I read a story talking about maybe Joe Kim was our biggest addition this off season. To give credit SCS has mentioned his name many times. So I look at the improvement of his addition to KC where he worked from 2010-2012. In 2009 KC had 22 sacks. 4-12 In 2010 it rose to 39 sacks. Almost double the sack total. 10-6 In 2011 it went to 29. 7-9 In 2012 27. 2-14 As I looked further, the team as a whole had a good year in 2010 because of an improved offense. Cassel and Charles both played well. In 2011, Charles was hurt and Cassel stunk. 2012 Charles played well but Cassel just not very good. In conclusion: I see Kim as helping but think the the biggest difference on KCs success during those years was how the offense played. So he can help, but with a lousy offense he didnt show improvement as a lousy offense affects the game so much it changed the way the defense played. The good thing is we have the offense to go with an improving defense and anything we add that might help cant be a bad thing. http://www.rantsports.com/nfl/2014/04/03/c...go%20BearsGrid7

I think it is regarded as players make the most improvement from year 1 to 2. It makes sense, they get acclimated to the NFL life and develop their bodies better.
-
The board on Fanspeak seems unrealistic for positioning, but with all the sites we look at on Mock Drafts, it's worth looking at as any other.
-
How is plugging him in to Briggs spot giving up on him? Since he was drafted, he was stated to be his best position at WLB.I think Bostic is going to be a good player, just dont think it will be at MLB. Our difference is where we see him playing. Another year one of us will be saying(I told you so) and suspect that will be me.

The first link is what I would do if I were in command of our draft choices. This was with the Fanspeak draft site http://fanspeak.com/ontheclock/draft.php?d=tilnzn I addressed our defensive needs first and then random players I think contribute to our team. This group is how I see it playing out for Emery. I think Emery will trade down and this is how it played out. Traded with SF for our 1st, we got the 30th pick, 2nd,3rd and a 7th 1st-Pryor/FS- he was still there and was 2nd rated S 2nd-a-Quarles/DT-he has been linked to our teams draft 2nd-b-Trutt/DE/DT- he was still sitting there and was considered with the first round pick 3rd-a-Hyde/RB- with the extra picks start adding some offensive players 3rd-b-McGill/CB-a big CB being able to sit and learn his first year 4th-Martin/OC- we find Garzas replacement when he retires 5th-Savage/QB-a big QB Trestman can work with 6th-a-Morris/MLB-a productive player than can contribute on ST right away 6th-b-Lyerla/TE- a troubled player with great assests 7th-Janis/WR- a productive speed guy

This all got started with the availability of our potential draft able players.I am not pining for a LB was just stating the possibility of us drafting one.D.J. is a one and done player at his age. I think Bostic is the heir apparent of Briggs and Greene is not considered a MLB. I suggest the need still for a MLB and think it is could be in this draft. If we trade back and I think we will, then Mosely becomes more of a valve at a late first round pick. I want Donald, but with all his hoopla he could be gone as well as HaHa, two players most fitted in our slot.
-
If they draft a 1st round LBer he wont be the backup .Ratliff was brought back to be a starter too, but that doesnt exclude them from drafting a DT. Bostic was drafted to be Briggs replacement, he will only see MLB again if we have a rash of injuries.
-
Probably the pronto type for a safety, fun to watch.
-
Your right thats YOUR opinion, it doesnt mean anymore than anyone else on here. I am just saying names that I think Emery is considering, as I said before I think we end up trading back and then if you took Mosely as 30 that would be considered great valve. MLB is just as big a need as DT or Safety, there are less bodies there if DJ gets hurt. As least if we had to play today there are more bodies in place at the other positions. And I am not saying we are going to great at those positions. With Houston and IZZy playing at some DT snaps we would be covered at the position. When Conte comes back we have the lousy Stelth and Jennings to fill in if Conte sucks again. I think Mundy is the starting SS and does well.
-
His surgery is going to affect things, but is Conte the 2012 player or the 2013 version? I think he isnt as bad as he played last year. I think if he played better that is all better for the Bears. I hope he comes back strong. Petty talk doesnt bother me, we all nit pic at each other. We just need to move on with conflicts. Look at me and SCS are buddies now. Just kidding, but as of now were not fighting.

Interesting article on who the Bears will draft

I think shorter is an advantage with leverage. I dont think everybody Donald rated as the top DT. I put more stock in the sites that have former pro scouts. Two come to mind Our Lads and Draft countdown. They both have Nix ranked a head of Donald. I agree with you, D is a stud, but unfortunately GMs dont ask our opinion. -
I prefer Donald but dont discount the fact Mosley may also be in the picture. If Donald was gone I would prefer Pryor over dix.
-
Thats just his opinion, I think Emery does his board and their is much valve there at 14 whether Donald is there or not. No GM banks there draft on one player.

Interesting article on who the Bears will draft

We are going off of other peoples views has to the rating of players. Your saying our opinion is silly, but your opinion is ok. We are basically saying what we like and hope Emery feels the same, we have no idea what his board looks like. I am a big production guy when it comes to players and Donald is the bomb, but I dont know that Emery thinks the same way. By his two first drafts, has not followed what other people think. By the small sample size we have of his drafting, I am saying I think he probably goes a different direction that Donald.?Why? He has stated he wants to trade down and acquire more picks. That means Donald wont last until the end of first round. He wants longer and bigger players, Donald does not fit that mold. So by those statements I think he will trade back and someone like Truitt, Hageman, and even a Nix is possible, when healthy he's an oak tree.(almost impossible to move). He could go with the back end of the defense first with S or CB. That means Gilbert, Dennard, even Fuller is in play. Safeties with HaHa, Pryor, and even Ward could be the way he goes. If he trades back Fuller and Ward would still be available. I think your silly to say Donald is his only choice at 14. -
I think the possibility exists that Slausson goes to center after Garza is done. Brown to LG, not sure he has been getting better. Britton could very well play that LG spot when the switch is made. If we do that it gives a savoy vet to lead the OL. I would say we add a versatile rookie that could play OG or OT to give us the flexibility to do some of those previous mentioned items.
-
One of Lovie's faults was being loyal to bad players.(think Ashuleta)I hope he does lousy with the Bucs.
-
I think the offense will function better in a second year. The only thing that will throw a wrench in that is injuries, but Cutler's injury last year didnt really affect it as much as we thought. I think with Wilson he will have more plays than Bennett contributed last year. With our weapons we have I think it is very important to get a reliable backup to Forte. If he goes down, offense could get derailed. I think the OL will be better promoting more consistency on offense. As much as a better defense makes the offense better we really need to add the RB and another TE and maybe at WR. You figure with a good offense that teams will be playing from behind and with an improve pass rush but could be riding a few loss team, but depth is paramount.

I think Donald will be a stud, but I think we are not saying-what we would do-but what we think Emery would do. I think he will first try to trade down and Donald wont be there. I think he might want a bigger guy, more from a durability issue. He just thinks he might hold up longer. I have never read where Donald was great with his run defense, so he may valve that in the equation. -

IMO, I think he is going to trade down and grab a Hageman or Truitt. Both are bigger, can play multi positions, and athletic. I want a playmaker on defense,CB,DT, S or LB, I dont really care long has he hits on it. -

I think it is hard to predict how the draft would have played out. Pre draft talk isnt worth crap on drafting positions players are actually drafted, we will never know. Draft is a crap shoot anyways, first round is 50% bust. -

It is considered a deeper draft but you never know how those things play out. I think Lovie was in the in Emery's ear on draft day, so I kinda of cut him a little slack on his first year. Was thrown in late and last year will be a better judge on him. -
Dont get me wrong would love for him to succeed but just now sure how he will fit.
-
We dont have enough years for Emery to properly compare drafts. We know JA wasnt very good at drafting. The last 5 years are what usually makes up the core of a team and we have little or nothing to show for it. What I like about Emery is he sees a weakness and seems to go after it to fix it. He adds 4 OL starters last year and now we have a descent OL with prospects of being much better. He is attacking the pass rush and think he could be doing a huge up grade there.

The possiblity exists he could draft any of the players previous mentioned, but he could surprise with a pick. I can see him trading down to the end of the round and grabbing a Truitt,Hageman or a Ward. -
I would think that's about right. If he was faster, he could maybe be a RB,S but his speed isnt great.4.74
