Odds of us signing a top type LT in FAgency is slim especially, if we try to resign Melton. SO here are our choices:(no particular order) Max Starks- older but maybe a stop gap for a year Wil Svitek- played well last year, older but maybe a stop gap for a year King Dunlap- a little younger and maybe can last 3 years (not great) but I will accept average at this point Jason Smith- a second player overall bust in 2009, maybe Kroner can bring him up to par ( Im reaching with this one) I think due to his age, Dunlap would be an inexpensive choice, and if he WEBB beats him out, I will have to eat some crow.
-
late first, early second. Who needs him in the top 15? that doesnt need more apparent help.
-
I dont think he makes it out of the 3rd, but I think taking a chance on him, if he falls to us in the 4th would be great. Athletic, speed, KR,PR specialty plays on offense. Worth a chance at 4.
-
Those are 3 names I am looking at. I think one will fall there. I would say it would be really nice if we could trade down, and get a third to make sure we get one of those guys. If we trade down we could still get a starting OG like Warford or even Jones will be there, early 2nd
-
That will never happen, I wont mind that, but there will be many options for a speed guy in the 4th, I see Austin as a (Randall Cobb) type, which would be great, but still think the 1st round will be a OL, no tackle, then one of the top two guards will fall.
-
I agree, we need to fix the OL, but handing the LT job to Carmi could be a disaster. He hasnt proved anything yet. We need someone to compete with the LT spot, and move Webb to RT, or retain Scott and have them battle for the job. I thiink we get a OG draft pick for LG and Copper should be there. We need to bring someone in to compete for LT in FAgency and see it to be a second tier guy. We need options if our crap OL incumbents stay shitty. A OG and LT and resign Louis and Scott. That is the best I think we can do without dreaming.
-
The speed thing just moved both of these guys up one round, which is bad for us. Austin went from the 3rd to the second, and Goodwin from the 4th to the 3rd, which we dont ha

Every thread that comes on here seems to always go to the OL, for good reason. In order for us to fix this, it wont be with big money players. I believe it will be with a drafted OG and a second tier LT. They want to resign Scott as a swing tackle, not the starter so that tells me Webb will be moved to RT to beat out maybe Carmi? or Scott? Or Carmi goes to RG, I suspect. Somebody brought up Dunlap, it will be someone like that for the LT spot, I suspect. SO---new guy, Copper or (if were lucky)Warmack, Garza( who actually if starting to fall off,so I see a later round OC draft pick), Carmi or Louis, Webb or Carmi. I believe this will be what we have to work with when the season starts this year. That will be with in our cap restraints, and hopefully improve the line. We still have Brown to develop, which maybe in a year move copper to OC and Brown takes over LG. I dont think we have a lot of options. But on the other hand, lets dream and say we draft Johnson/LT and sign Leverite/LG and get Barret Jones in the second. I like to dream but always come back to reality, it aint going to happen.
-
Clady will be tagged, end of that dream. Peppers contract is restructed to put the money on the end and that prohibits us from a long term deal with Cutler. Melton could be let go, if he is stuborn with the 8 mil a year figure. They can due some cap dancing but it would never be enough to grab both Clady and keep Melton. that would be 18 mil we would of had to come up with, never happen.

There is a real good chance KC drafts a LT with the first pick, so Albert might be available, since he stated he doesnt want to play OG. Bushrod has a tie here, so why say he will sign else where? Your probably right about the rest. Pats wont let V go he was the best RT in the league last year.
-
Vollmer aint going anywhere, the Pats wont let him get away. THERE SMARTER THAN US
-
They are always different reports, but I think all you do is add up the top 51 contracts and that gives u the number. There are different ways to make it work, but that is up to someone smarter than me. I think we get a couple of second tier players, and hope that is an upgrade. I would like to say lets get Levite, Beatty, and throw in M. Wallace. It just aint going to happen.
-
your more fun. It aint about being a hater, I WISH him success, just dont think he has it in him.
-
I am sorry your on the Webb train, because it aint going anywhere but to a backup role.
-
who is the DT that jumped out of a pool? he didnt last long. It allways bothers me that you look at tape all year and see a football player, and then he doesnt have great times, or jumps and the athletes now become the best football players. I know it is a composite of a lot of information but the Combine is given to much stock in players abilities. Hopefully Emery finds the best football players.
-
Honestly, do you consider him a NFL starter worthy of his job. I am not considering because we dont have the money to probably replace him. I am talking about in his career, and improvement every year, at this point, could he start on any other team this side of AZ. I really doubt. Usually players his age took there step last year, and he did improve, but to what the 24th best LT, not good enough.
-
Im not sure its a good idea when NFL players arent sure they want to play football anymore. He is done and hope we know better to have him back.
-
that would be a mistake, but the oline hasnt been much since Cutler got here. We really need to replace him.
-
I wish I was wrong but we aint spending a lot of money on a OG,. what Levitre will cost anyway. Since our cap money aint great we will be second tier shopping.
-
On most boards now, Ertz is being picked higher.Eifert is more athletic but is he a better football player? time will tell. I would take either one at this point.
-
I think Toub is a smart guy and sees what we see. So then why would they trade, when he knows we will be cutting him due to his salary. He will cost the Bears 2.9 mil if he stays this year. Where as if we cut him dead cap money would be 833 thou. If we cut him, someone may offer him a mill to be a KR/PR, and be able to cut him if he aint got it anymore.
-
There is no way in hell we spend 10 mil on a FA WR. that wipes out all of money.

I have been reading Bears reporters tweets and it has been stated that they wish to bring back Idonije, Scott, and Louis. That Carmi is figured to be a flexible player G and T. so what does all that tell us? Does the possiblity exist that McCellan goes to LB if they bring back Idonije? Emery stated he could play other positions? If they bring back Scott, I would say he is our RT? With Louis coming back our RG? I suppose that depends on health. Carmi being flexible, does that mean he goes to LG? It has been stated they are looking at 2 FAgent OTs. So if thats the case, whoever it is, that Webb becomes our swing tackle? If all this is true, what would our first 2 draft picks be, considering Emery stated, those picks should be starters. Maybe a TE, and WR? Then in the 4th and 5th some olinemen to add depth? Sort it out and let me know what you think?
-
I dont see anybody dumb enough to trade for Hester(Lovie didnt get a job) Watch the tape and we all can see it aint there. Could it come back, I very much doubt it . Way to much money for a KR on a team with cap problems.

I looked back at all the responses on this thread and YOU are the one that brought Bushrod up. He is just an alternative choice we may have. He is not the top of the food chain, but he is better than Webb. There are other names in FAgency, and almost all are better than Webb. He went from Worst to bad , to almost not as bad. I would rather take a player that has actually played well at some time in his career, as to some one (that did not look terrible) ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT
