Yeah Payton is still the #1 guy and has been since he got there.
-
It's been Sean Payton's organization and system since he's gotten there....he hit absolute home runs immediately his first year as they completely turned over their roster. With that being said- there isn't anyone else in that organization worth looking at.

I believe that to be a realistic off-season...but if that is our off-season I won't be happy. Cut needs a vet big bodied WR who can hit the ground running immediately (I understand some ideas may be unrealistic, but they'd better try to make a play). I'm also never thrilled at the idea of taking a G in the 1st Round....Chris Williams was a disaster on both ends at T and I'd hate to see him put back on the outside. In reference to dealing Briggs...I'd deal him for a 3rd if I could just to be rid of him. I've had enough of the guy.

As a Madison, WI resident (big Badger football fan) and have seen Toon in person 12-15 times....Toon would be a steal in the 2nd. We don't know where Toon will go until he runs at the combine...bottom line. Kiper had him as a top 30 on his big board pretty much all year long. Another point to touch on reference Toon's play his Sr. season was Russ Wilson wasn't a great fit for him. Don't get me wrong- Russ was a wonderful QB for the Badgers and was the main reason they went to the Rose Bowl. However, Russ didn't throw guys open as he just waited for guys to be open...thus is why Abbrederis got so many balls. Toon is a guy you can throw open, which is HUGE in the NFL because you don't have a WI OL that dominates all game and you can just sit and wait on people. Add in the fact that his father was a great pro receiver with the Jets, the Badgers have turned in wonderful pass catchers over the years in Chris Chambers, Lee Evans, Owen Daniels, Lance Kendricks (project) and Travis Beckum (project)....what isn't to like about his pedigree? I'm not at all saying Toon is a legit 1st Round pick, but he'll probably be close IF he runs well.

I'd be shocked if Miami didn't look to move Marshall for some value due to flat out rebuilding. They were a playoff caliber team when they signed Marshall to that big contract and things just fell apart on them at the QB position. I've been screaming for a Marshall trade since the trade deadline as it makes absolute sense...it'll make even more sense should the Bears hire Bates as the QB Coach. Not sure Briggs would get it done however....they gave two 2nds for Marshall and I'm thinking if they take Briggs (whether they have interest in him or not) it'll take the Olsen 3rd Rounder as well.

They pulled Williams a lot, yes. However, he often would run out there and just get in the way or not block anyone. Same with Webb...(they pulled Aaron Gibson all of the time when he was in Chicago, too). I wouldn't question Williams' athletic ability, but a bull rush beats him everytime. I'm still not over that Haynesworth game from over a year ago. If you want to say he's good enough...fine, but exceptional? No.

My dad is a Packers fan and I get Packers/Brewers memos every year for Christmas.... When I was opening the package I saw an authentic autographed football and was thiking 'Urlacher...Urlacher...Urlacher'..........oh it's Jermichael Finely...........yay.

I don't get why you're so high on Williams....not even a little.

I believe this is the very best the Bears could have done, if indeed Tice brings Bates in to be his QB Coach. I'm a huge Bates fan and Tice has a lot of experience in dealing with offenses as he called plays in Minnesota years ago while Linehan got adjusted....hell the Titans wanted to interview Tice last year for the OC job and the Bears said no. Tice was going to get a chance to call plays eventually and I don't mind it being here. Besides, what we saw a lot of last year as the Bears ran for over 2000 yards wasn't really Martz's offense...it was so watered down I would have preferred Tice had taken over during the bye week. Don't buy too much into this "passing game coordinator" terminology as its just a term. Bates had the same title in Denver with Shanny and Cut years back. Tice is familiar with what Cut likes to do and he's familiar with what the offensive line can/can't handle. Bates can only complement Tice/Cutler in this regard and build off of what they've already accomplished together. As long as Lovie is the HC moving forward- I'm more than okay with this move.

Good for him and good for the Raiders. He had an immediate job offer and didn't want to wait for another one. It's a shame he doesn't have a high pick for a few years.

I'm not saying the Bears aren't in a win now mode and are attractive to SOME canidates.... however, if things flop bad in Chicago over the next two years if they 'Go for it' (which is very very possible) that GM could potentially get canned. A place like Indy/St. Louis is a 5 year minimum deal with unlimited control to do whatever they want.
-
Every team wants this guy and I'm not really sure how he would see the current Bears organization has appealing as that as St. Louis and Indy seeing is it isn't a rebuilding model and he has to take Lovie whether he wants him or not. Throw the checkbook at him!

Sundquist was the runner-up to Angelo back in '01. I'd rather the Bears chase the other three names.
-
Just hire Jeremy Bates and he'll just have to review what he flourished in doing under Bates/Shanny in Denver.

I believe very few Bears fans actually "want" Lovie fired. I do however feel most deem it at least necessary reference Angelo's firing. I was one that wanted him gone two years ago....but his ability to help sway Peppers here and the fact that these guys won't just play for him, but run through a friggin' wall for him speaks volumes. Not too mention I appreciate how much of a true leader, a true man and holds christian values which is a rarity these days. I do, however, feel Lovie should be let go since Angelo was let go because you have to replace Angelo with a guy who should want his own head coach. It's nothing against Lovie, but that's just how it is. (I apologize if I echoed the sentiment that has already been echoed by myself and everyone else, but it deserves to be mentioned in every thread pertaining to Lovie's dismissal)

My buddy in San Diego said Jackson took a lot of games off this year, but auditioned in Chicago..........and boy did he! With that being said *waives arms in excitement* I WANT HIM!
-
Anyone know what Jeremy Bates is doing these days?

Take your open sets with you, Mikey.

Jerry Angelo's 11 year stint in Chicago wasn't a failure by any means. I wish him the very best moving forward, but am not all that sad to see him go. However, I will miss him as I felt he was a classy guy. We can't forget the previous 10 years before Angelo got here....here are a few reasons to keep Jerry/few reasons to fire. These are very general so "Bear" with me. Why to keep Jerry: *The Bears took down 4 division titles and made a super bowl with some exciting play through the years under Angelo. They've been a good football team overall under Angelo as I've appreciated they've kept the Bear brand in being great on defense and attempting to slug it out on offense. *He inherited Hatley's team. While he inherited a future pro-bowler in Urlacher...this was still a team built around the contracts of Cade McNown (Cade was gone, but they owed him coin) and Phillip Daniels that by fluke went 13-3 with a perfect storm of a Ted Washington/Keith Traylor in front of Urlacher with healthy Rosey Colvin/Warrick Holdman/Mike Brown flying around making plays. What everyone couldn't have known was that team needed to be rebuilt. If Angelo would have made sweeping changes and fired Dick Jauron (who he also inherited) people would have called for his head. This situation set Angelo back a year or two at least in his start to rebuilding the Bears. *Before the injury to Cutler/Forte...the Bears may have very well been the 2nd best team in the NFL this season. If everything would have been brought back next season with a tweak here and there....the Bears could have challenged the Packers. I'm not sure you could ask for more out of any GM or team. *He got Jay Cutler. For the first time ever as a Bears fan- I know the Bears have a franchise QB for the next 7 plus years they can build around. *He created an organization that was able to walk a FA like Julius Peppers to Chicago. There were plenty of teams willing to pay what the Bears did to get Peppers...but Angelo created an organization led by Lovie and others that could convince Peppers to put the C on his helmet. This can't be understated at all moving forward as the Bears organization is very well respected throughout the NFL. Why to fire Jerry: *When the Bears lost the '04 season because Rex got hurt.......Angelo absolutely could not allow that to happen again. If there was ever an example to show a GM that can't happen...'04 was it. Unfortunately, it happened again this year when Cut went down. This was inexcusable to allow on Angelo's behalf and he had to be held accountable. *What Jerry accomplished as GM in Chicago had a lot to do with Brian Urlacher who he inherited. Angelo had the pleasure to witness first hand of what it looks like when the defense is built around Urlacher in having big bodies in front of him and allowed to make every play. 2001 was as good of a season as we'll ever see a MLB have....yet Angelo decided to build around Urlacher in a Cover 2. Instead of Urlacher attacking side line to side line and keeping blockers off of him in the 4-3/Nickel defenses Jauron ran....Urlacher has had smaller DTs in front of him who get up the field while Urlacher drops into coverage. I'm not saying Angelo failed Urlacher in this regard, but he could have done Urlacher more of a service. Urlacher would have succeeded in any system, under any coach....I can't give Angelo too much credit for Urlacher's success in regards to Urlacher. If Angelo perhaps would have given into Nick Saban a bit more into what Saban wanted---that could have been scary what Saban could have done for Urlacher. *Angelo failed to draft a franchise player. Bottom line. He traded for Culter (which was great) but it cost us multiple 1st Round Picks to do it. Angelo never drafted a Peppers type to put next to Urlacher....he had to sign him to a boat load of money (which was also great). Angelo hit a few home runs in Tommie Harris, Lance Briggs, Charles Tillman to put next to Urlacher.......but he never hit a grand slam. He had 10 drafts to do it, but failed to do so. *I believe the Sam Hurd fiasco mattered. Say what you will....but if you believe it didn't matter...it still should have. In regards to the Bears deciding to keep Lovie while firing Jerry Angelo is an absolute mistake. I believe Lovie should be back as it isn't his fault Cut/Forte went down totally screwing his offense. Lovie has done a great job these past two years in coaching this football team and should be brought back. With that being the case- Angelo should be back as well as Lovie and Jerry have continuity in what they're trying to do. If either guy has to go- the other should go. If either has to stay- the other should stay. We want our new GM to be able to hire HIS guy and not live with someone else's. Let us not forget Angelo was forced to keep Jauron and how that potentially set back Angelo's rebuilding process. We shouldn't do that to our next GM.

FWIW- Gabe Carimi's father is a doctor in the Madison, WI area.... Madison is known for having some of the best doctors in the word and if he is in their hands at this point- that is a very very good sign. Lets not forget our organization screwed the pooch on Colombo's injury...glad Gabe went outside and got a 2nd opinion on this one. After all, it's his leg.

Eh, we'll see what happens. KO's people may tell KC he wants Chicago and won't play for them before this waiver claim....who knows, but I believe that to be very possible. The timing of this is absolutely unreal for him not to be wanting Chicago. In regards to us wanting to pick up KO or not...the answer to that should be an absolute HELL YES. I am of the opinion that Hanie is very very bad. If Martz has to water it down so much to the point where we're blend behind a vet....we're better that way than we are behind Hanie who knows the offense IMO. Besides, Orton would need need at least the rest of practice this week and next week, but at least he'd be getting acclimated against familiar comp. Just my .02...

I'm here to circle the wagons.......... just not right at this minute. I'll get over this, but it's tough to deal with for now. Regardless, the Bears were potenitally a top 5 team in the NFL with Cut and I believe they can rebound from this. Lovie has showed great immediate leadership and playoffs are still very possible for our boys.

I agree the WRs didn't help Cut as much as they could have. The Sanzenbacher ball really upset me as that would have been a 1st Down and we could have avoided the Forte fumble, which was a monster play. Cut also missed some throws (his first pass attempt off of the PA at mid-field where he threw it behind Roy was a great route/call that Cut flat out missed). I don't want to eat Roy Williams' lunch for missing that bomb, either. It's hard to catch a ball you can't see....the coverage was good and prevented Roy from making the play IMO. I do agree with your sentiment that Cut's stats could have been a lot better if a few WRs would have made plays for him.
