This will be a tough game. Detroit can put up points. Bears are going to have to play well to beat the Lions (who will be motivated as hell to put up points with Calvin Johnson trying to get 2K yards and then some).
-
I'm in. Lets win, hope the Pack win, and then if everything works out we play San Fran. Kaperneck has had 3 bad games this year (of his 6 or 7 he's played in). That was 2 against the Rams and this past game against the Seahawks. Additionally, he wasn't all that great in a big win over the Saints (the defense was). My biggest issue with this team is turnovers and the complete inabiltiy to make plays on offense (and the stupid offensive penalties). Defense looked much better with Jennings back (and Hayden in the nickel spot).

I really don't think it is the forgone conclusion many people say it is. I think fact of the matter, if the Bears win next week (playoffs or not) Lovie stays. However, I personally think it should be playoffs or bust (and preferably a playoff win) for Lovie to keep his job. If only Lovie could have hired the right offensive mind to be the OC. Either way he's got no one to blame but himself.
-
All that said, the defense is still pretty well built for a 4-3. Lots of quality dlinemen. Not a lot of LB depth.
-
Capers wasn't that bad in Carolina. He only had chances on expansion teams so I would probably be okay giving him another shot, however, the young talent on this team is on the offensive side of the ball, and as far as I'm concerned, there is a lot of talent on this offense (Forte, Alshon, Marshall, and Cutler) when it comes to skill positions, so I want to put that talent with a really good offensive mind. Now if that means bringing in Norv Turner as the OC to support Capers, then I'm all for it.

Now to win next week and have a little luck go our way with Minny losing (or Seattle losing tonight and next week against the Rams).

Bears are getting healthy..they need the Packers to win (and obviously to take care of business) but this weeks team was different defensively having Jennings back and next week it should have Melton back which should really put the pass rush back to where it was earlier in the year. Offensively I don't know what to say...every week I think they'll finally start to click with the timing, etc, but it seems like Jay and some of the wideouts just aren't on the same page (they drop it half the time on big plays and he misses half the time on big plays).
-
Even better. They should have traded him years ago as far as I'm concerned. I hope the Bears look at TE in free agency. I'll put up with Finley's drops (he's a good enough athlete that he'll be enough of a threat to really help the Bears open the field up more). That way the Bears can focus on drafting to get the D younger and of course building up the oline. I think they need to spend money on 1 olinemen in FA (a starter..obviously) plus a TE in FA. Then draft a tackle early (e.g., 1st round) plus find a new MLB early in the draft.

On a sidenote...what a difference having Jennings back makes. Next week they'll have Melton back in the inside too. Defense looked so much better. Hayden moved back to Nickel and thus Moore went back to the bench. What really pisses me off is that Tice actually called a good game but Bears wide-outs again dropped some balls on potential big plays and Cutler missed quite a few big plays as well. That is the problem with this offense, they leave a lot of yards and points on the field. In years past I'd say guys weren't open, this year there have been a lot of times where guys get open for get in a position but then either they drop it or Jay misses. Very rarely do they actually convert and it is why I'm giving Jay one final year to put up or shut up (he needs to take a big step forward next year). Oline gave him plenty of time today and did a pretty good job run-blocking.
-
They were running the clock out. Would be pretty tough to score in the red zone from the 10 when you know you will run it 3 straight times. Personally I would have been practicing plays cause the offense is pathetic in the red zone.
-
If they go 10-6 and miss the playoffs I think there is a pretty good chance Lovie stays.
-
What could game? He was awful. They didn't even get an offensive TD.
-
He's got them to a superbowl and an NFC championship game. I think Lovie could win a superbowl, I just don't know if it will be with the Bears. I don't think Lovie is a bad coach, in fact, I think he's a good coach, but I'm very adamant in the fact that if they can't make the playoffs its time to move in a new direction.
-
I'm sick of hearing people say he sucks as a returner because he's used as a wideout. There have been plenty of games this year where he's barely seen the field as a wide-out and he still sucks.
-
Hester sucks. Him and Davis are going to be gone real quick (cap casualties). Bears need to add a speed receiver in the slot and a TE on offense (in addition to figuring out the line). Other then that, I wouldn't make any changes to offensive personell (outside of coaching...depending on what happens the rest of this season and hopefully the post-season).
-
Huh?
-
Time for the offense to help out that defense. Lets protect the football, force turnovers, run the ball, convert in the redzone. Do that and a win will come!
-
Alright Lovie...go save your job. Win these 2, have things fall your way, make playoffs, get momentum back...shock the league. Lets do this!!!
-
How does that compare to league average and to other playoff teams. I'd be curious.
-
I would too.
-
Maybe if the other team isn't playing physical the whole time, you call those offensive PI. But given the way the game was being played and the amount of contact they were allowing, 2 of the 3 (at a minimum) should not have been offensive PI. They missed the one that should have been. When you watch in slow motion, its hard for me to say that Jeffrey had an advantage due to the shoving. Either way the impression (in fast vision) made things look much worse then they were and that is on Drake. He's got to coach them better.
-
I agree, however, that won't happen with Lovie here (and Lovie doesn't deserve to have the right to hire another OC). I think if the Bears make a hire, they should be hiring an offensive coach. Ideally I'd keep Marinelli, but I doubt he'd stay.

There are only 3 acceptable names: Andy Reid Sean Payton Bill Cowher 4th option: Bruce Arians
-
I will say this. This team has some playmakers. I like Forte, Marshall, and Jeffrey. On top of it, Cutler can make plays (he hasn't been great though; average at best). Need a good system and execution. TE, a speed wideout in the slot, and oline are huge priorities. On defense, got to get younger. Not many major need areas (other then LB and you can always get better dline/cb's). Really I am disgusted because this team should be a playoff team and they should be able to win a playoff game. They have just been too stupid and I think the coaches have to be blamed for that. Arians would be a solid hire but I have a hard time hiring an inexperienced coach. I think this team could and should win and that means I want a coach that I know can do that. Cowher is fine (but it won't happen; he wants to be GM). Payton and Reid are the next best choices. If Lovie stays, I hope he hires Ron's brother, Norv, but we know that won't happen. I'd also be fine with Cam Cameron as an OC.
-
He needs to go. CLearly Tice isn't the answer and you can't let him hire another OC. It sucks cause I really have no problem with Lovie but at some point a change has to be made. Lovie had opportunity after opportunity to hire the right OC and failed miserably in his task. And the most recent search ended up being a complete failure. The Bears offense does so many stupid things that cost drives. Its pathetic. And despite the bad line, for once, it isn't due to talent. This offense has playmakers. It has some pieces of crap too (see Hester, Devin and Davis, Kellen) plus most of the oline.
