  1. For those that talk about the smoke with Harbaugh. People don't like them, thats okay. He isn't a bad person and he expects a lot of out his players and a professional attitude and his teams have performed very well. He took a horrible team and since he came in they have done nothing but win. We could only be so lucky. In fact, I'll go as far as compare him to Belliceck with the exception that the Niners ownership is more meddling then Kraft is with Belli. A lot of people don't necessarily like playing for Belliceck but you either buy into the Patriot way or you are out. The results speak for themselves. By the way, Chitown, great post. The first 4 points are just spot on, especially #4. Emery can not be absolved for these failures. He is just as much a part of them as Trestman. I also agree with you the best thing for this franchise is the offense gets rolling and kicks ass and the defense / st stink. It means we still have a QB that is semi worth the money and can really focus an off-season on bringing in a new DC and continuing to rebuild the defense vs. having to rebuild everything while being saddled with some horrendous cap blows (such as the Cutler contract).
  2. One thing I will say that about Allen is that he is an upstanding guy.
  3. This is from Biggs trib article, 10 thoughts, which is usually one of my favorite reads. I really like Herring and I said all off-season that our LB corps were total stinkers and was a huge position of need. I'd say it is the weakest position on the entire roster. Herring would seem to agree. I bolded one part for added emphasis.
  4. Let me ask you this. Are you happy with the results from Houston and Allen thus far? I for one am not and that was a lot of money spent on those two players in particular. Are you happy with the talent we have at the LB position? I am not. I will give him credit for the Fuller pick and it appears our dlinemen we drafted are improving but even if you look back to last years draft, you still are looking at a lot of players that aren't that great (outside of Long). That said, I think Bostic and Greene stink so for those that don't, they might think last years draft to be a bit better.
  5. My plan is similar to yours ML. It starts with hiring Harbaugh. If that means Emery brought him in, fine. If that means he is the GM, as much as i don't like the idea of a coach / GM, I am okay with that. The culture of this organization needs to change at the top. If Jim wants to keep Cutler, fine, in Jim I'll trust, but my preference would be to end this experiment (unless our offense ends up finishing up very strong and it turns out we need to focus on defense / special teams which in theory would be much more ideal cause it would leave us with a lot less dead cap space). Right now though, Cutler & Marshall have to be gone as do our entire coaching staff. We have failed in all three phases and it isn't because of a lack of talent. That is why I debate keeping / cutting Emery. That said, when Emery went so far outside the establishment to hire his head coach, he too was taking a much bigger risk. All this said, somehow we'll beat the Packers this week, haha. This is the worst I've felt about our franchise since the Wanny / Jauron era.
  6. It has kind of came out subsequently that we are talking about 2 particular runs turned to pass so we'd have 4 vs. 2, which isn't a big deal. It seems that the bigger issue is the predictability of our play calls and the fact that Cutler might be staring down the targets as well. Both of which are problems, one of which is on coaching, the other on our team. Trestman also seemed to indicate the problem wasn't with the audibles, rather, he just wanted to focus more on the rushing the ball regardless of the looks they saw. Excellent point regarding the bootleg. I have never understood why we don't maximize and design more plays to do this, but for whatever reason, we don't.
  7. We have given Jay this money and need to use him. We need to try and get the most out of him. Talent is clearly there, we'll see on production. It is year 2 in this sytem and they can't ignore that fact. We should see progress. Ups and Downs will happen but we need to see long-term progress. Lets see how he responds to the adversity but given the financial commitment, going to Claussen now would be a downright disaster. Our chance of being competitive the next 2 years rests on Jay. If the year really goes down the tubes, then we draft a QB early and evaluate how much of these failures are on Jay vs. how much are on Jay & Trestman.
  8. He didn't directly say it, but reading between the lines, it would appear that the QB was calling an awful lot of pass plays vs. rushes. I still then say, who was not calling the deep balls in the first 5 games cause that certainly wouldn't appear to be Jay's style. I wonder when we see Trestman get more involved in the play calling. Remember, last year he called the plays and this year I believe it is Kromer. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/30556527-41...ml#.VEaGk_nF92I

    Fuller

Trestman seemed to indicate that Fuller could play through the hand injury. Hip pointer is the more serious issue and is actually what took him out of the game.
  10. If what we continue to see happen continues, I chalk it up to many different things, but some of it is an overall lack of leadership and that falls on Trestman. We are looking more and more like the Raiders in our lack of fundamental execution, despite having talent.
  11. I would be 1000% on board with hiring Harbaugh.
  12. I'd be okay with new defensive / st coordinators if the offense looked good and you don't have clubhouse issues. However, if the offense looks bad too, well then I'm not ignoring that. We also are one of the dumber teams in the leagues or maybe that is just my personal opinion but there are too many failures in all three phases to ignore the coach. He either gets it cleaned up this year or he's out of a job. Great man and good guy but he appears in over his head as a HC.
  13. 2 running plays in the first half, including not running on a 3rd and 1. It is pathetic and I've called it out numerous times and how we continue to ignore the rushing attack. It doesn't work and this is on whomever is calling the plays.
  14. They all need to go. If we fire Trestman, we fire / get rid of Jay or sit him on the bench. I don't care which. They have the rest of the season to fix things but if the offense continues to play this poorly and not score points, then they all lose jobs. If offense is productive and top 10, then I can live with another year of Trestman, however, It is looking more and more like the rest of the league knew what they were doing and their was a reason he never got that head coaching gig. I hope he proves us wrong.

    Fuller

Everyone would need to lose their jobs. I think Jay would as well. I don't want Cutler around for another coach.

    Fuller

What we can say is we are a poorly disciplined poorly prepared team. We consistently don't show up and play inconsistent football. We have basically turned into the Cowboys and thus far under Trestman that is exactly what we have been, a .500 team. We are getting outcoached and outplayed and the unfortunate part is I don't think we are getting out-talented.
  17. If this continues, Trestman doesn't get year 3 in my opinion. We know he probably will but he won't deserve it.
  18. And our clock management is atrociouis. We literally looked like we had no game plan on either side of the ball. It was pathetic.
  19. And their ST is more related to having horrific kicking (which I put less blame on the coach) and in theory they solved that with Matt Prater. Albeit, Prater did have two misses in his first game but he's proven to be one of the elite kickers in the game. In all other phases, they actually have a solid ST.
  20. On an unrelated sidenote, how bad are the various reporters covering the Bears that they aren't spending more time talking about how dismal the unit is. Instead of wasting all this time complaining about Jay, we should be talking about an entire unit of the football field that has consistently performed horrifically for the past 22 games going back to the start of last season.
  21. Just think about that. That is so detrimental the impact our 3rd phase is having on our team. We are giving our offense a long field to work with while giving our defense a very short field to defend. It is downright pathetic and to rank that low in both areas is just absolutely putting us in a horrendous position. You think about the slim margin of error in a few of our games and it no doubt could have been significantly different if our special teams unit was even league average.
  22. No. That is just another potential excuse to give Joey D time. The penalties we have made are just absurd and Emery has focused on bringing in special teams players during his tenure here. While injuries play some factor in the deal, multiple people have indicated we run one of the most difficult and complex special teams schemes that anyone has ever seen. This is for a unit that typically will see a lot of turnover due to injuries (in the NFL every team suffers from injuries and their ST units have to deal with it). In no world should a special teams unit's schemes being excessively complex given the types of turnover that is TO BE expected in special teams. What we have seen over the past year and a half under Joey D is down right embarrassing. I am not one to throw out a lot of extremes or at least I don't believe I am, however, and to be fair I've been saying this since about week 5 of last year, but I have never seen a stupider worse ran special teams unit in my life and for a full season that was while having Devin Hester and Robbie Gould, who should make almost any special teams coach look decent. It is inexcusable how bad we are from our 3rd phase of the game and how much it kills us. We get destroyed in the field position battle week in and week out and it not only hurts our defense but it hurts our offense as well and I think it plays a large part into why we have had so many yards offensively but not as many points (as we have consistently had to work with long fields). I need both hands and probably feet to count how many times this season (through 6 weeks) that we have backed ourselves between the 0-19 yard line, often times due to us making a penalty and further negating our field position. We honestly would be a better unit if we just stood there and let the other team punt and just had one guy fair catch every time with no one trying to block. I would presume, when you add in penalty yards, we would have a net negative return yards which is just absurdly pathetic. Note: According to footballoutsiders, we are ranked 30th in average starting field position per drive (through Week 5). It will likely be worse through week 6 as our average starting field position was very poor against the Falcons. This is largely driven by our poor special teams and is kind of interesting given the fact that in the Panther game we had a couple turnovers that gave us very short fields yet we still rank this poorly. Also, from the defensive perspective, we rank 31st in average starting field position per drive. Again, much to do with our special teams unit, especially since, contrary to popular belief, we rank right around the league average in turnovers / game.
  23. There are a lot of guys on that list that aren't near as good as Jay.
  24. He has looked good in short bursts. Nice to see.
  25. I've said all along this has been by far the best Jay has ever played the position. He has made very few mistakes in general. Still had he not made them we won, but the play calling in 2nd half of Carolina game, poor special teams, and our offensive players fumbles, our general poor field position to start most drives, and our defense have also been factors. That was most complete game of season but make no mistake, Atlanta dropped a lot of passes. All that said, I'll take it. Huge game against Miami. I'd say a must win given the looming road games against New England and GB.
