I read the opposite on profootball talk. They basically said it had more to do with Jerry bringing in one of his boys than anything else and that basically if Jerry hires his boy the Bears would have Depaul's research plus Jerry's boys research (which was done with the Seahawks) and essentially the club would have 2 weeks to look at both research and make there decisions on who to target in FA.

Sounds like he will be released in St. Louis. I think he'd be a real nice signing for our back-up QB spot (with Hanie as our 3rd stringer). Basically if Cutler went down and we were in contention, you go to Bulger, if Cutler went down and we are out of contention, you go to Hanie.
-
I'd be ok with the move.
-
Interesting. Sounds like we are going to hire the Seahawks former GM to replace Depaul.
-
Nah, I think everyone would agree with you. He is absolutely nothing special. Omilaye is probably going to move to the RT and compete with Shaffer. Usually I'd say we need to do better in that area, but there just won't be any FA options out there. I do think if a veteran guard were to come available, we should consider signing one (since the coaches don't seem to be all that high on Beekman as a starting guard and as a backup he's very valuable).

I personally see the Bears signing two starters on defense, both with the potential to be high impact guys. I'm thinking safety and De are the positions they target and the team will get one of Kapman/Peppers. On the offensive side of the ball, I see the Bears doing very little (Cutler and our young wide-outs should all get better), but they will sign an above average back-up running back who could start (ie, LT/Vikes Backup/Jamaal Lewis, etc). To me I'd be really happy if we did that.

It seems like the Bears might look at making a big splash or two on the defensive side of the ball and I'd be all about that. Peppers or Kapman, plus a safety signing would be huge huge upgrades for the Bears.

To trade or not to trade,That is the question

If you can go out and get a #1 you do it. Otherwise I'm not too interested unless it is a veteran who knows the system and can help our guys without taking much playing time from them (Holt seems to be that guy). No way should WR be a high priority fix though. -
Can we let the man do what he wants please?

He didn't say the line is good though, just that the talent was there and he raved about how he had no doubt Tice will get the line where it needs to be. I still think the Bears sign another guy for the oline though. -

Martz said a day ago that he has more talent on this oline than he has had in years. -
Have we utilized him? Cutler is in love with him and tried to go to him all the time, yet he really failed to get seperation and quite often failed to make the appropriate catches. He improved late in the season but Olsen is about as over-rated as it gets. Yes, he's physically talented and I enjoy having him on our team, but a 2nd round pick would be very valuable given our current situation (no 1st or 2nd) and yes...I'd give up Olsen for that.
-
I'd be 1000 percent for it. I think Olsen is very overrated.

Hester was moved to wide-out because he got a fat contract that paid him a lot more if he developed to be a #1. Thus, Devin wanted it too. And I'm curious to see what Devin does back as a primary return man. I have a feeling we will all be dissapointed.
-
He's a good veteran that can help the Bears on 3rd downs and help teach our WR's a lot of new things. I think he would be a nice pick-up, especially since he knows our offense. And no, he wouldn't be a savior or anything along those lines. Just a solid vet to have on the squad.

Awesome news. Glad to see the hard works paid off and the next set of work is going to be even tougher. Keep up the good work and kick some ass at Northern Ill!!!
-
I like it.
-
Whoa...Peppers is going to get quite possibly the largest contract ever given out to a DE. Kapman will not. Peppers is on another level as Kapman as well. I like Kapman more, but only because of the financial reasons. As a pure football player, Peppers is better, I just think there are some risks he gets lazy and doesn't produce.
-
I think Kapman is a better fit. There is a bit more risk there, but a lot less financial risk in signing him and given all of the Bears potential needs, Kapman would allow the team to adequately address a need while still giving them the resources to do something else.

I'm really excited with this hire. I don't know if it will turn out, but it could pan out BIG TIME.
-
Forte's ability to catch the ball out of the backfield though act as a safe running play so I think we'll see a very very productive season from Forte and whomever his back-up ultimately is (and I expect it to be a very good back-up, ie a Chester Taylor or LT).
-
I'm excited. I don't know if it will work, but he's got a hell of a resume and knows offense. He is also well respected and I think he could do some good things for Cutler. Plus, he'll be the best QB (talent wise) that Martz has ever had (Warner is the best he's ever worked with though). Forte has a pretty nice combo skill-set so I think you could call him a poor man Marshall Faulk and he's got some TE's that he never had before (Olsen/Clark). I spose Vernon Davis was a talent but when Martz was in San Fran Davis apparently didn't have the greatest work ethic.
-
I find it pretty hillarious how he was able to work and develop under one of the best offensive minds of all time and one of the best coaches of all time (Shanny). Never was a word said about him being a baby or anything. In fact, SHanny absolutely loved him as did all of the people who worked with him in Denver prior to McDeutche. THan all of a sudden he turns into a baby. I flat out don't buy it and I'm so sick and tired of hearing it. The media needs to do its homework instead of spout out ridiculous, unfounded shit.
-
I don't buy into it and I think its a bunch of bullshit. The guy was tough as nails on the field. Took hit after hit and got back up and tried his ass off. If anyone thinks he doesn't care, they are freakin nuts.

Smith, Angelo may be at odds over coordinator pick
DABEARSDABOMB replied to Wesson44's topic in Bearstalk
I'm ok if we go either way. I like that Rogers runs a version of the west coast which at least means Jay isn't learning a completely new system (as he would with Martz) but at the same time, Martz has proven he is a dynamic offensive mind.
