Thought this was going to happen. Tomlin seemed consistent saying Wilson was the starter.
-
But if late in the season they for some reason aren't in playoff contention - I could see them not playing Field(s) to make sure they don't give up a 4th rounder.
-
That is the key though - win the next 2 and he probably gets another 2 tough ones for benefit of the doubt. How many more starts does he need to get the 4th round pick?
-
If they lost today Wilson was starting - no doubt about it in my mind.
-
Im glad they won - I like Justin and I also want that higher draft pick :).

This is fun. I know they have a brutal second half of the year and still have work to do - but man this team has been fun to watch these past few weeks. Please let this be for real and just the very very beginning of something super magical!!!!

Two things can be true. Caleb can be a really good rookie and end up being a stud as can Daniels. I don’t care who is better at this point - just that Caleb becomes great and I love what I have seen 6 weeks in. Daniels is a bad ass too and easy to root for. That Washington game after the bye is going to be nuts. Two stud rookie qbs.

Jags can put up points though. They are going to fling it. This is a game where Jags are going to be throwing it - so Bears D has to be hitting Lawrence and creating turnovers. On flip side Bears need to mitigate the penalties and Caleb hopefully can mitigate turnovers on his side and make enough chunk plays. Bears need to continue to push the ground game, but liked how they mixed things up a lot this week. It was progress - but we had penalties cost them a first down and a touch down in the game. Might have been more - but those were 2 that stood out. Also a key drop by Moore costing them a 1st down too. So there was 1 drive we had to settle for 3 (vs. 7) and 2 drives that stalled out in good field position for punts because of offense's inability to execute. Got to build on that - cause against better teams, you can't overcome those mistakes. But the progress was huge. I think this is going to be a real tough game - Jags are clinging to hopes if they win this one they can turn some momentum on in a relatively weak division. Let's go Bears!!! Let's see more of this continued positive momentum from our Bears!!!

I hope they stick with Justin - not just for the Bears sake but for Justin's sake. Give him the season with that team and see if he can be good enough. Wilson isn't it and there is no long-term in Wilson if you are Steelers. With those 3 teams coming up - if Justin stays in, I see them going 2-1.

Which was the right decision - don't do anything in '24 that might put '25 and '26 and beyond at jeopardy. The one spot they might have done that is being cheap on the oline. Hopefully not though and they have a lot of options and ways to potentially fix it next year - both via draft and free agency (knowing that Keenan will give you flexibility). I also want to be cautious that he holds / sticks to his guns and keeps his draft picks at this year(s) deadline (unless a total stud olinemen was available). You can get good players with that Panther(s) pick and they are also cost controlled - than leverage the Keenan flexibility when he leaves so you can see what else you do there (as I presume Keenan will be one and done and than become a comp pick a year down the road).

Dallas would be who I'd look to trade him to. They need a RB big time.
-
That was a tough penalty - probably cost us points as we had a big 1st down conversion on that play and I think ended up punting instead post penalty.

Last week he actually came out a few days after his Monday score interview and indicated that he actually saw a lot better progress when he rewatched the tape...so was more complimentary of the Colts game later on in the week than the beginning of the week. This week I actually thought I saw the same thing - I didn't see as much growth in Caleb this week - but he also didn't make the bad throw. I'll also note, growth isn't always linear. I do disagree that he is a one read QB - he clearly is going through a number of progressions - whether he always trusts them and his feet along with it - absolutely not, but very rare for a rookie QB to be able to do that and the Bears are putting him out there with zero training wheels (hopefully that doesn't backfire - I think Caleb has the thick skin and swagger needed to deal with the increased frustrations that will come from that approach - but hopefully not using training wheels allows him to reach his potential quicker).

On the hold's too long - I think he was top 7 through 3 games in NFL in terms of average time to throw...so he has not been holding it long. Not sure where he falls after week 4. -

I actually think he wasn't as good getting the reads out on time in this game vs. the week before. But with that said - there was a sequence early in 1H where he was sacked on like back to back plays, I think both might have been holding penalties on the defense. On those plays - I wondered if he held long because of the "holding" but those were some times where it looked like he was double clutching vs. get to the back of his drop and let it fire. At same time - the TD pass and the pass to Kmet over the middle of the field were both beautiful reads as well as throws. And he used his check down's well. I think in the Colts game, 2nd half when they got rolling with tempo, I liked that there were a lot of throws where he was back of his drop and firing. Either way - I do think he is the type of QB who can handle the "Peyton Manning" treatment they are putting him throw. It is clear they are giving him the key(s) and the rope and letting him learn the complex system out of the gate vs. babying this thing along. I also think Daniels could be great or even better - none of that matters anymore as a Bears fan and Daniel(s) success or struggle(s) have no bearing on what Caleb accomplishes (or doesn't accomplish). Thus far though through 4 weeks he's looked different than any rookie QB I have seen the Bears have (and I say that in a good way - clearly a LOT to still go - but for where he is - he's definitely better than the past...and hopefully he keeps building week after week and ends up being the greatest QB of all time for the Bears (and more broadly). -

Shoot…not that it says a lot…this was 11th most passing yards in a single game in franchise history.
-
This was huge progress. Mistakes sure but 363 yards…most by a Bears qb in 16 years. Oh and until Dak surpassed him it was the most yards in the NFL in any one start. Caleb has work and he will make mistakes but he is learning and I’m excited. I said in this first quarter of the season I wanted a 300 yard game…box checked…next up a 3TD game.
-
Caleb had another game with continued progress. 360+ yards in his 3rd game. Did he make mistakes…yep, but he also had a number of really good throws and with anticipation. I’ll take this loss over the week 1 win any day of the week at this point in Caleb’s career. Swift and Waldron and oline better get stuff together. At least they are using Roschon and Kmet more and ROME had some solid plays.
