A backup but we need the depth somewhere. Hope that lock down Hicks, would make for a good offseason.
-
Finally got one deal done, lets hope for Hicks and Gresham.
-
I think most of what we sign from here out is Porter types that look for a prove it deal to get a contract like Porter received this year. Hopefully we get lucky and some of those surface.
-
We still have some decent names out there to sign but the reality is there still hunting for good money. I think Hicks, Freeman, and Gersham leave town without contracts. I dont think going forward we will be over paying for FAs. We knew they were after Tev but Massie was a surprise pick. He is average but improves our OL never the less. DL- names left to chase Hicks Fairly Crick Knighton Jerkins ( heard that deal is not done yet) OLB Upshaw Coples Galette Neal S Weddles Burton Moore R Johnson Thurmond ILB SMC ( I hope not) Freeman Brown Davis Laurinaitis Carter CB Robinson Moore Boykin Hayward Sensabaugh TE Gersham Miller Cook Chandler Housler Cumberland The reality of FA is we may not get who we want

I seen were Zack Brown and Demario Davis have been contacted for visits.

Anybody still out there now are looking for money or they would have signed already. I think we are probably offering a 3 year 10 mil contract to someone and there all looking for 5 mil a year. I dont think we are going to throw money at any remaining FAs, it bargin shopping at our price. I see the chance some of those names slipping out of town. If we go by last year, one player got paid, two got decent money and the rest were low end. We already have spent those contracts. I suspect with more money available we may have a few more left. It would be nice to sign Hicks and Freeman but odds are they leave town without contracts looking for more money.

If we fill most of our needs in FA, there is a real possibility for us to go with edge rusher, but it wont be Floyd. I prefer Shaq Lawson if we do that but Noah Spence is rated high at OLB. Mort than likely it will be a choice between Robinson/DT or Jared Reed his teammate at Ala. I think Ragland is still in play if we dont bring in another ILB. At that point in the draft, I think Ramsey, Buckner, Bosa and Jack are all gone, so if we go defense, those are the names we will choose from. The possibility exists we draft a OT at that spot.

I heard the interview with former packer James Jones baiting him and things were taken out of context. If you can find it listen to it, was not out of line with comments.
-
That report is not true, he left town without a deal.
-
Twitter is quite the drama scene. So much shit floating around these days.
-
I heard a recording of the conversation and James Jones (former Packer ) was baiting him, never was said in the context as stated. Listen to the interview, no problem with Trev

I suspect we resign Miller to a 3 year 5.75 deal with 1.5 guaranteed. Which would essentially be a one year 1.5 deal. Porter is basically a 2 year 4.25 deal, so if he fails he wont last long. If we dont sign Hicks then who? Ayers as a OLB? Fairly on a prove it deal? Knighton? maybe getting back with Fox , he will play better Jared Click- now bad stats Jarvis Jenkins- back for a rotational position.

Bears looking at wideouts, including Kearse

I think they will add any position, if they can get a team friendly deal. -
I think Jack,Buckner, Ramsey, will all be gone. So our choices ( if we go defense) will be Robinson, Spence, Ragland. the next group of D players. I think Ragland has the most impact at that point. They could take a OT if they dont think they have the valve at pick 11.
-
I dont like the names either, but Darron Lee will never make it to our spot in the 2nd round
-
I think we sign a DE, S, and CB yet. I suspect Hicks, Burton, and Patrick Robinson. They all get brought in on team friendly deals. They are upgrades but not special. I think we upgrade the position and draft players to develop going forward. 1st round we trade back with Phil two spots and they give us a third.(they have two) 1st -Reggie Ragland/ILB a thumper that becomes the leader of our defense. 2d- Austin Johnson/DE highly productive-large and in charge. Johnson-Hicks-Goldman (huge upfront) 3rd-1 Vonn Bell/FS starts from day 1 3rd-2 Xaiver Howard/CB big play guy, 10 PDs and 5 ints senior year.

We just signed McMannis to a two year deal, I suspect for his ST play

I always had a lot of respect for Forte, but your dreaming if you think he will have better numbers than he did this year. There is a youth movement going on, a 30 year old back will be irrelevant in two years when we lobby for a playoff spot. You have to look forward, not relish old vets that are on the decline. 8 mil guaranteed. This year I think he plays well, but you want to invest the extra money for the second year because he use to be good? That is just bad football logic. If we were having a shot at playoffs next year, I would be all for it, but it will 2 maybe 3 years before we content, he will be irrelevant. People would be bitching about paying him so much for one decent year.
-
You need to read everything about the situation not just selective reads. Foxy and Pace are smart football guys, they just dont get rid of good football players unless there is a good reason. You act like, they try to get rid of people for no reason at all. When you rebuild a football team you have to get the room to buy into what you need to have a winning locker room. Bennett will hold out if we dont give him more money.Tell me how many catches he will have sitting on his coach watching the View.
-
I would agree that this coming year Forte would have performed better, but the last two years of his contract could have been a money pit. When backs fall off, it is like walking the plank. He wouldnt have been good by the time we get good. I would say we are two years away from competing for a playoff spot. He wont be productive in two years, so why make the investment in an old back.
-
He is a me guy and Foxy wants team guys. We dont get all of the locker room atmosphere information, so we only look at his production and say keep him but he wants more money and will hold out. So that would not be good to count on him and then have him sit home bitching about money.
-
I think they went hard after Jeff Allen and the money was to strong for them. Massie is average but improves our line because of Long back at guard. I would like to see the contract, bet after one year, can have an easy out if he doesnt pan out. He is not special, I would not doubt if they bring in a good guard for valve that Long could get pushed to LT. The other scenario is us drafting a LT. Leno played well for a 7th round pick but wasnt great by no means. I could still see them upgrading the OL. Another thought is maybe bringing back Mongomery for a year if Grassu isnt quite ready yet.
-
The deal is he is entering his prime, scheme fit, and will not be very expensive. Being he did not sign with anyone yesterday tells me he expected more money and didnt get it. Now he is trying to find the best fit. I would say he signs for 3 year/9 mil area with like 3 mil guaranteed . He is reasonable with upside and if he doesnt pan out can get out of it in one or two years.
-
I think at this stage were done giving good contracts, no way he would play here for 1.5 or 2.0 on a one or two year deal.
-
The main reason for all of this is they think Langsford will be real good and want to give him the ball more. He has something Forte doesnt have anymore speed. If Matt would stay then it would fall in the same pattern as last year.
