  1. I absolutely think he could play safety. I think there are a ton of top corners who would be elite safety's but very few free safety's who would be above average corners. I'm not saying Fuller can't play safety but I don't think we drafted him to play safety. I think he's here to get a lot of playing time (look at our division and the wideouts we go up against and passing attacks) this year and think we'll draft a guy later who we will convert to safety (although we very well might go safety in the 2nd round too). I just think it is easier to find safety then corner and I think it is a more important position. I also wasn't overly sold on Ha Ha, although I like Pryor a lot, I think CB is more important and therefore presume JA had him as the top corner and saw a lot of value in getting him at 14 (vs. a safety).
  2. I will say, I think, if a team were interested (and there may not have been a team willing), I would have moved down. Broke my heart when Donald was picked but I really excited to have a guy who could be an elite corner and having three good corners is going to be very important giving how this is a passing league and we are in a division with two teams that can throw the football.
  3. I like what Browns have done. I really liked getting the CB. I have quietly been pushing CB over safety (in fact had MLB over safety too) and would have taken CB or Mosely over either safety, especially Ha Ha who I think is very overrated. I think in this deep corner draft we'll see Bears select another corner, who they think they can move to free safety. We got a guy who some thought was the top corner in the draft @ 14. I'll take that all day and let Tillman and company help coach him and prepare him. I hope we get another young guy to join the secondary and think it will be a third or 4th rounder that we convert. You can find good safety's late and that guy doesn't have to be a safety as you can teach a corner to be a safety and succeed (and I love the idea of having a guy that is a good cover guy at safety…clearly they have to be able to tackle too).
  4. DT > Safety. i like pick. would have traded down if i could though.
  5. I think that is why I mentioned when you have one guy on the board who you grade out well above everyone else, you don't trade down. When you have multiple guys who grade out similarly, you then trade down.
  6. I think he goes DT / MLB / CB in round 1.
  7. Given the depth of this draft at some key positions of need, I think the organization should consider the anti Ditka and stockpile picks depending on how the scenario's work in round 1. I keep saying it, but if Donald is off the board, unless all of our other key guys are too, I think we move down and I think we could move down a decent number of picks, stockpile additional picks in rounds 2-3 and still get a DT that grades out in the 1st round (or a CB / Safety).
  8. It has worked really well for the Pats over the years. I think it is a great thing and it always worked well for Jimmy Johnson. Reality is you want to accumulate as many good players and the more top 3 round picks you have the better the chances. There are times it doesn't make sense, when you think you have an elite option there, but when you have a handful of guys grading out similarly, the upside of an additional top 3 round pick, often times is worth it, especially when you can get real creative and move a couple times. Looking at the 1st round depth at DT, I think the Bears could move down on two separate occasions and potentially get a tackle that grades out similar to what they would have taken at 14 (again this is assuming Donald is off the board). I don't think either of the safety's available are elite picks. I like the top corners better then the top safety's, however, i won't complain if we take one and will trust what the bears do because it is a position of need.
  9. Haha or Pryor aren't that great of value, imo, and I'd be surprised if one of them wasn't on the board at 18. I also think you have a good chance one of the top CB's are on the board too at 18, plus potential for a LB and you are more comfortable taking one of the non Donald DT's (or further moving down and stock piling picks) knowing you still have a few DT's that you like that you can get even later in the 1st round (while acquiring additional 2nd or 3rd round picks in a deep draft). I don't trade if Donald is on the board.
  10. I take him over either of the safeties on the board. I'd prefer corner as well. I am not a big fan of Ha Ha, especially not at 14.
  11. Not interested. I want a backup that can throw the football.
  12. No 1st year GM is going to lead his head coach, who he inherited, no less, make the 1st round pick on his own.

If DT isn't there and they don't want a CB, then trade down and take a safety (or one of the lesser DT's).
  14. I don't get the Briggs / Urlacher comparisons. Briggs has bitched about one thing, by and large in his career, his contract (from time to time). Usually he complains about once during his span of a contract. Sure he got his tizzy in a bit of a bundle after some key-cuts to some good friends...it happens, but by and large he's always went about his business and been a pro. He also did have his lamborghini mistake and learned from that. Urlacher runs his freaking mouth all the time, including after he's left the team. There is a difference. Urlacher was also the better player but Briggs didn't get near the credit he deserved during what was a very long prime of his career. I hope Briggs still has some good football left with the Bears!!! However...neither of them are Peanut Tillman for me. Not only a great player but a great dude, on and off the field.
  15. Completely agree; And, last I checked, the Bears were the only team to offer Urlacher a contract. How's that for showing at least some loyalty. It wasn't the amount he wanted but it was still more then the rest of the league was willing to offer.
  16. Fully agree; I would have been all over Smith. Desean is a perfect fit (talent wise). Attitude wise, I pass.
  17. I have never had a problem with taking wide receivers with some issues. I always was in on the Ocho / Moss / Owens stuff. However, with Desean, I'd make damn sure i've done my homework. A guy like that with serious gang ties could cause some major issues and I wouldn't want my young players associated with him. However, if it is all being blown out of proportion then that is fine.
  18. I keep thinking Dennard ends up on the Bears. I think it will be him or Donald.
  19. If those guys are off the board, one of the two top CB's are on the board. That is a way more important need then a back-up TE. Especially when we have Marshall, Jeffrey, and Bennett. A speedy receiver is more important and I do think we have a need at wide-out. I like Wilson and Hixon is obviously a depth move but we need another young wideout and I think with our mix we can find someone late and let Bmarsh / Jeffrey groom them.
  20. I'm sorry, there are way too many other BPA's available at need positions to pass. This D needs to get younger. It is significantly upgraded from the unit we had most of last season but youth is a major concern on that side of the football. We need to find Forte's replacement before we need to waste a top pick on a TE. I would put RB / Slot WR / C all ahead of TE. If I'm drafting a TE, it is Fiedoritz or someone else late in the draft (and it would also be because we racked up a few more picks via trade downs). I think Emery is going to get a CB in the first two rounds.
  21. The only real issue is how much the injury prevents him from training and getting himself in as good of shape as possible. The older you are the more important it is to stay and be in tip-top shape. We still need a lot of youth at the position. I don't know that you can peg a 4th rounder to be a regular starter (you want to grab a starter every other type year with those type of picks and get a guy that will be a valuable depth guy), so they still have a need to add more talented youth to the LB corps (again…unless Emery is really high on Shea on the outside). If he is, and you buy into the fact that he likes Bostic outside, then it probably means you focus on MLB. But you do have flexibility with Bostic. I fully expect safety play to improve with a pass rush and better line. And oh by the way, with a better rush d, the safeties can stay out of the box and be in better positions to defend the pass as well. I hope Conte gets his shit back together cause he looked like a real nice safety two years ago. I really don't see us using a first rounder on safety. I could very well see Dennard coming in. I love the idea of a trade down if we like Jernigan / Donald and think we can get one of them later and add in another 2nd round pick (or so). That would be huge.
  22. Good stuff and great quote. I would agree my beef was how non-instinctual he was. Given the speed and transition of the NFL, you would expect quite a bit of improvement in year two and if that was the primary concern, it is ultimately something that can be better. Also, extremely interesting that he ranked so strongly in pass coverage. I think the loss of Briggs and the fact that everything fell on him did put him in a pretty damn difficult position.
  23. In his first draft, he took a DE who busted. 4th round picks are picks that you try to hit on. I agree that he took a linebacker with his 2nd round pick. Plenty of teams draft Dlinemen every single draft within the first few rounds, doens't mean you don't continue to take in the future. Reality is Bears have one linebacker who has proven much anything (including health and even he was hurt late last year) and that is briggs. DJ Williams has had trouble staying on the field the past few years. Bostic is a potential piece still, who should not be considered a bust. Who the hell knows what Shea is and whether he can even play OLB. HE busted in one spot and we are now seeing if he can somehow pan out elsewhere. He was not a 1st round pick as a linebacker. Or are you merely saying he doesn't have any vision / ability to draft LB's?
  24. I still think it is DT / LB / CB (all before safety). Even though I think our safeties suck, I think the other positions are all more important as a whole.
