Week 12 Official Game Thread - for the 3 people watching
Stinger226 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
Lots of things to look at but that returned punt mistake was the play that sealed it for us. We are just not good enough to overcome a handful of flubs. Om the positive side CW has greatness on the horizon and didnt see anyone laying down. -

We come back and in overtime get the coinflip. We have momentium and Caleb holds the ball to long and takes a sack, gets us in a hole we cant climb out of. This is what rookie QBs do shows greatness and ends the game with 2 mistakes. -

To many small mistakes to make up for but cant deny the fight in team. -
As this point Im grabbing anything positive I can. Next week may be something different.

I am trying to predict what Poles is going to do, I can pretend Shanahan gets fired and Poles grabs him and we live happly ever after but that is fantasy at this point.. Kingsbury was fired in 2022, and only could land a adiviory job at USC in 2023. Clearly an offensive mind but what am I missing? Johnson will be the hot name, did well with oddense but what about his HC presence? He had job offers last year but stayed with Lions. That tells me he may not think he is ready to be a HC yet. Nagy was a hot topic the yr he took the HC job and it failed. Unless you get a proven guy like Belichick or Vrabel, there is risk to any hire that after 2 yrs underperformed. Its a crap shoot.

I refer to continuity as to keep Caleb in the same offense with familar faces instead of punching a ticket for a new offense and different coach to get comfortable with.
-
The only way Flus comes back is if he goes 10-7 IMO. Im not sure if 9 wins even gets him a ticket back. Reality: Tom Brown makes the offense better and CW looks good over the rest of the year. I think Poles figures he can keep continuity Brown HC-Williams DC. A new coach would mean a start over and another coach and system that would impede Caleb's growth. Other choices are a couple former HCs with Belichick and Vrabel. Belichick brings a great resume but will want control of personal and I dont see Poles wanting to give that up. There are a bunch of offensive minded coaches available that have never been a HC and would have to prove themselfves. Kingsbury brings a failed HC job but has a good offensive mind. Will he do better this time? I like the thought of Jon Gruden. A big name that got kicked out of the NFL over an email wordage. He has gotten the ok to return to the league this year and will be happy to take whatever power a GM would give him. He's got a good head for offense and knows how to run a team.

I have been off the Flus wagon for several weeks now and Im not lobbing to bring him back. Im one of the biggest dreamers in the world but Im trying to give a realistic proposal of what might happen. Who is greatness? They didnt hire Harbaugh so talking about that is a waste of time. As of now the top rookie coach is Quinn, a former fired defensive head coach . Harbaugh may be second on that list. Last years rookie HC of the year was DeMarco Ryans, a former DC. Bill Belichick is the only (greatness ) out there and will want control of personal and Poles wont be hiring him. The hotest name is Brain Flores a DC. Former HC that sued the team and NFL, reaaly doubt George would hire him. (greatness?) Mike Vrabel is a former defensive HC that had several good yrs but got fired. Good coach but probably not heading for greatness. They're several OCs available but have no idea how well they may do. Our last hire was an offensive minded coach that was at the top of most lists in 2017. I personally think Gruden would be a good hire, he still needs to prove greatness in his career. Tell me who they are going to hire to bring us greatness?
-
What if Tom Brown fixes the offense and CW takes giant steps forward. Poles fires Flus gives the job to Brown and makes Williams the DC (which he already is) and let him run the defense. We win 2-3 games end up with the same record as last yr. We keep continuity.
-
He has in many cases shown his inability to make the right decisions. What bothers me more than in game stuff has been his choices of coaches he is responable of bringing in. Poles has shown a lot of trust in him to sign off on these picks but Poles is a smart man and has to see his flaes. Loyalty is a good trait but we are ready to take the next step that will leave Flus behind.

Where did I write I am supporting Flus to come back? He lost me a few weeks ago. I have said I think if he wins more games than he loses, Poles may bring him back. I have been talking about Gruden. I heard Cleveland may let their coach go and several people have said he is a good coach. I dont know enough about to form an opinion. -
This yr SF was rated to go to the SB, they are beatable. If Caleb is who we thought he was, they will be afraid to play us.

Expose the person, trying to play nice doesnt accomplish anything. Exposing them probaby is ends up meaning nothing but at least if someone else knows . they will know not to get them in a different league. I recomended 2 people for this league only because I knew they aren't jack off. Now if this was 500 to get in the league I would understand someone just going over their skis getting in but its chump change with the entry fee in this league. -
I loved Bowers too but hindsight is a window I didnt have while the draft was going on. I would have loved us to draft Puka the year before in the 6th round but it didnt happen. We can do that all day looking back, its just wasted thinking.
-
Rooting for my team to lose and everyone look bad is shortsighted as a fan. You wanted Flus gone last year, you were right on him being bad but he wasnt. If you find joy in us losing and every everyone looking bad is your thing, good luck with that. I dont live my life that way. I supported Fields last yr, even thou I noticed his flawes, because he was our QB. I am very happy now we have Caleb and hope of a top 5 QB but I like when we win. i was at a B-GB party with 12 people/half and half fandom. As we we went up in the game, I have been programmed to think something might happen at the end of the game. I dont look it as a reward because I was right.

I look for positives, Flus isnt getting fired tommorrow, so I look for progress. Repeating every week that we need to change coaches means nothing with 7 games left. He will be gone, so I look for Caleb to be better and he was. That does not mean I am now supporting Flus. I am just a fan and I wont be picking the next coach. I would like Gruden but that is an opinion. I need to check and see who Grudens agent is, since lots of people think that is why Poles choose Flus. -
I dont know if anyone mentioned it but he got Allen before he drafted Rome. He was totally surprised when Rome was there at 9 which tells me he didnt think he could get him. It was Allen and Moore. Had he not traded for Allen and not be able to get Rome. tons of people would be complaining ( Poles didnt get any weapons to help the rookie QB). No matter what Poles does he gets judged all the time on his choices until we win. His plan was to win in 25 and 26, its a bonus for any wins we get this yr.

Everybody gets excited about the losing but developing Caleb is all that matters. Brown much better than Waldron, one step at a time. He got everybody involved, cut down on the information overload and Caleb responded. We are one more draft class away from the playoffs and if Caleb is great , we're going to have some championships in the near future. -
Poles has plus and minuses during his time here. He took over a terrible cap space and roster to get us in his 3rd yr wanting to fire everyone because we think we should have been in a playoff spot. He got rid of Fields and drafted Caleb knowing that would affect the win total. He could have keep Fields and traded back the first pick to fix the OL and add a few studs on the DL. The extra first round pick could have got a starting LT leaving Jones as a swing T (depth). With a extra second round drafted Zack Fraiser/OC. He brought in Coleman , Bates and Pryor to fill in the depth with the injuries. Kiran could have sat and got healthy and to take Jenkins spot next year. Another stud on the DL and we would have 2 or 3 more wins. Who knows who Poles will bring in is a big question mark but after 3 yrs, he has to know what he will need for his QB. First time GMs always has growing pains, but I think he's a smart guy and will get it right this time..
-
He is going to be gone at the end of the year. You realize had we won, it would be another + in Poles eyes for keeping him. Caleb played better today, Brown had a more comfortable offensive plan to fit Caleb's progress and we almost won. Clearly the players have bought back in to Flus at least for 1 game. Here is Poles X account if you would like to message him yourself to let him know your opinion. I have DM him 3 times and the only respond I got was when I gave him a cudos for keeping Flus. (my mistake) Im sure one of his his assitants runs his accout but I did get one response lat winter. Ryan Poles @RyanPolesBears
-
For now, 3 rookie QBs are playing better than him. Everything cant be blames on coaching. When he misses a WR thay/s not on any coach. What bothers me the most is the 60% accuracy .
-
So if we would win today , what will that mean for the rest of the season? Possible but not probable. Love has 10 ints on the yr, hei s not the Darling everyone thought they would get from last yr. If we can control Jacobs, under 100 yds and keep them to FGs in the red zone, we have a shot. If they limit Caleb to throw quick and quite holding the ball to long, we have a shot. 23-18 bears
-
A lot of it doesnt make sense, Im sure they all do but the OC is the one doing the game plan with Caleb.
-
We will see what Poles has for football IQ. You would have to fire him for his judgement of hiring coaches more than on the field stuff. Poles doubled down on it, so the finger gets pointed at him also, but he's not firing himself. Yes, a lot of bad choices but any coach (good ones also) make bad calls every game. The good ones make fewer. We have the advantage of hindsight. I have seen some podsters say had we keep Fields and the traded the first pick for a haul we could have loaded up on OL and DL and won more games. I dont disagree with that. I think CW was the right choice for the future but Poles is getting heat because we are 4-5.
