I really don't want to continue catering to Jay. I realize we paid him a lot of money but at this point we need to start moving forward as an organization and bring in fresh perspectives and a new regime. If they stick with Jay while building defense and other areas (and drafting a young QB), great, if not, that is fine too.

How does Mel Tucker not get fired yesterday?
DABEARSDABOMB replied to Chitownhustla's topic in Bearstalk
If you are going to get rid of someone, at this point, it should be the head coach. See if the bigger problem is the tone at the top. I still think the biggest problem is Emery and everything he has done (or pretty much everything). I think him and Trestman are total disasters as are the significant bulk of coordinators that EMERY brought in. Emery brought in a puppet coach so he could try to control everything and Trestman was the only guy willing to do that and that type of personality won't succeed as a HC in the NFL. Players won't respect him, people won't do all the little things necessary, etc. -
#Bears coach Marc Trestman says Jay Cutler has to play better & mistakes he's making in games r not happening in practice. Is it as simple as saying that even our defense makes our offense look good?
-
Thought that quote pretty much summed things up.
-
I think that makes total sense. Reality is if Trestman is fired now, all of the assistants will likely be gone, but it does give Emery a shot to say, see it was the bad coach and I told you that and yes I made the mistake to hire but I've learned from it and noticed it early and solve it. I don't think that will happen and I think the quickest way to get back to respectability is getting rid of everyone this off-season.
-
I don't think firing a coach solves much and think if something were to happen, it should have been Trestman. See what new leadership can bring and if they play decent, hello new head coach and Emery stays. Play bad and Emery goes along with everyone else too (they are likely gone anyway under new HC). Sticking with everything the same doesn't make sense but firing one guy below Trestman doesn't change things given the fact that I fully believe our biggest problems first and foremost start with our leaders in the front office, QB, and on the coaching staff (along with players obviously).

While I realize Briggs shouldn't be opening his mouth, I think its more of a player of his legacy who is on his last legs, has been out hurt, looking at things and saying, wow, there is no possible way to fix this and this would not have happened under previous regimes for whatever reason (probably a lot of it has to do with how bad our coaches are along with roster issues as well). It isn't like Briggs tore Lovie apart when Jauron was replaced. Again, not defending Briggs cause he's still a current member of the team and needed to do whatever he could and it would appear he just never bought in and never did. At the same time, organization should have noticed that and made the necessary changes. Fact that Emery wastes time analyzing and fact checking reporters comments is pretty sad in and of itself (all to defend and make a stupid comment as to why Jay is elite).
-
I was more referring to their recent treatment of coaches more then anything else.
-
Worst coaching, worse front office, etc. All the way down. Players not bought in, basic mistakes, basic scheme. Its just awful. It is why there has to be a fresh start all the way through the organization.
-
It all starts with a clean slate. This organization needs to bring in new football people from the top down. Case closed. We will not get to the next land without doing that. No clue whether they make the right decision but our current crew is incapable of doing so and I hope we continue to play this bad so it makes it very easy for everyone in the league and ownership to understand why the decision has to be made (so no one has to fear about looking like the Browns or Raiders).

And more indicators of Trestman not getting it
DABEARSDABOMB replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
I agree with you guys but I also think it is pathetic how our head coach has handled this. He continues to not get it. By the way, great post AZ. -

DABEARSDABOMB replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
Talks about how Briggs talked about how he just looks at the clock during meetings to see when it will finally end, etc. Also goes on to talk about how Trestman just doesn't understand discipline and is just so blaze regarding how to send messages to players and the lockeroom, etc. Bottom line, it demonstrates his overall lack of leadership in the sense of what it takes to lead a football team as the head coach. -

Did anyone see Trestman's quotes this week
DABEARSDABOMB replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
Tresty is probably the quickest thought but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that of all of them, he had probably the most pathetic track record from the standpoint that most of his recent successes in a league that mattered were over a decade ago. Lovie was a good candidate, Wanny was a legendary coordinator and well thought of, Jauron was pretty well respected (albeit we all thought we were hiring someone else). Trestman was totally out of left field and at the time there was Andy Reid, Chip Kelly, Mike McCoy, and Bruce Arians...all guys with a recent track record of success. -
Especially when he had a QB named Steve Young who ran his system with a lot of success while leveraging the bootleg. It also is yet another mechanism to help your line as you don't allow defensive lineman to really know where the pocket is going to be.

Did anyone see Trestman's quotes this week
DABEARSDABOMB replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
I want to point out. I don't care how loud our coaches scream or how calm our coaches are. I just found it laughable that he legimately thought he needed to tell the team that its okay, i evaluated all the film and we practiced hard. I just don't think that is a key message. I think the message we keep sending is things aren't as bad as they appear. That may be fine and dandy but we have done a lot of things to lead to this point in the season and a lot of them need to be corrected. I just don't see Trestman as a leader or at least not one that can lead and be the head coach of an NFL team. I hope I am wrong. PS: I am dead serious. I just want best coach; quiet and even keeled or ticked all the time, I don't really care, just be good and win. -
Specifically the one where he mentioned that during the bye week the coaches and him analyzed practice film and decided and told the team that they practiced hard and blah blah blah and that everyone was working hard to fix the problem and we'd get through it. Are you really kidding me. You decided you were going to tell the team, don't worry, I looked at our practice tape and decided that we are all practicing hard and blah blah blah and that all of the coaches are putting in the time, etc. No wonder he is losing the clubhouse. I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face if that was one of the key message points after the break. You'd think it would go, we analyzed a lot of things and have a plan. While we think we are working hard, we know we need to fix the following and have ideas of how to fix it and it can be done. If you want past examples, look at teams X and Y (NY Giants who won a superbowl, etc). Talent is here but we need to do the following, be more disicplined, protect the football, blah blah blah and here is how we are going to do it and we are all going to recommit to it, etc.

Ok...I agree this is a good sign but the bigger question why is it we are first looking into this a year and a half into Trestman's tenure.
-
Yes, we have had a tough schedule but that doesn't mean we can ignore some of the brutal excuses and issues that have happened and have lead to losses. We can't also ignore the fact that the front office have made some very detrimental decisions that put us in a very difficult position to contend these next few years (mainly Cutler and hiring Trestman).

I've lost it...we really are ran by a bunch of clowns
DABEARSDABOMB replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
Very good article below with commentary from an ex front office guy and Cowher. Insights have a lot to do with massive issues on roster construction and they blast our oline as well. In summary, Bears problem has more to do with the fact that our defense and special teams are putrid and the personel moves have been bad. We missed the boat on most of our FA signings this year and even last year didn't get the impacts we expected. We also seemed to miss the boat in the evaluation of guys we brought back / opted not to replace (e.g., any of our linebackers). Those things can't be excused. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...1029-story.html Again, I am coming more and more to the conclusion that we have the wrong people running the show and need a total overhaul. Pay the money to bring in proven football people and let them run this franchise. -

Absolutely. It is kind of crazy that they didn't. Now maybe Rod didn't give any indication but Rod is a pretty upstanding guy so I'm fairly certain he would have said, most likely I will be moving on or something along those lines. -

By the way, if anyone can't read the article, here is the trick. Paste the link in google and then click on it through there and then you will be able to read it. -
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...028-column.html That is absurd and just ridiculous. Again, Arians had an actual clue (as did the other top candidates) of reality where the Bears clearly didn't and they ended up hiring the one coach, desperate enough for a position, and out of touch of the reality that was the friendship between Rod and Lovie. The fact that Emery and others were so surprised just tells you how out of touch they were with the reality of the situation. Again, I say, a bunch of clowns, and for those that know my posting history, I'd like to think I'm pretty even keel by and large (with exception to Tucker and Joey D who I've consistently bashed since midway through last year and for good reason).
-
I agree with you. Unless there is a scheme issue or something else driving his poor play, it seems to me that any pick for him doesn't make much sense. And if it is a scheme issue, I don't have any faith in our coaches to solve it here either.
-
Completely agree with this post and your thoughts on Trestman. He appears to be so far in over his head. It also appears that Emery is as well.
