A couple of thoughts came to mind on the roster Does anybody think that is Grasu is up to par, his upside would put him back at C and move Whitehair out to LT? They are almost the exact same size , Leno's arms are 1 and 1/2 inches longer but I think Cody could absolutely handle the spot.

To be honest, I would be happy with either one.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2016/ Here is the list of contracts from last year. If we look at all the contracts over 7 mil per year average how many were successful? the list has 17 over 7 mil of those you would only consider 5 to be over whelming successful Vernon/DE Mack/OC Harrison/DT OsemeleOG Jenkins/CB another 3 you would say was worth it Brooks/OG McLeod/FS Irvin/OLB out of 17 50% stuck out out of our free agents Freeman - huge success Trevathan- jury still out Hicks- huge success Sitton-huge success Massie- average value those are the players over 5 mil I would have to judge the way Pace is doing this is working

I can see where Thomas may end up being a Justin Smith type but from day 1, Allen will be a good player. His medicals are mute and we have had two meetings with him. If we get 8-10 sacks a year from Allen that makes him valuable enough to solidify the front 7.

Unless we move down in the draft and grab OJ Howard, Miller will be here this year.

We missed out on the top 3 CBs, Gilmore was never coming here when you compete with NE you will lose every time. I read where we offered the same money for Bouye and one extra year but A.J. choose Jags because of the weather and no income tax in Florida, ouch. Ryan was a good CB but not a shut down corner so I did not see us giving him big money to chase, plus Tenn is a better team right now. So , we did not add any stars but maybe we add a couple of Akeem Hicks type to this team. Sims got over paid but we absolutely need a blocking TE, I see us doing more 2 TE sets to help the running game and need someone like him. We also will be drafting one,so I think this TE spot will be solid but not spectacular. We added two WRs and lost Ashton , I think he was leaving no matter what , so hopefully one of these two Wheaton or Wright play well. Compton is just veteran depth. I would say we may draft a OT but not high so we will be seeing the same OTs as last year. The only other way to upgrade will be a Sitton situation where a older vet gets cut. Glennon is a necessary evil, no sure things in draft and no other FAgents worth grabbing. I think the Bears are taking a lot of heat for competing against themselves but dont buy that. When your negotiating, you dont know what the other teams are offering so when you make your final offer, if you want the player bad enough, you over pay. We will draft a prospect but do not see it being in the first 2 rounds. Maybe Peterman, Webb, or a Chad Kelly -Jerod Evans fall into place. We added a CB and S of which is an upgrade to our team but still do not have that difference maker, I think we add a S and CB and hope some of our draftees develop into that player. I think in FAgency we still bring in a DL guy more to back up Goldman at NT more than a high pay guy. We may still be adding another safety , someone like Butler or Jaruis Byrd, more for depth than as a starter. So in the draft I think all of this points to us taking Allen with the first pick. The best case senario would be to trade back and that is still a possibility because of the need for QBs. Jets pick 6th and have an extra 3rd rounder, so we would have to get their second and a third to make that trade viable. Cleveland is loaded, so if they do not get Jimmy G, trading up from 12 is a stong possibity. Maybe NOs wants to add a top WR and have a lot of picks now. So lets say we trade back with Cleveland and get there 12, 2nd, 3rd and a fitth. I used Draft countdowns 300 player rating to view who would be there 1 (12) here we have a choice of best LT that would be starter but not an all pro type. Roberson or Bolles could be this pick. 2a budda Baker/FS a quality football player. 2b Gareon Conley/CB a potential shutdown CB. 3a Zay Jones/WR a potential #! 3b Brad Kaaya/QB our prospect we have given attention to 4a Tanoh Kpassagnon/5T a huge man 4b Jaleen Johnson/DT a good player at this spot 5a George Kittle/TE a good blocker with catch ablitity 5b Ejuan Price/Edge a short but a McPhee type of player 7 Zane Gonzalez/K we will bring in some new blood

I think your right, the only thing I would like is the NT backup upgrade. Sutton is not really that person.
-
I think in the end, he would be the #2 CB on the team, we still do not have that shutdown corner, but its an upgrade over last year. You are right, you bring enough players in , you hope one shines, I still think we draft one high.
-
I think the fact they havent addressed the DL that Allen will be the pick. I think they draft a TE and Sims gets all his money the first year, so we could cut him in year 2 with only a 666 thousand cap hit. Also we needed a blocking TE, so this is not a wasted pickup. I think we still draft a FS. Demps is just a year or two guy,not a long range answer. the draft will net us a QB prospect TE prospect OT prospect WR prospect CB prospect FS prospect DL with the first pick, Allen

Bears agreed to one-year deal with WR Kendall Wright
Stinger226 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
We will draft a guy also, so if healthy, this may be a decent group. The key will be White, if he stays healthy and shows improvement, could be very good. -
If Robinson-Harris is ready to go,I would have to say Houston is probably gone. Royal is gone. I would have to say Sutton and Feguson are probably gone.
-
I would have to say Porter might be gone, he only has 600 thousand dead money if cut. You figure we will add at least one draftee, so the new guys are better than what we had last year. LeBlanc and Cahahan will man the slot corner spot. Cooper, Prince A, Hall, and Fuller. Fuller costs 3 mil in dead space and they may want to give him one more chance.
-
He led the Cardinals in ints and PDs. He at least adds a shot of more turnovers and being reunited with Fangio from when he was drafted, that may blend well for us.
-
At the combine, Arians remarked he would like to keep him, so that bodes for something. It is always about money.

I think it is clear Pace is commited to building through the draft and is bringing people in the get us through the next couple of years while our drafted players develop. His first year here , was not great, he still did not have his draft people in place, his crew was left over from the last regime. His second year was great in the draft. Besides Whitehair, Howard, Floyd, we still have some upside players still developing. Bullard, Bush, Hall,Kwaitoski ,Robinson-Harris,Houston-Carson. He brought in LeBlanc who appears to be able to play. Truth be told, several of those players still have the opportunity to be starters and some may be stars. Second year players that still have something to prove, White, Amos, Goldman needs to be healthy. This year we have high picks, so the legacy of Pace will be in the draft not in FAgency.

Today Darius Butler in today, would be a total upgrade He was playing safety his last 4 games and have stated that is where he wants to play. PPF has his coverage skills as the 4th best when playing the safety position. We are seeing older guys coming in which I believe is just a stop gap while our draftees develop.
-
If we look at last year, we signed one larger contract Trevathan and a bunch of middles type contracts. This year our one major sign was Glennon, and now back to improving the roster while being fiscally responsible.
-
Marcus Cooper isnt a household name but his stats last year was very good In 2016, Cooper appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals recorded 69 tackles, four interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown and 11 pass defenses. He wasnt a starter but had 4 int and 11 PDs. Clearly better than anyone we had on the field last year. Arz is known to have good DBs and guess who led the team in ints? Cooper He was a pro bowl alternate last year. He is 6'2" 192 Here is stats as a draftee At Rutgers' pro day, Cooper ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 and 4.46 seconds. He had a 39 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-9 broad jump. He ran the short shuttle in 4.42 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.89 seconds. He performed 20 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Tom Compton is being signed as a swing OT, he has played on both sides, clearly not being signed to start but to add depth.
-
Read where we're close to signing tom Compton/OT formally from Atlanta and Marcus Cooper/CB from Arizona
-
We're disagreeing about a woulda , coulda, he wasn't here so you might as well pretend he would have led the league in rushing.
-
Actually we have two new WRs, I forgot we signed Rueben Randle, I dont think we should not think he could be a #3 type WR on this team.
-
If we protect the pocket, he will do well, if he gets pressure all the time, not so much.
-
I am not sure he rates players according to what we think he should be doing. Last year we got Sitton that was a huge upgrade, it wasnt planned but turned out well for us. The problem is we dont know who their after, they may be making offers but that doesnt mean they want to come here. Lets face it, Chicago is not a destination place for Free agents wtihout huge money on top.
-
He didnt want to be here, it was his choice, not what we offered. I also read Minn offered a better long term deal that we did, but he choose the one year deal.
-
This is not realistic according to what I see in print but this is what I got. Draftcountdown (Scott Wright) just came out with his top 300 draft list. So I did a draft with no trades and took absolutely the BPA in each round according to the list. Your score is: 14568 (GRADE: A+) Your Picks: Round 1 Pick 3: Myles Garrett, DE/OLB, Texas A&M (A+) Round 2 Pick 4: David Njoku, TE, Miami (Fla.) (A) Round 3 Pick 3: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame (A+) Round 4 Pick 4: JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Southern California (A+) Round 4 Pick 10: Eddie Jackson, SS, Alabama (A+) Round 5 Pick 3: Damontae Kazee, CB, San Diego State (A) Round 7 Pick 3: Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona State (A) Garrett wont be there, and probably not Kizer but this was a fun draft and it scored very high.
