 6 sacks in his third year. I think Witts if healthy can has some contribution 3-4. Goldman and Hicks will have a contribution 6-8 Bullard and RHH will make a contribution in breakout seasons 4-6. We will be just fine.

The unknown here is, does Nagy upgrade the play of White? I do not think they can count on him, but he is still a blue chip prospect that got robbed of development because of injuries. It is still possible he could be something. We have the right coaching staff in place to make that happen. Just think if he becomes 90% of what he was suppose to be, we will have the best WRs in the league, or at least top 5. The best trait for Miller I like is his desire to get the ball, he will dog fight to get that ball. I feel he may end up being one of the best WRs in the league and when they talk about a trade up, he may have been the WR we were trading up for. It is obvious to see we wanted him very bad.

If Nall is a good blocker, I can see us replacing Burton with a more usable player in our offense. I think Anderson , Joseph, and Oliver all have a chance of making the practice squad. Maybe Rotimi

I as everyone else complained that in the 4th round when they took the ILB that baffled me they didnt go edge. Armstrong and Sweat went later in the round and I thought those were much better choices. If you look closer at all of their draft profiles, there is very little difference in all three of these players. Armstrong is slower, Sweat lacks some of the burst, production for one year for both were better, but overall, not a whole lot of difference in all three and Fitts they got in round 6. I would say they did not rate the value at that spot in the draft much better and thought they could get Fitts later. Of course Fitts has durablity concerns but the others are not far behind in areas of health. If Fitts stays healthy he may have similar careers at a better value. A lot of ifs will all, but they may have choose wisely and we just do not know what the value of Joel I. will have. Time will tell.

I think that choosing who succeeds and doesnt is such a difficult thing to do no matter what information you have, that is why they are 50/50 at it. My point is they have more information to go by . We read stuff, look at tape and and make intelligent opinions but its not comparable. I always look at production, desire, and worth ethic to decide who I think will do well. I just dont have privy to the same information the experts do. I prefer a instinctive football player to a physical freak. The perfect example is Edmunds and Smith. Edumunds is a freak and if he grows with a coach should have a better career than Smith if you look at measurables but 3 things stick out to me that I am not sure Edumunds will ever have, instincts and leadership qualities. The desire to win. It is hard to determine that from our prospective. They have a better chance of reading those signs than us. I think if fans had the same information I am sure some would excel at doing a better job than some NFL personal. We are just not in the same situation as them. When people like Brady, Wilson, slip in drafts, you know the system is flawed for everybody.

I was pushing for R. Smith the whole time, so obviously I think that is a great pick, but I have to say, the more I see and read about Anthony Miller, the more I think he will be special in this offense.

I have been reading about Rotimi/edge and he has size and a quick twitch, he could surprise and hang around at least on PS. Also Have read some good things about A. Anderson/DT from Bucknell that has been added. He looks like he could stick around. As far as UD, I think Toliver-Joseph-Nall-Rotimi-Anderson all have a chance to hang around . Joseph and Rotimi have a chance to make 53. Rotimi has size, speed and quick traits that say he could be ascending. At 6-3 273 4.7 speed Bio: Three-year starter who was named Honorable Mention All-Conference USA in 2016 and 2017. Made 29 tackles (seven for loss) with 5.5 sacks as a senior. Recorded 44 tackles (10 for loss), seven sacks and two forced fumbles as a junior. Posted 36 tackles (six for loss) and 4.5 sacks in 2015. Made two starts and tallied 30 tackles (2.5 for loss) and two sacks as a true freshman after walking on. Pos: Incredibly athletic pass rusher with outstanding movement skills. Fires off the snap, plays with terrific pad level and displays good change of direction. Immediately alters his angle of attack, displays speed in pursuit and chases the action hard. Gets a lot of force going up the field and can be tough to handle. Keeps his feet moving and his hands active. Neg: Lacks natural bulk and strength. Handled at the point of attack. Gives effort defending the run but is often sealed away from the action. Analysis: Rotimi is an explosive edge rusher with growth potential and a good amount of upside. He needs to improve his playing strength and refine his game but offers possibilities as a defensive end in a four-man line.

This all starts with our new coaching staff. They all look like studs and we will have to see how that translates to the football field but the arrow is pointing up. Everything we did is contingent on Trubisky being good, the signs say he could be real good. At least we upgraded the talent around him. QB-we appear to have more competent backups this year with Daniels and Bray ( we will find out if MT goes down) RB-Howard , Cohen, Cunningham, Mizzell, Nall Howard will excel in this offense and Cohen will be a star because Nagy will use him properly. Cunningham is a good backup that could carry part of the load if Howard would go down. Mizzell is an interesting player that they could stash on PS, Nall has yet to show anything but is at least big enough to carry a load if Howard goes down. Probably a PS guy also. WR- Robinson,Gabriel, Miller, White, Bellamy,Gentry, Fowler, Brown,Ayers, Wims Robinson, Gabriel, Miller, Fowler I think are no brainers, I think White sticks and Bellamy-Gentry-Brown-Ayers all go away. Wims get stashed on the PS. Total upgrade at the position with high expectations. Fowler is a good ST guy so I think he pushes Bellamy off the roster. The wildcard here is White, everybody is writing him off but I think Nagy puts him in the position to contribute this year. I think Miller turns into a stud in the slot position. TE- Shaheen,Burton, Sims, Brown, Braunecker, Thompson This is going to be a huge part of the passing game. Burton will shine, Shaheen will take a step forward. I even think Sims gets put in a better position to succeed . Brown even may have room to stick if they only keep 5 WRs. Braunecker and Thompson look like done. OL- Leno, Massie, Sowell,Long, Kush, Morgan, Whitehair, Lee, Grasu, Daniels, Watford, Greene. We all complain about our OTs but they actually played better than we first think. Sowell is the only backup OT that probably sticks. With Whitehair, Long, Daniels we should have a stable situation this year. Longs health is a concern, but this year Morgan and Kush at least give up competent backups. Finally they can get rid of Grasu that just sucks, Watford may stick, It seems like another backup OT is needed that may keep C. Lee around a while. This offense is going to be fun to watch once it gets off and running. MT is the key but the running game will give great support to put MT in a better position to succeed . Cohen is going to be stud in this offense, and Burton will star. This offense could be top 10 if everything goes right.

seriously, your saying Fangio isnt any better at judging talent than the typical fan? I want some of what your drinking. Yes the experts are at 50/50 but they know what players fit their systems better, they interview the players, they spend time with them looking at everything about them. We read what other people say and that makes us on par with coaches and GMs. OF course they only get it right 50% of the time but they have more information than we do to make those decisions. It just shows you how hard it is to judge players and their success at the NFL level. Medicals come into play that we sometimes do not have information on. Attitudes, are difficult to tell in stories. It is not even close to being some fans are as smart. We guess right sometimes, but forget all the ones we suggest that flop.

CB Kevin Toliver from LSU, that is somebody that could stick. He was the 12th rated CB on draftcountdown website
