  1. You might not agree, but given that it is coming from NFL guys it at least shows that the Bears aren't doing something that would be considered abnormal or unprecedented.
  2. I think the head coach still is very involved in the hiring of assistants. Turner only really brought in Harry, I think that was his guy, but outside of that while he might have vetted some of the guys, Lovie/Jerry were bigger influences on the assistants hired, imo.
  3. I got a feeling Tice is going to be in charge of a pretty substantial portion of the offense (mainly the oline and rushing philosphy and his influence might even extend a bit into the TE's since he has experience coaching them, is a former player, and well quite frankly they play an important factor within the rushing game) so my guess is he's been given the reigns to pick his guy and that ultimately the Bears will have Tice be part of the process to get the OC as well (obviously not as the decision maker but I'm sure it will be important that Tice and the OC agree). I assume whomever we bring in as the OC will be very good with QB's and the air attack and Tice can step in and help with the ground-game. I see it in a similar mold to how Arizona runs things. I assume that guy is Zampese but that they are also waiting to talk to a few guys that are still in the playoffs (most noteable the Colts WR coach).
  4. In no way will I be incredibly excited about the hire though. Oline coach and our OC/DC are the positions I truly care about. I truly believe that the oline/dline coaches we have are amongst the best in the league though and that is something to build upon (Tice/Marinelli).
  5. One thing I just thought of is the fact that the TE coach typically works closely with the Oline coach so it could be that Tice is interviewing him as well.
  6. One thing I wonder is have the Bears already identified there OC and they just can't announce it yet since he's in the playoffs or something along those lines? Otherwise it seems odd that we continue to interview assistants and potentially hire them prior to make a move. I understand it with Tice since he was a pretty big name hire and something they had to jump on quickly but in this instance couldn't you wait? If you aren't waiting, it makes me think the Bears already have a guy in mind.
  7. Carllson put up good production despite being less talented than a guy like Greg Olsen and he worked with a bevy of QB's due to the injuries to Hasselbach. Carlson also showed a lot of development and is supposed to be a pretty solid blocker. I like the fact that our TE coach (if we hired him) also has experience on the oline since he'd be able to provide Olsen and our other TE's with improved blocking techniques.
  8. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=6497 He has head coaching experience (College), worked with Holmgren and has had success as a coach in the NFL and had a pretty good resume at the college level. All in all, seems like a solid hire.
  9. Gailey is such a bad hire for the Bills. He's proven he can't suceed as a head coach (in the pros and college).
  10. Thats exactly it. I see no way shape or form that A the Vikes would give him permission or that B he'd leave a team that is on the verge of a superbowl to join the Bears coaching staff. As a head coach, absolutely, but not as a DC.
  11. I wouldn't trade Jay for 2 1st rounders either just in case anyone asks. I wanted a franchise QB and we got one that I think can win superbowls. Notice the plural usage of "superbowl".
  12. Jay Glazer is reporting that one of the Bears OC candidates, Chan Gailey (former Cowboys and Georgia Tech head coach) will be taking the Buffalo Bills head coaching job. Personally I'm surprised. I thought Frazier was lined up for the job but I guess the Bills didn't want to wait until the Vikings were out of the playoffs to hire there guy. Sucks for Frazier. Frazier is technically a candidate for the Bears DC job but there is no reason that will ever happen.
  13. Broncos fans are pissed at the move too.
  14. McDaniels is an ass-clown for letting him leave but oh well. Bears will not go after him since it involves a change in scheme but he'd be a phenomenal hire and he is a tremendous defensive coordinator.
  15. Absolutely not. Cutler is 10000 times better than Campbell.
  16. The rumblings around Chicago are that the Bears will look to sign a big-time back-up running back to team up with Matt Forte and LT (Cap Casualty)/Chester Taylor (UFA) are expected to be guys the Bears consider. Evidently McGahee might be joining that group and I think he could be a real nice fit if he does get cut. LT and Chester Taylor are also real nice fits. And no matter what, it seems like we have a few real good options to help improve our rushing attack (from the RB perspective).
  17. The former Browns OC seems pretty good. He was also an OC at the U when Hester/Olsen were there I believe.
  18. I got a feeling Chud is who we will ultimately hire.
  19. The loss of Adams will significantly impact the way the Bears go into this off-season, imo. I fully expect the team to keep Mark Anderson now as well as try to keep Adewale (or look into another alternative via FA).
  20. Wow. What happened? Terrible news, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family/friends. I was stunned when I saw it scroll across ESPN just this second.
  21. Probably, but that is easier said than done. He was the guy who was able to take that role and get the McCaskey boys a bit farther from the day to day in the organization. I would love for the Bears to hire a person in charge of football operations if they needed to, but right now I look at it as Angelo is the football operations leader (and GM) with Lovie the coach and Phillips in charge of all the other organizational crapola. So if the Bears fail another season, Angelo will go and the team will bring in a new guy to run the football side of things (potentially they will hire a VP of Football, a GM, and a coach).
  22. Plus if we make a run at Chester Taylor we'll have another back that can really help things.
  23. What makes you think that? Everything every talked about the stadium gave full credit to Phillips and said he was the key player that got things done. So what you are saying just isn't true.
  24. The above is a real good piece and it is the way I feel. I was really bummed about losing Fewell but am excited about what the team is looking at on the offensive side of the ball. Plus the Patriots Dcoord is now available and you never know, maybe the Bears could go that way (although the %'s are probably like 1% that they would consider him).
