  1. I hope they take a deep look at Long. I know there are a few posters here that aren't thrilled at the idea of Long, but my friends in Florida say Long just got sick of everything having to do with the Fish and that he's actually a Beast. If Long is brought in to play LT and they maybe swung Ja Webb to RT while maybe attempting to develop Carimi at RG, keeping Garza at C and drafting a new LG to compete with Louis as he comes back may not be a terrible overall solution. I would still prefer Webb to be a backup swing T as I believe that is what he is best suited for. Just my .02.
  2. A lot of that has to do with Cutler being a bit of a jedi-ninja, though. Seriously, this whole offensive line needs to be turned over in some way shape or form. Everytime 6 dropped back and planted his foot he didn't have the luxury of actually scanning the field, but running for his life. When Cut rarely did have time to scan the field....he was deadly.
  3. Nothing against Toub, but I'd rather they not even entertain the notion of retaining a previous coach from the prior staff as HC. I wouldn't mind them retaining a big chunk of this coaching staff to keep their jobs, but not as the HC. A new voice from the outside is needed to lead this team.

    New Bears Coach

    Thank you for this.
  5. O'Brien has a $9 Million buyout....I'd have to think he'd be a long shot due to that. Shanahan is a name that hasn't gotten nearly enough credit for a job as he isn't just daddy's boy in Washington. He called the shots on offense in Houston for years and did a great job there. McCoy will absolutely be a HC somewhere next year and it may very well be here.
  6. The only problem I have with this is you're in the same hand basket you were with Lovie then. If he finds an offensive guy that finally makes it work in Chicago- they'll be a HC somewhere else before long and then we'll be looking for another OC. I'd rather have an offensive minded HC this time around seeing we have a Pro Bowl QB, RB and WR.
  7. He is far from my first choice..... but he'd be the next Ditka as far as emotions go.
  8. Its actually quite easy to understand....here it goes.... Lovie and Tice are idiots.
  9. I agree with everything said except this. Everything Cut has gotten this year he's pretty much gotten on his own or by having Marshall bail him out. Its tough to declare a definitive bad evaluation on a QB if everytime he plants his foot to throw he has to start running from defenders. Cutler can play and the organization knows that.....but it may be the only thing they know.

    GoodBye

I'd fire Lovie tomorrow, promote Marinelli to HC and Bates to OC for the rest of the season and see what happens. This mess of an offensive line goes beyond Jerry Angelo...Mike Tice and Lovie have vouched for this unit for years and they should lose their jobs over it. Darryl Drake should also be fired immediately. He's claimed Hester to be a #1 WR for years and has stated he'd put his job on it....well don't the let the door hit you on the way out.
  11. I'm actually hoping the Bears just re-tool the roster around Cutler/Marshall/Forte next year. Am I the only person who regrets the Bears giving Forte the dollars he got? Regardless- the defense will eventually need to be turned over....I feel our defense is the Celtics of the NFL only without the ring.
  12. I actually think Pep has been very good. Teams can't run at him and his pressure has been better than what his sack total indicates. We can't discount that Pep has played through plantar faciitis all year.
  13. I don't think ANYONE stated Peppers never wanted to play as on OLB in a 3-4 or wouldn't want to.... I just feel he's better suited playing the role of JJ Watt instead of Clay Matthews at this point in his career is all.
  14. I agree. Beast is still one of my favorite players (was before coming to Chicago), but he should have waited until after the game and see how he fared before jaw jacking. Also- why would any team EVER cover him 1 on 1. We all know they won't and it is almost a big time for chance for AJ to have a monster game as he'll see one on one coverage with very little help.
  15. Angelo may very well still be in Chicago (thankfully he isn't) had he fired Lovie after Cut's 1st season in '09. 2010 was fools gold and we all knew it...that stuck us with two more years of Lovie.
  16. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/...ollege-football What about Chip Kelly bringing the spread offense to Chicago? Yeah I know Vegas odds would probably be 1000:1 considering we wouldn't pay Kelly top dollar to come...but if you ask me it would be worth the gamble for the Bears. They're about to re-build their defense anyway and this would give Cutler his first legit offensive mind in Chicago. The Bears having Cutler, Marshall and Forte already in the fold would be a good start for that type of offense.
  17. You pretty much summed up why Peppers is better suited to be a DE in a 3-4 rather than an OLB.....3-4 years ago yes he would have been like a house on fire- but not now. I may be selling Pep short as he's played all year with plantar fasciitis. Regardless he's closer to being Watt at this point in his career than he is to an Orakpo.
  18. It would almost be cost prohibitive to play a 3-4 and have Peppers play DE as you could almost sign an UFA and pay them to seal off the corner on one side in the system. Its almost the style DE DJ had in his 4-3 where he had DT type guys playing DE. I think Peppers would do well in a 3-4 as DE- as he may compare favorably to Watt at that position. Regardless the Bears COULD have a descent starting point to switch to a 3-4 with Peppers/Melton at DEs to go along with SMC as an OLB. The rest of the front 7 is totally up for debate however. I do think our S would have a lot of issues in a 3-4 simply because they're not fast at all....they'd be ask to cover more than sit in a soft cover like they do now.
  19. I understand it absolutely won't happen, but.... this is all the more reason why I believe Lovie's job SHOULD be on this game and if he loses he should be gone on Monday w/ Marinelli stepping in for the rest of the year.
  20. I don't think that would be an easy transition at all. I do believe Tillman would benefit from it better than any Bear as it would allow him to play more bump and run/be as physical as possible. Tillman has been another that has been hurt by the Lovie defense....I concede that he has had a wonderful year this season- but this system as made Tillman show his talents after the WR catches the ball versus showing his ball skills while the ball is in the air. I would be curious to see how we would switch over to a 3-4....we'd need a brand new NT to play inside (a Raji type w/o the dancing). I would think you'd move Briggs inside, but he would struggle much like Hawk for GB does (if you disagree ask any Packer fan what they think of Hawk). I would move Melton out to DE in the 3-4, which I'd think he'd be perfect for. It may be against popular opinion, but I'd make Peppers a DE in the 3-4 as well and NOT an OLB. Think about it. I don't think you'd find a better fit than a 6'7'', 285lb DE at this point in his career to be a DE at the 3-4...only problem it takes away from an extremely gifted pass rusher. Wooten would be useless, SMC seems ideal as an OLB in a 3-4, but certainly could bust there as well. I'll jump on to a 3-4 idea as the Bears potentially rebuild their defense only because I've hated the passive/laid back schematics on defense in Lovie's tenure. With all of that being said- Lovie can hang his hat on ungodly numbers his defense has put up, but I still feel as if they've underachieved other than '05 and '06.

    From PFW...

But the coaching staff has Webb at LT and oozes soooo much potential. I'm a die hard Badger fan, but Carimi looks like a bust to me.
  22. If the Bears lose Sunday at home to the Pack AGAIN- I'd fire him then and allow Marinelli to finish out the year as HC. Just my .02.
  23. Yup. Lovie should have been fired after '09 after Cut's first year. Angelo could have brought in an offensive mind to help build around Cutler. Instead, even though JA isn't here anymore, we're in that "hand basket" of probably hiring Cut's 4th OC in 5 years.
