  1. That was a copout. He audibled out of like 3 plays over a 2 game span. Even if we ran those balls we still would have had an awful rush to pass ratio. I think Trestman was throwing Jay under the bus and Jay wasn't happy with it. Jay has also been more vocal lately about what he wants to do and likes which is something he hadn't done much at all during the Trestman era. However, if you look back to the Tice / Martz era, Jay was again very vocal. I don't know if it is Jay or just Jay finally saying screw this I'm done with this crap coaching staff. Not saying either are good answers but if Jay has been going all cavalier for the entire season and most of last year, the message should have been sent a long time ago and again goes to our failures as an organization. I will caveat that all of this is based on hearsay but Clayton is a very good NFL reporter.
  2. To me it again speaks to the lack of leadership at the top.
  3. http://sportsmockery.com/2014/11/report-ja...nearly-benched/ Interesting. Again, if this is the case, it really makes you wonder who okayed the Cutler deal. Did Emery basically tell Trestman this is what we are going to do and you will like it? If any coach would accept that, it would probably be Trestman who is very passive as a whole.
  4. I think Emery is an excellent scout but not a good GM. I think Trestman isn't a good head coach. I think our organization lacks real leadership and direction and that is a critical element giving the narrow margin between win / loss in this league (or unfortunately for us, the large margin in many of our losses).
  5. Great post and I truly hope the Bears fans give Lovie a standing ovation tomorrow. He deserves it. Once the whistle blows we want to beat those Bucs good but my respect and admiration for Lovie is high and I'm very appreciative to how the organization was run during his tenure. Could we have been better, certainly, but we always showed up to play.
  6. The Vikings are not good. I didn't see much anything that makes me think we have solved any of our major issues, etc. I would be extremely irritated if we rationalized not making a change at this point. If we finish out the season on a long winning streak and playing good football, then maybe I can get on board, but it is going to take a lot, especially because I have very gaping concerns about the organization as a whole.
  7. Bill this is the same point a few of us have discussed already and what you are saying is completely accurate and really it is mindblowing. I really have zero faith in this organization at this point and believe drastic changes from the top down have to be made.
  8. I know bagging on him became popular, but I thought this was a very good read. I also will caveat it by saying I always was a fan of Lovie so I am inherently biased but I felt that he was the time of guy you could be proud your organization had and there is something to be said about that and how he handled the lockeroom, etc. We sorely miss that sort of leadership qualities from the top. I don't think anyone in our front office, Emery or Trestman, have the types of intangible leadership top of the totum pole skills necessary to excel in their current positions. http://chicagosuntimes.com/sports/revered-...bears-listened/
  9. I completely agree. I think it starts with hiring Bill Polian or a Bill Polian type to be the president. I think they should do it now so that the individual can get his chance to see how everything is going and then be in a good position to make decisions in the offseason.
  10. If Harbaugh is out there, not getting him would be a bad answer. I was the guy who was so pissed we didn't hire Andy Reid. I found it pure lunousy that we weren't interested in a guy who was one of the best coaches in the entire league. Just seemed too easy to have a candidate like that out there. I feel the same way if Harbaugh is truly available. Pay him whatever he wants. IF he isn't, there won't be any proven / established NFL commodities out there. The only guy who legitimately might want to coach who had extended success is Shanny. I will say the more Washington is a disaster the more I give Shanny the benefit of the doubt. I do not think Cowher / Gruden are going to coach. I do no think anyone else is what I'd go after and after Smith gets fired in Atlanta, I won't be interested because his team has had the same problem our team has had from an underachievement perspective.
  11. I agree with you. I think Bowles would fit the bill, the question is who would he be bringing as an OC.
  12. Thought this was a good summary of him. What I liked is how he worked as a UDA to make it. Then worked in personell and got some scouting perspective until moving into the coach ranks. Love the aggressive D and aggressive mind-set and the results have been very encouraging. Big question to me is how does he lead and does he have a big picture vision that is necessary to be a head coach.
  13. You hit on a few things, but who is our leader period? I don't know that we have one in our head coach nor in the rest of the players. Otherwise pretty accurate assessment. I would argue our run D has been pretty solid all year though.
  14. To be honest, outside of the unrealistic guys (Gruden / Saban), I don't like that list at all. Shanny is the only guy I would think about. Those are not names who are remotely top 10 guys to go after at all, imo.
  15. I have no interest in McDaniels. I don't think his personality works as a head coach. I want Bowles or Harbaugh.
  16. I think Tennessee would be interested, presume the Rams might be as well. Maybe even Houston.
  17. I would expect their offense to struggle. They have not been able to keep a QB in the game and even their top QB, Palmer, isn't very good. Bowles is a guy I've been touting and am all over. I want to rebuild this defense and our franchise and I think Bowles would be an outstanding hire.
  18. This would be amazing. I wonder if the titans are one of those teams?
  19. Alright, lets go boys. As much as I hate it, we'd still be better off if all of a sudden we started putting up 40 per game the rest of the season.
  20. All a moot point because he isn't going to leave the Colts for Chicago anyway. He is viewed as one of the top execs in the business though and it would be a major coup to hire him, but again, not happening.
  21. Well you'll see my whole point is I don't want Emery making another decision. He is a steaming pile of turd. I want us to bring in good football people at the top and then make that decision. 5 years ago, I'd have been all over Shanny, now, I don't know how much I like that hire. I think I'd rather go with Bowles to be honest. That said, Redskins are a mess of an organization.
  22. That is the question to me. If the Bears think Shanny is the right man for the job, period, fine, go get him, but do not hire him to cater to Jay. If Shanny wants Jay, great, if he doesn't, great. Personally I would be okay with a defensive coach who could come in and hire the right offensive guy and really get the defense rebuilt. Find an OC who will focus on the line and ground game while still taking advantage of Jay / other weapons and we can draft someone more long-term but reinvent the D. I'm thinking Bowles or whatever his name from the Cardinals would be a very good get (as long as he has the clout to bring in a very good offensive mind). I also am clearly on board with Harbaugh. I think the first step starts with bringing Polian into some sort of adviser role to basically oversee this mess, get a gauge for what is going on and then making recommendations to the McCaskeys about who needs to be let go of, etc. Start that process now and then at the end of the year, I'm okay upgrading Polian into a president role and then bringing on a GM who he sees fit and letting them pick the coach.
  23. If the front office thinks Shanny is the right guy for the job, great, hire him, but I do not want it to be because of Jay.
  24. My issue here is are we hiring the best coach or are we hiring the only guy with a good track record who would be willing to come here? It seems to me if we bring anyone in, it should be who we think is the right guy long-term. We've bet on Jay too long. If whomever we bring in still uses Jay for the next couple years, great, if we win with him, great, if not, I want whomever we brought being the person we think is the right long-term man for the job. I also can't buy into any situation in which Emery relied solely on Trestman to sign Jay to big money. Don't believe it for a second. The same GM who controlled pretty much every coach Trestman hired. And if he did, poor decision. You don't want out those type of contracts without being 100% on board as well (as an organization too). The reality is our organization has made poor decisions. We need to hire whomever is best and let them do what they want with Jay, period. That is from the GM on down and in my opinion should also involve someone stepping into a role above the GM as well (maybe a bill Polian).
  25. I'll at least give Mel credit for how he answered and responded to the media today. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...1112-story.html
