Preseason Week 1 Game Thread - Bears at Bills, NFLN, Sat, 8-12, 12pm Central

K Allen didnt play. He's an old man, they want him healthy. One of these games they will leave the first team on for a half, we will see him then. -
Of course the competition is below standard but its better than not being noticed at all. I dont think he starts but positive plays is a confident builder. He at least can contribute on a rotation basis.

Our depth seems to be better than past yrs. Who sticks around out of the backups? -

Waldron must want to take advantage of his speed as far as putting him at RB. He didnt play his first game what suggests he already made the team. Fumbling will give him a quick exit if it continues. -

Just got back from Sturgis just in time to see the game. Caleb looked in control and nice throws. (two were dropped) They seem to want to get V Jones indocternaded in the offence. Are able to pressure the QB Can run the ball -
The Football Scout has al lot of Bear content. It shows Booker has some good traits and will eventually show up in pressures and sacks. Like he said, he will probably be a situational pass rusher in the begining.

I missed most of the interview but heard someone mention 48 snaps. I thought it was Wanny but probably Spegs. -
That list was just probable keepers but Carter would seem to be odd man out. Yhey have 2 speed backups in Jones and Scott.

You're spot on Troy directed a quetion to Poles( saying his name) and Warren answered it. Everybody (Media) said Warren came in to take over control of running the team. He was a former lawyer would run the finances part of the Vikings stadium. That's what he was hired to do. Eventually he will gain more control and become part of the decision makers. He has no experience in personal , coaches or players. For now, they run information by him to keep him in the loop, but leaves Ian and Poles to decide. Kinda hard for him to fire somebody if he is the final say. He would have to fire himself if part of decision making.

I dont think Warren contributed much to the draft. I think its Ian and Poles doing the work. Warren is a finance guy and kind of the politician in the group. Of course he inject himself in the conversation.

I think Collin Johnson has the chance to stick because of his size. 6-6 With 4.65 speed more like a TE but is a good blocker and can high point the ball. He does have a role on special teams. I think they keep 6 WRs and Jones- Scott give you the speed element. Allen 6-3 DJ 6 Rome 6-3 Scott 5-11 V Jones 6 DeAndre Carter 5-8

Actually have never watched hard knocks, I will this time.

I am just trying to lay out what Poles is doing, I have always believed in build inside out and then add stars. I give him this year to see what it turns into. I do agree with not over paying free agents. Cushenberry is getting 50 for the next 4 yrs. I seen one ranking where Cush is ranked 14th, Bates is ranked 25th. Cush is a better player but not sure if he's worth the difference in pay. Connor Williams isnt ranked anywhere (C or G) because he still cant play. He went after Mike McG in 2023 and I'm glad we didnt get him. He has played terrible since he got paid. (was over rated) His first year he went after Joseph Notebook and Brian Allen that both ended up injured that year. Also Ryn Bates and lost out. My point he is trying to build the OL without over paying and as much as its still question marks, he had made moves. Braxton Jones has played well above his draft posiion and this year will clear up how good he will be. He drafted Kiwan for a backup plan.(highly considered prospect). Tevin Jenkins injury cycle cwill seal his fate. I hope he stays healthy. Bates and Shelton are upgrades but nt sure how much, Davis needs to be good this year, that remains to be seen. Wright is a future star. I'm not sure exactly what else he could have done other than Cushebberry at 50 mil. He still could sign Williams but he proably wouldnt play until mid season at best.

What OL asset are you getting for a 4th round pick? So you are saying you didnt like the Rome pick at 9? You would have drafted a lineman? There are only so many high assets to use. Our next pick was a OT. He traded our 2nd pick for Sweat, another bad idea? Connor Williams was the only OC worth bringing in and he still hasnt signed because of an injury. He brought in Nate Davis in 2023, was the second biggest contract sighned that yr. It hasnt turned out but he tried. In 2023 he tried to get Mike McGlinchey which would have been a diaster, and then drafted Wright. What would you have did different? When you add the OL player, dont forget to subtract the asset he added. When he went after OL free agents, he would not over pay for them. i think that is smart decisions. I agree with you on imporance of the OL but had he used our top assets, Sweat, Rome, our DBs would not be here This is his third yr of the rebuild, he originally stated it was a 5 yr job, I think he has done well for cap space and player adds.

There are tons of Bear media now and everytime there is a disgrunted player, they jump on. Old, pre-injuried and looking for a 30 mil contract is not what Poles looks for. He acquires players with an eye to the future, that was Sweat. Only cheap add ons are coming if at all. -
DJ Moore gets 4-yr extension - $110M, $86M Guaranteed

I was trying to give an example of Pace's bad decisions with money. !4 mil was absurd considering how bad he was. In his 10 year career he never made more than 2 mil. -
I still think if we win on a high level that there is an opening for Allen to come back if he is a contribtor to that success. With Rome and DJ , Kmet here for 3 yrs or more , this is our core. If Tyler Scott or V. Jones show something this year they are under contract for next year. If we win 9-10 games and Allen is the main dude, Poles can tag him for 1 more year. If Allen gets absorbed in the culture and we win beyond 10 games, he may accept a team friendly deal for a few yrs to be part of a SB run. Odds of him being back is 10% IMO but Poles surprises us all the time. Need to see him contribute this yr, he will not be cheap.

Poles is building this team- in year 3 we only a few questions left to fill spots. LT- Braxton Jones-Larry Borom- Kiwan A. has exceeded his drafting spot but still needs to improve. ( brought in Kiwan ) in case his development is limited. LG- Trevon Jenkins is above average but has questions on his health going forward. Ja'Tre Carter-Jerome Carvin-Coleman Shelton-Ryan Bates All in line for 2nd in OC- Ryan Bates-Colleman Shelton-Doug Kramer still have questions but enough bodies to make contributions RG- Nate Davis-Matt Pryor-Bill Murray- Theo Benedet Big question on Davis but plenty of time to correct behavior. several options for backup RT- Darnell Wright-Jake Curhan-Avante Collins. Wright has star potenial but backup still unclear. IMO the best 5 will be the starters. Next in order Shelton- Bates at RG- Matt Pryor at several positions-Kiwan once healthy Overall I think we are better than last year. I think Poles is building the OL without trying to use his top assets to contribute. One- 1st round-one 3rd-one 5th-one 6th-one 7th He is using assets to bring in playmakers on O and D. I get the importance of the OL and one more year of the rebuild will determine how he is doing.

One list of top 100 players from a NFL person has 22 WRs listed and no DJ Moore. He was 12th in receptions 5th in yardage tied for 7th in TDs. WTF? -

His next 2 yrs are a bargain at 16 mil per year. A reward for future monies is cap friendly the length of the contract in comparision to money being paid even this yr. He is setting up key people to make a long run with the rookie deal for CW. At this point in Ryan Pace history cycle, he started giving money to non stars. Mike Glennon name comes to mind. Whwn Poles said he wanted to build a winner to substain for many yrs, this is how you do it. Thru 2027 he has these players signed. (2027) bonus +salary Montez Sweat $4,085,295-$21,000,000 Jaylon Johnson $5,000,000-$16,000,000 Cole Kmet $1,600,000-$10,000,000 Caleb Williams $12,563,746 Cairo Santos $560,000-$3,200,000 Rome Odunze $7,230,523 Kiran Amegadjie $280,331-$1,601,499 potenial LT Tory Taylor $186,975-$1,190,000 Austin Booker $87,284-$1,190,000 potenial edge star -
The slow start last year was noticable but not sure we can say because of the first game. Its extra so they are treating it as not important. If someone would have got hurt, they was be roasted by us. So their just doing what they think is best.

Flus said today , no starters are playing.

I think any QB due a contract are going to be overpaid these days. It was just his turn. GB didnt have a choice and hoped it turns out a good idea. A lot of teams regretting choices these days.
