Your right so leave that out of it.(That what if comes from left field, keep the ball in the infield) The list I gave is what is possible to be there. If there is a run on OL and DE that gives us different players to choose from.If there is a run on QBs that changes the list. Like the Bears, we have to put a list together that might be there, it changes as the draft goes on. So because Austin may be gone do we leave him off the list? It is a probability thing. It will be a consensus of what we all think, so just make a list and AZ puts it together and we make a pick.

That all sounds good to me. Now in compiling our list we have to be realistic on who will be there at our pick. Everybody would take Dee Millner, or Dion Jordan but they wont be there. I have been looking at Big Boards lately and most of the same names fall in the first 20 most of the time. I tried to post a thread where everyone would take a shot at who would be our first pick( 17 days to go-pick our 1st rounder?) but everybody got off track from that. I will give it the first shot at that list-of players who could be there-and our list. I look at several big boards and they vary quite a bit. GBND, Draftcountdown, NFP, Walters, and that consensus is what I am using as a general format. Travin Austin- Since we have filled some needs in FAgency, and Emery has talked about playmakers I think he has fallen to the top of the list. He regularly falls in the teens as far as rating. Desmond Trufant- He falls in our range on almost all BBs so I think he will be a player that will see some time on the field and be a starter after this year. With all the passing teams in the league, you can never have enough CBs. Alex Ogletree- We still need youth at LB and he could be a stud at the position, I guess we need to determine if his off field trouble will lower his rating. If we decide that Arthur Brown would slide into this spot. Sheldon Richardson- We still need one more DT for our rotation and is a high rated prospect that could easily be there when we pick. D.J. Fluker- I think he will be to good of a player to pass on, but is not at the top of the list due to the log jam at our RT position. When we resigned Scott, and Webb and Carmi, I think we might address other needs first. My take: Austin will be a play maker that we wont find later in the draft. Trufant is generally rated the 2nd best CB in the draft and will make a contribution all season. Ogletree could be the next big thing at LB for us. If Richardson falls to us, he would be to good to pass up. Fluker could be taken if the others are gone before us. FOOTNOTE: COPPER AND WARMACK WOULD BE AT THE TOP OF THE LIST, BUT I DONT SEE ANY SCENARIO THAT THEY FALL TO US.

I believe he is making 9 mil right now and that is probably what he is worth, but totally agree with you on he will a lot better this year and ends up in the 15 mil at the end of the season.

That is a good article, and Im sure the scouts were watching (The Biggest Losers show) when they noticed him. In the article the writer commented on the reason Russel wasnt in the NFL was because he lacked heart and desire. I am not sure that is who we want for any roster spot on our team.
-
I can live with that choice. I think there is going to be a stud type player fall to our spot, it may be LB, DE, DT or CB. I hope we pick a player that also fills a need, but no matter what position it is , if he is a stud, we all will end up being happy in the end.

If they draft a CB with our first round pick it will be to eventually replace Tillman or Jennings not Moore. If we draft a DT that high it will be the BPA and if the situation arises that Melton doesnt get a long term contract deal done, to replace him. I am not against those positions just dont feel it was for the reasons you suggested.
-
I am referring to the statement I made. If you look at all threads they oftentimes go off of there subject all the time.
-
I still dont see us grabbing a TE that early, but I do think Emery will suprise us in the draft.
-
The point wasnt talking about a third string QB , it about the pointless discussion of our priority should be replacing Moore and Idonije in the draft. Not a very intelligent outlook on our draft. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE NEED TO DO,WITH OUR FIRST TWO PICKS IS REPLACE THEM? Thats just dump.
-
Your right, if the OL guys arent there, but another CB would see a lot of playing time in our pass happy NFL of today. Smart people in the draft, draft quality players at any position, they dont draft for need. Anybody this side of a QB,RB will improve this team in our future. If we get a stud-anywhere- I cant see myself complaining.
-
Just something to talk about. I list this in the same category as (replacing Moore and Idonije as the priority in the draft) conversation. Non important issues were discussing on here right now.

I keep seeing Jarvis Jones/LB dropping and also B Werner/DE. This were players rated much higher than 20th, would everbody be pissed if there our picks? If BPA holds up one of them could be our pick.
-
The problem with your suggestion is , it isnt what we think about it , its what the Bears brass thinks about it, and its looking like they arent interested in your suggestion.
-
So by your logic we should be pining for Ryan Leaf to come out of retirement to be a better backup to Cutler. SOMETIMES high rated players just end up sucking, as you pointed out somewhere the experts dont hit 40% on there picks.
-
The whole idea of this thread was for members to throw names our there that they think will end up being productive pros, that seems to have went sideways.
-
I agree that is NOT what I want to happen. I just think the quality players I think available at that spot might not be what I desire and they go with a BPA scenario and that is what we end up with. With all our CBs out of contract at the end of this year, this is a REAL possibility of happening.
-
I think all the OL people we would draft will be gone. I think we would like to draft Austin and he will be gone. I think the players that drop down to us will be DE/DT types, but I think Trufant is ranked right around our pick in the big boards I have been looking at and think he will be our pick. This is not the player, I would like, that would be Ogletree at this stage but, think with his off field problems, we let him slide. There is a real good chance we move down but for sake of this thread, we pick Turfant/CB.

I think they cut Hester or make him take a pay cut this year. We will save 2.1 if we cut him with 833,000 dead cap. That is to much money for a KRer. I think you are right on with Peppers next year, they redo his deal and stays another year. I think next year the dead cap money would only be 3.2 mil., so cutting him out right is probable . Bennett becomes productive, we keep him but redoes his contract. He is paid way to much for what he gave us last year. I think Forte has a big year this year and we keeep him around. I think Briggs stays to finish his contract, and gets a Urlacher deal. Take it or leave. I also think we end up cutting Gould this year and redo his contract. He will make 2.9 mil, and with all the vets getting cut, we could get one for a mil. I also think after this year Podlesh is gone. This year the dead money would be 1.2 but next year they will be no penalty. Micheal Bush has his guaranteed money done after this year, so that could be a spot to free up money next year. Bottom line is next year will have some sweeping changes and will have more money that we think they will.

Im a plumber by trade, but actually was going to college to be a psychologist. And since were both avid Bear fans, feel more than qualified to help.

I will list some names of players drafted in latter rounds that end up being good pros. WR- I think Dennard Robinson ends up either as a PR,KR or a slot type WR being a productive NFL player. He has the speed football IQ to succeed at the next level. OG-Alvin Bailey/Ark- He is athletic, been productive- and could end up a starter with the right team. OC- Brian Schwenke - I think he starts his first year in the league. DT- Akeem Spence- He had 72 tackles as a senior at Illinois- that is huge for a DT. OLB- Gerald Hodges- Highly productive player with good instincts- I think he eventually starts for an NFL team. CB- Terry Hawthorne- has the size and speed to be successful in the NFL. He improved every year.
-
As you said I think they keep Hester around until after the draft and if we get somebody to take his spot as a KR,PR he will be gone. I think PFF is a good tool to use in judging players, but it is not a Bible for players values as you can see by what teams have did in FAgency. Almost every discussion you have uses PFF as the main source. As you have seen from the Bushrod signing, the Bears view him as a better player than Webb, even though they are close according to PFF. Did we pay him to much, of course we did, but when you fill needs in FAgency you usually have to over pay. I think Bushrod will not be great at the position but above average and consistent. His OL coach is now here, and we would have never did that if he didnt think he could fix some of the negatives he brings with him. He was all pro for two years, they dont give those cudos out to just anybody. He was the starting LT on one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL the last 4 years that he started. He isnt perfect but you will see him to be a huge upgrade over Webb. I hope Webb makes in on the RT spot, but have my doubts because he is soft.
-
Like someone mentioned before, Emery didnt come into the best situation when it comes to the cap space. Several players carry big cap numbers, but think he has done well with what he has to work with. I think next year some of the big contracts will be cut or lowered and more adjusting of the roster will continue.

I dont think we add any more LBers in FAgency. I think the possiblity exists we add 2 in the draft. We acquired our starters, and now will add youth to the position going forward.
