That is part of my point he gained more experience in his first year than Goff did in his first year.
-
By the stats he had in his first year. Last year MT had 2193 yards- 7 tds-7 int. Ran for 248 yards and 2 tds. (in 2016 Jared Goff 1093 yards-5 tds-7 ints ran for 16 yards and 1 td)

Last year LA had a high drafted QB, a good defense(ranked 12th) They added a high profile offensive mind in Sean McVay. They added John Sullivan and Andrew Whitworth on the Oline. They added Robert Woods,/WR in FA, and drafted Cooper Kupp/WR, Josh Reynolds/WR, Gerald Everett/TE in the draft. They had left over from a 4-12 season, Todd Gurley and Travon Austin. They added Sammy Watkins by trade and ended up being the the tenth ranked offense in the league last year. Goff had 3804 yards, 28 TDs, 7 ints. and rushed for 51 yards on on 28 carries. Gurley rushed for 1305 yards-13 tds. Receiving stats Todd Gurley 64-788-6 Cooper Kupp 62-869-5 Robert Woods 56-785-5 Sammy Watkins3959315.2678 Tyler Higbee 25-295-1 Gerald Everett 16-244-2 Tavon Austin 13-473-0 Josh Reynolds 11-104-1 2018 Bears We add Nagy and several high grade offensive coaches Fangio came back and the defense was ranked 9th in total defense Last year MT had 2193 yards- 7 tds-7 int. Ran for 248 yards and 2 tds. (in 2016 Jared Goff 1093 yards-5 tds-7 ints ran for 16 yards and 1 td) In 2016 Gurley ran for 885 yards at a 3.2 clip and 5 tds. Last year Howard ran for 1122 yards at a 4.1 clip for 9 tds. In 2016 Gurley had 43 recp. for 327 yards at a 74% catch rate. Last year Howard had 23 - 125-0 at a 72% catch rate. We completely revamped our WR corp with the additions of A. Robinson-T. Gabriel-A. Miller plus adding Trey Burton at TE. Conclusion. Nagy and his staff looks to be as good as the LA coaches of last year. They have more weapons than LA had last year plus not a player on their roster than has the potential of Tarik Cohen as a runner and WR threat. Defensively we will improve from this year with continuity in the backfield and a potential all pro ILB in Smith. I think we are going to double our win total from 5 to 10 this year even in a more difficult division. MT is ahead of Goff in his second year. Howard is not as good as Gurley receiving but could be his equal as a runner.Howard is a hard worker to be a better WR and will show up this year in his stats. I think with the addition of A Miller , we could say that our WRs overall are better than the crew the Rams had last year. We are much better with Burton-Shaheen and Sims than LA was last year at TE. Our Oline has as much potential to be better than what Rams produced last year. Rams were ranked 6th and the Bears were ranked 11th.

Here is an article that projects what the stats are going to be for the year https://www.windycitygridiron.com/2018/5/18/17368652/chicago-bears-mitchell-trubisky-leonard-floyd-allen-robinson-espn-fantasy-breakdown-nfl-2018 I think Cohen, Shaheen, and Miller's stats are on the low side. I think Tribusky's TD total is higher than projected.

I have to say, I think every draft choice makes the roster this year and also a couple of UDFAs. That keeps growing the roster and talent.
-
The defense will take another step forward and be our glue until the offense catches up. In two years our offense will be top 5 in the league and the D will be rolling along. I am always an optimist but this year seems different, can't let the Debbie downers on this site get me down and their are a few.
-
Actually I think one of the reasons we got Fangio to come here was because of Fox, he has always had good coaches in his stable. Fox had a purpose but his conservative approach does not fit will in today's NFL I think Nagy's creative mind will.

Packers have been drafting CBs and Ss in the last 4 drafts and keep drafting them, says a lot about the quality of their picks. Did not address pass rush, should make them venerable .
-
Out of the rookie mini camp we signed 3 new players. John Franklin III/WR, Jeremi Hall/OG and Matt Fleming/WR. Franklin was supposedly ran a 4.19 40 somewhere along the line.
-
I just read where there are 58 players at rookie mini camp. The more bodies the better, that is how you find diamonds in the rough. With that many I would say they sign a couple of try out players to regular camp.

The point is, he does have a special skill set, you notice most people disagree with you, but it is best to make these statements now because when the season starts, you will be silenced by the results. He is not a league leading RB type, Howard is the best RB on the team, but he is a special player that will be used as a weapon in Nagy's offense. His size limits his being used as a 3 down back but on a limited basis, he will preform well. Come back to this subject after the 5 or 6th game so we can see you try to defend your opinion.
-
May I suggest you watch game film. If you use stats to compare all players then that would mean that they all would have the same results or play the same. Take a moment and watch film on all the players you suggest are better. You will notice a difference, football intelligence can not be measured in stats. He is a special player, this year you will notice a offense that uses his talent much differently.
-
What makes him unique is his short area quickness, not all stats prove how a person plays. He put on 10lbs this winter and his stength for a small guy is amazing. You do not have to believe anything I say, but the proof will be in his use in our offense. You can compare Gabriel because of his speed and size but is not even close in strength.
-
actually Cohen in Nagy's offense is going to be used more and a lot more productive. There is no one on the roster that has a similar skill set.
-
I was being sarcastic because everybody has seemed to jump on his bandwagon over his highlight film. He looks like he might be a player than can make the roster, but someone suggested(not AZ) that in one year we trade Howard as Nall takes over the main carrier role. I hope he does very well and makes it on the roster and takes over the spot Burton has. Has more player ability at the FB spot. He wasn't drafted, does not have great speed, didn't even have the lead role on his college team, just trying to temper my enthusiasm.
-
I think we need to take a step back before we put him in the hall of fame. He went undrafted and looks like a player on tape but training camp will answer a lot of questions.
-
He looks good in his highlight films but I think everybody does. l like him but more as a power runner. I think the only way he sticks if he can take over the fullback position. That would be predicated on him being a good blocker of which I do not know. He could make the practice squad easily.
-
Also we do not know what they think of the safety depth of the Ss we have on the roster. D. Hall, Houston-Carson, and Deon Bush. They may see one or all are ready to take a step forward. We assume they do not matter, but they may be in play.

I think if HH deems him the OC of the future they will start him there right now and put up with the shortcomings of a rookie. They did that with Whitehair and excelled. I think they make their decision and stick with it even with rookie learning pains. If he has a good NT, they will just give him help in those situations. Anyway they line it up, it will be the best situation. The key will be the continued health of Long but this year we have available Kush and Morgan but do not forget Watford. I think Kush ends up being the backup at OC also so we do not have shifting around this year in the middle. Massie and Leno have played above average even though the perception is they have been bad. The key is they have also been very healthy. Massie will need to be replaced next year but we also should consider he plays better under HH and they keep him around a few more years as we develop a rookie drafted next year. He is still only 28. The one thing we do not know is how much better our existing players play better with the addition of HH. If they all take one step forward, it will make for a very good OL even with the same OTs. The one thing we still need is a swing OT for depth, of which we can still find with later cuts by other teams in the training camp process.

I think with more speed at ILB with Smith and later with Iggy that they will figure in the pass rush. Iggy is a Smith light and could eventually be as productive. The more I read about both of them the more you think they could be huge for the defense. I think we are in a 4-2-5 a lot. If anyone goes down, it will be lost time for Floyd or Trevanthan . If we have more speed in LBers it will be huge for our defense to defend and get a pass rush out of the front 4. With , Hicks-Goldman-(Bullard-RHH)-Floyd or Lynch. I think the overall defense gets better. Also we have to look at the defense being better by playing together for another year. If we have many starters out with injury at the same time again, it will affect the overall result but with better depth, it should help.

I was listening to a podcast and heard that HH made the statement that Daniels is the best center prospect he has ever seen. So I would say that means , Whitehair will be the LG.
-
Cliff Avril just got released from Sea. Injured last year, but if his health checks out, at 30 could give a prove it contract and add another body to the mix.

I am a Pace supporter but he has made mistakes along the way. i think he is learning on the run. The first year he did not have his people in place in time to draft, since then he is getting better every year. He has hit a few and screwed the pouch on many but he signs them to short term deals that he can get out of the next year if he doesnt work out. Also the last two years , we have led the league in players going on IR. I cant really blame him for the lack of talent on the field because their in the whirlpool tank. It is always easy to judge a draft after it has failed, but picking the hits and misses before tells the true story of how smart you may be at player evaluation. If he doesnt have a history of injuries in college, becoming injured in the pros, is not really on the GM. He finally got his coach brought in a ton of good coaches. He is building the type of personal department that lasts for a decade with teams. This is the year it starts to show. Also the team was in terrible condition when he took over as far as personal. Also Fox threw his two cents in all the time that affected his job.
-
The problem is to have draft value, it depends on where you draft him. MIke McG in the second , you would be considered very smart. I hope he does well, but I think this will be the last time we pick that low for quite awhile and they wanted a blue chip playmaker. Mike McG would have started this year as an upgrade over Massie, but he will take a few years to get stronger and learn the NFL. I think they took a play maker in Smith that will be the leader of our D for years to come will have many pro bowls and will make everyone around him better. We have two ILB starters that neither one played a full year. Trevathan has missed 11 games in two years, so I think it was definitely a need position after pass rush and OL. I think it was about having an impact if the first few years, and Mike McG will be a starter for a long time, but will never impact the OL like a Nelson would have. They made the best choice to make the team better.

When I say BPA, none of the QBs were worthy of a top 10 pick. They were all over drafted and that will prove out. If Barkley was there, I wouldnt have liked it but he would be a upgrade over Howard. I suspect if he was there, they would have got a kings ransom to trade back, so they wouldnt have ended up with him anyways. I think McGlinchey ends up being a good starter, but I do not see many pro bowls in his future, so even though it would have be a upgrade over Massie, he was not a good value at 8. The problem in this years draft is Nelson was the only one worthy of a top 10 pick. Someone along the way will play above his picked spot and be real good on the OL, but I do not think McG would be one of them.
