Warford would have been a good pick, but I think Long will end up being our LT once Bushrod falls off, Warford cant play that spot.

I will periodically list mock drafts of at least 3 rounds on this post. Draft Tek lists a draft as of 1/18 #1 Hagemen/DT/Minn #2 Bailey/SS/USC #3 Friedorowski/TE/Iowa #4 Martin/DE/NC #5 Ryenolds/CB/OreSU #6/a Ikard/OC/Oka #6/b Josh Huff/RB/Oregon I dont know much about any of them except for Hageman,BUT according to how the draft falls, this is who I would take in those spots #1 Hageman/DT #2 S Truitt/DE/ND #3 Desir/CB/Linedwood #4 Anthony Johnson/DT/LSU #5 Ward/SS/NIU #6 Ikard/OC/Okla #6 Logan Thomas/QB/VTU I kiinda went with the best player available theory which got me the 3 DLinemen.

coaches are a big part of success but if we dont make several changes on the DL , he will look bad too.
-
It shows other NFL people think he is good, not just us.
-
With the personal they still have, I think it wont be a true 3-4, the base will be a 4-3 and thhey will run a hybrid 3-4 with the same personal. Garzas money according to OVER THE CAP WEBSITE , it showed him being paid , 3.2 but it showed his cap space as 2.1 so I dont know if that means that was a bonus, and his salary was 1.1, so it covers the difference.
-
If they bring back Garza, I suspect they will have to pay him around 3, in a new contract for DLP, that could probably get in done in the first year. Young guy, or Garza, lets move younger.

I wish to throw out the name of Stevie Brown/S/Giants. He is a free agent, 5/11 221/ 4 year veteran. Had a big year 2012, 78 tackles, 8 int,11 PDs, 2 FF. in 11 starts. He is coming off an injury in 2013, if healthy, a up and comer that be gotten for a decent price. I dont think we have the money to go after Byrd or Ward, so an alternate plan. Another name I like is Brian De La Puerta/OC/NO. he is a FA and with there cap problems, he may be ripe for the picking.
-
I think if we landed DE Bennett, that would be a good signing.

Just got back from a week in Honduras(warm weather) so I can rap my mind around all of things we are talking about. I think Cody is someone we could realistically get. This is my take: the Bears have set themselves up to be flexible with the cap so I think we get one FA with a good contract and a couple of lower end FAs. I think they release Peppers so we resign Wooten as one DE( will come back to us on low end contract) I think we go after one DE like a Bennett that we wont get raped. We are in best position to get a moderate contract with Ratliff,Collins and probably Melton on a incentive laden contract. I think we bring back Bowman and dont end up with Peanut. We are suppose to be going young, but a thought of mine is to bring in some defensive leadership, maybe go after Vilma,MLB , could be got cheap, NO has big time cap issues. I think he could add some grit to the middle of defense and was there defensive leader until he was hurt, will be 32 thou next year. JUST THINKING OUT LOUD With all of the cap issues in NOs and with Grahams contract expired maybe we could get Brian LePuerta beings he has ties with our OC. A young pro caliber center I think the rest of positions will be addressed in draft I think we will be signing a whole bunch of 1mil FAs similar to last year. If I want to play Fantasy FAgency I could throw out lots of names, the fact is we will grab one good FA and a bunch of fill in the blanks. wish is wasnt so.

he hasnt decided what dead horse he will ride this off season.

we got injured and old at the same time. a lack of leadership, poor drafting; everything hit all at once.we , no matter who the cordinator was we were going to be bad. lets see what they do, and see what happens. im in houduras and a little out of touch for a week. -
We give Emery a hard time on his first year draft, but he gave us a pro bowler and a servial player in Frey.He brought us Marshall. We have the best tandem WRs in the league this side of Denver.
-
I like a lot of your names, the first round is one we could use at either position in either scheme. I give you a hard time sometimes, but you do have a lot good input in this blog.

This is a great article for rebuilding the Bears. Im not sure how to link this, so Im sure one of you brains will do it for us. Breaking Down Chicago Bears' 2014 Salary Cap: Where Is Money Best Spent? Its on Bleacher report?Bears

I heard they stuctured Slauson, Jennings contracts the same way. They did this for ultimate flexibility. I also think it is basically a 3 year 54 mil deal and their off the hook. If this plan doesnt work with Cutler, they move on. If it develops as planned it in the end will be good deal. Also, I think it tells us it will take more than one year to build the defense, by throwing everything up front, it gives them a couple of years to get this done, and all the contracts will be user friendly if they have to move on from their plan.
-
I think he goes and joins Lovie. I think some of the old regime on defense kinda didnt buy in to the new guys and that contributed the breakdown of the defense.
-
I think our leadership role will be filled in FAgency, and or the draft. We need a stud that can handle the leadership role.
-
Add into that he will be pining for a new contract. So I think with all we have to do on defense, lets just move on rebuild everything. we save 5.5 if we let Briggs go.
-
On the radio today they were talking about some hybrid defenses. Like a 3-4 with 4-3 personal, that gives us 4 pass rushers. I personally think they have a plan and will get it to where it needs to be. We either have to trust they know what there doing or stay on the titanic and ride it down. I prefer-hope.

It looks different to me

Dan Durkin was on the score this morning and made some interesting points. Cutler will be a 22.5 cap hit If we cut Peppers we we will save 14.1 against the cap We are up against the cap, so Clayton is probably right on. We have dead money carry over from the last 2 years. He mentioned Carmi, and dont remember the other two, so none of us were looking at that. Cutlers contract is full bore the first 3 years and then after that, he costs us nothing, the only QB contract that doesnt have later years costing the team cap money. He stated players we can cut and save money; Weems Bennett Peppers Bush He stated we probably wont have enough money to bring in a top tier defensive player, and we will only be signing our own FAs if they come back at our price. So if he is right we will be making one medium cost player to add to the defense.,resign some of our own, draft hopefully 3 starters on defense, and a whole bunch of 1 mil players like we did this year. So we are only deaming if we think we have wholesale changes on defense. I think we can hope for the best of having 4 new starts and a bunch of the same. Our younger players have to better. DE new guy, Bass,SCM,and some of maybe own back. DT drafted player, Paea, and maybe some of our own back, 1 mil signees. LB, Bostic,Greene, Briggs,SCM and maybe a cheap FA. CB-Frey,Jennings, some of our own and a couple of draft picks S-Conti,draft pick, FA, some cheap FA signings. The most important thing we need to do is add a defensive team leader, and playmaker. DE,DT,S,CB, I think we take the best player available in that, it has to be a playmaker.
-
Were looking at this from the outside, and I think they have a plan. Its not our plan. They will be creative and as SCS stated, a top and medium paid starters to defense and hopefully grab 3 starters in the draft. If we get rid of Briggs, it will only count 1 mil. against the cap and save us 4.5. We cant be as GOD AWFUL as we were this year. We need to let them do it and see what happens. They will fill the roster with the Andersons, Williams type 1 mil players like this year.
-
The details of the contract are not public yet, so anybody can assume what they want. The three years of 54 is simply front loading the contract so in three years if it doesnt go the way they expect, they can cut ties with him and no cap hits. Any large contracts they might sign players to now, they can back load contracts to take the biggest hits when Cutlers contract gets easier. Stien has always been good with the cap, so I think they probably have things figured out going forward. They did it quickly so they know what they have to spend , so I suspect they have a plan on who they want. Cutler got what QBs get in modern NFL. I read an article on PFF and it had Jay ranked in the top 10 this year for QBs, and they is how they paid him.
-
You nailed it, they keep Tucker to have a good excuse for being bad. give me a break.
-
Paying Cutler will limit us on many big signings. One pass rusher and will go after the 1 mil. contracts to add the depth. The draft will be key, have to get 3 defensive starters out of it. I think with SMC going to OLB and Bostic also, Briggs may be on his way out. He will only cost 1 mil. against the cap. I think it is time to get rid of our old crap and bring in some new crap to get our dandruff up.
