I can buy the we need thing, worth a high pick to get him but why would Az trade him? He is young talented, CBs dont grow on trees. A time that passing is taking over the league, Im sure AZ would love to just give him away.

I like the idea of adding OL every year but next year with so many contracts up and dire need of defense, I dont see how we can do that. With 7 picks we need a couple of DL, safeties, DBs and will draft a QB. Maybe a late round pick, but dont see that happening.
-
Our picks for next year are a total of 7: we traded a 7th away but received a 6th from TB for Carmi. I think depending on how the draft falls we need: 1st-CB or DT 2nd DT or CB 3rd QB or SS 4th SS or QB 5th DT or CB 6th CB or FS 6ht FS or CB

I like Jimmy G , seen him play against NIU, and he has game.6-3 222, same size as Cutler. He is not flying under the radar to scouts. He will be drafted late second or early 3rd which may or may not be available to us. I dont think we go with a drafted QB until either the 3rd or 4th round.

PFF is a good ruler to measure with but I think you put to much validity to it. The eye test, the line is improved over last year, has a lot of improvement to go. We have been successful on offense most of the time and it is due to better play out of OLine. We have a long way to go, but I see us getting better, not the inconsistency from the previous years.I kinda rate the comparison to evaluating a woman when you meet her. You look at her and dont get turned on but as you get to know her you find out that she has more to her than the face. I think Bushrod is slightly above average, Slausson is a good player, Garza is fading, Long and Mills futures look bright. We will look at the OLine much different at the end of the season. Maybe a 20th ranked team by the great PFF? I think we should resign Slausson to a long term deal and move him to center. I think Brown could move into his spot and keep Britton around for depth. Sign another vet on the cheap for depth, and that will be our OLine for the coming years. I dont think we have the draft picks to waste one on drafting another OL.
-
I dont think we're going to pull a rabbit out of a hat here, we will be just grabbing someone to play STs and go with Greene with Costanzo getting some reps. The defense has been quite awful and it can only play better but will have to come from some existing players playing better.

I agree with Peanut as FS, resign Jennings, and draft a starter with the first round. With so many roster spots to fill no way that were making some big trade. I dont see us getting rid of any of our draft picks either. I think we draft some needs, sign some mid level veterans and this a bunch of minimal pays guys like this year. I would like us to resign Slausson(have him play center), Anderson,Jenning, Collins. Get rid of Peppers, Hester, I think Briggs has one year left.

With the off week and injuries I looked at the 2014 draft. Walters has us drafting a CB.DT,then a QB names Fales from SJS. A west coast type QB: accurate, decent arm, some mobilty. Sounds like they got the positions right, the QB sounds interesting.
-
Two goods names to throw out there.
-
It has yet to be determined with so many variables to be considered. When will find out a lot of the coach and team in the games with Cutler out.
-
I would say the car comparison is a good one, but an Accord with all the bows and whistles. I dont think injury is at the forefront of anybody's thinking. He has had some, name a top 15 QB that hasnt. He is at a position that takes a lot of abuse. If you look at his history propably not any more than other QBs. It will come down to what the sucess is for the rest of the year. If we fair well without him, they may take the risk of going in a different direction. We have only 30 players under contract for next year. I think with a (QB guru) not my speak, drafting a QB that starts right away is a possibility for next year. I would say a salary of 3 mil a year looks more attractive than a franchise tag of around 18 mil. It is just an option to look at , how he plays for the rest of the year, our team success, many things to ponder going forward.
-
Your spot on, if this groups develops into a mid level OLine, I think thats a good thing. Since PFF is so important, lets say a 15th to 23 ranked OLine will due. Long and Mills will only get better, Garza wont be the center next year, starting to fade. The arrow is pointed up.
-
I mean no disrespect but Indy has beaten Denver, SF and Seattle and I dont believe they are any better than those three teams. The point is better teams lose to lesser teams all the time in the NFL.
-
From what I heard they didnt say for sure they were moving on, just have the scope to do that if things regress instead of progress.
-
I agree that Long will be the eventual LT, the line is way better than last year if you use the eye test. It has room to grow, and PFF is just a tool to help with evaluation, not a bible.

I think our next game against GB will define our season, if we are in it all the way, or happen to win it, we still could make the playoffs. I think we go 2-2 until Cutler gets back, keeps us in the hunt. If we end up with a bad lose, not looking for a lot of wins going forward.
-
That would not be a bad idea, but I think with all the lousy QB play in the NFL, he might be in demand. Maybe go get him now, while they are lousy and feel the need to change things up.

I was listening to the Score this morning, and they were talking about an insider(who knows how valid that is) that stated that Emery and Trestman are prepared to move on without Cutler in the coming year. That Trestman's system doesnt need a strong arm Farve type QB, that a mobile, smart, consistent decision making QB will work this fine and can be gotten in this draft way cheaper than Cutler will cost going forward. In some ways that makes sense. Gannon wasnt a strong armed guy. The QB in Canada was a dink and dunk type thrower. The money we would have to pay Cutler even at a reduced rate, could be used to upgrade a pitiful defense. One good draft(the jury is still out on Emery) and a few key FA signings could go a long way to improving our team overall. I am not sure I am sold on moving on with out Cutler but it is an interesting thought to ponder. 2014 QBs: 3rd round possibilities A.J. McCarren-ALA Thomas-VT Renner-NC These are QBs not rated as high that has some of the qualities that Trestman might be looking for.
-
I agree.
-
I would rather have Collins at a reduced valve, he plays the run better.

I was looking forward and just threw out a lot of randon thoughts. If we decide to go forward with a high drafted QB not Jay Cutler, I was thinking that wouldnt settle well with Marshall and he would be a pain in the ass with the new QB. We have many people to sign at a lot of spots on defense, and with the attempt to bring back Briggs, Tillman at reduced wages, I think his contract will be counter productive going forward. I dont want to lose him but think we will have a lot of dead money on the books with getting rid of Peppers that we may have to lose his contract. Jefferies is a similar player(not as close to as good)but we may need his cap space. Money next year will be hard to come by with so many spots to fill, not just starters but upgrading the backups.Forte, Bennett, and Bushrod are still big contracts to deal with. The 3-4 thought was our strongest position top to bottom will be LB going forward, with Briggs probably being brought back, Greene,SMC as a LB(he sure aint got it as a DE), Washington as a 3-4 OLB and Bostic, it might be easier to change to a 3-4. The key will be to find a couple of NTs and if Wooten and Paea being able to play DE in a 3-4.Whether we go to a 3-4 or stick with the 4-3 we still need Safties, CBs, and a couple of DTs .

Since you and I are both WS fans, what do you think about the Cuban and the place Dunn or Konerco play in our future?
-
Wow an abusive dad making your kids wear Bears wear in the dark days that are coming.
-
The news will come today on Cutler, if it is season long, are we now rebuilding for the future? Cutler would be a big loss, but I think our main problem is a porous defense with no bright light in the future. Our top two playmakers are hurt, hopefully not for long. Peppers is average at best. Safeties suck a big one. Bostic, Bass, Frey, are a few names to watch going forward, but not much in the well. The end result of bad drafts are showing now with not many backups looking like players. Stars are getting older. Low lights-Peppers, Wright,Conte, Tillman hurt all the time, lack of depth at DT. Highlights-entertaining games but, fear will be to many on the wrong side of the score. Bostic getting better Maybe Bass can become what SCM was suppose to be. I think Wotten can sustain a good career. Paea can be a long time starter. Briggs maintaining high level of play. What does the future look like? Our offense will keep getting better as the games go forward, no Cutler for the rest of the year could cause us to look for a first round QB, which would be bad for the potenial high draft picks we need on defense. I will rout for this team wins or no wins, just wont be as much fun. Bright lights-Jefferies is a player, M. Bennett has a future here, Oline keeps getting better, Bostic will turn into a good player, Frey may become a starter at corner, maybe Bass turns into a starter. Conclusion: I think Trestman is a good coach and will, no matter who the QB is, keep the offense going in the right direction. I dont think we can blame Tucker for a lack of depth and lack of talent. We have to keep drafting better players and may finally get a lower slot to draft them in.All the teams that turned it around had high drafts picks to become there core players.Indy as an example. Our defense is just going to be bad and we just have to accept it. Our STs are not very good, but that is something we can keep getting better at as we lift the player talent at the back of the roster. No matter what the news is on Cutler we will be drafting our QB of the future this year. We just dont know what round we will have to do that yet. Crystal Ball: I think Cutler is out for the year, and we franchise him for one year while we develop the QB of the future. Our draft will include QB,2-DTs,2-safties,2-CBs. We cut loose of Peppers, Marshall(he just becomes a distraction as we lose he clamors for more money)in the offseason, dont resign Melton or Garza. Tillman comes back as our FS. We change to a 3-4 (what a better time to do it than during big turnover of roster) We resign Wooten, as a 5 technique DE, SCM goes to LB where he belongs, Frey is one of our CBs, CJ Wilson becomes our NB, we resign Slausson as our OC and Brown becomes the starter at LG. Paea to the other end position? Dont know if that will work or not. Our LBs are Green,Bostic,Briggs,SCM. we have Washington and Bass in the wings as a rush LBs. Our defense will still be bad but at least we have young players in positions to improve going forward. Our offense keeps getting better with or without Cutler. I will rout for this team no matter what, hopeful for wins.

Totally agree with you, I dont see , with his experience why they cant do that mid season. Put Frey there and Bowman or CJ Wilson will have to play nickel
