Seriously, Defiantgiant? A 2010 Draft Thread Already?
DABEARSDABOMB replied to defiantgiant's topic in Bearstalk
You are correct. He had a DUI, but I love the idea of drafting Iowa lineman. -
If Lovie really believes this he should be fired.

Dang, didn't realize they got guaranteed part-way through the season. Do you know how many games into the season contracts become guaranteed? -
Do the Bears Send a Message and Cut Tommie?
DABEARSDABOMB replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
So he'll get the remainder of his salary if we cut him? I thought he'd only get what he's been paid thus far since contracts aren't guaranteed? -
You are probably 100% right.

Is Harris more important than we want to admit?
DABEARSDABOMB replied to nfoligno's topic in Bearstalk
I've wondered the same, but I think it has more to do with the team just going up against better offenses than anything else. Although if I'm Tommie Harris, I'd be bringing up that point. -
I think you've hit the nail on the head with this paragraph and I'm curious to see what the case is. Basically I see one of three things happening: Phillips has faith in Angelo: We fire Lovie, Angelo brings in another guy, and he gets a few years with that guy. Phillips has lost faith in both: We fire both Phillips has lost just a bit of faith in Angelo and faith in Lovie: We give them each one more year on an ultimatum.

I realize that we've already past the trade deadline, but I think its time to take a look at the future of this Bears team. One of the first names that comes to my mind is the wiley veteran, Olin Kreutz. Should we start to go another direction as we work on rebuilding our line? Could he be able to help us land an extra 3rd round pick in a trade? Would Josh Beekman (the so called guy grooming for the job) be a solid center. Essentially, should we trade Kreutz in the off-season for a 3rd or 4th pick, move Beekman to Center and than spend the money saved (plus whats in our coffers) for a big time tackle (or just find a real good RT if we think Williams can play LT). Use a draft pick or two on guards, plus sign a veteran guard to go with the RT and call it and off-season.

I would not hire Shanny if he wants to run the whole show. He can be helpful in bringing in the GM if thats what it takes, but I'd prefer he work with Angelo and the two be a package duo. Let Shanny make the call on the offensive talent, Angelo make the call on the defensive talent and help Mike in that area. I have a few friends that are huge Bronco fans and I've always followed the Broncos as they are my favorite team in the AFC (loved Elway) and they've all insisted that Shanny went down-hill when he took over both duties and he ultimately couldn't handle it. I'm hoping that his year off he's thought about this and came to the same understanding that Holmgren did where you realize there is just no way you can do both jobs and be sucessful at both. In fact, most of the time you'll end up being sucessful at neither. -

Think of this. Tommie Harris makes ~7.5M per season in non-guaranteed pay. Thus far he's received half of that (8 games). By cutting him, the Bears would save 3.75M which would off-set 68% of Lovie's contract for next season. -
What do you guys think and what would you do? On the plus side, he's a dumbass who has really been lazy the past couple years. Yes, he's played through an "injury", but he has skipped treatments in the past and just doesn't seam to get it. We'd also save money by cutting him as he's in a series of one year deals so there wouldn't be any cap rammifications, other than saving a few mill in current payroll (which could help the Bears cover the costs of firing Lovie and hiring someone else!!) On the down-side, they claim he's actually healthy and our two worse 1st halves of the Lovie era came with him on the sidelines. Maybe he is more valuable than we think and we just can't afford to let him go? Personally I say save the money, send a message, ditch the jackass, and cut him today!

This is going to be an important time for the fan base to be up in arms because the more vocal we are, I believe the more likely ownership and the McCaskey's feel the pressure to make a move.

The oline quietly had its best game of the season this week. It doesn't say much, but it played better and as a result Jay was able to look down the field more often and have a very big passing day. I still like the idea of moving Williams to the LT, but only if we think he can do a better job than Pace. The reason I say this is, I don't want just anyone blocking because our most valuable player is our QB and he's already getting killed, I don't want him dying on us.

Starting to think we start over, Angelo on down

How about we make another couple CPA's pres and Vice Pres, myself and Madlith, haha We'll play rock paper scissors to see who gets more say, haha. -

I've actually heard a few rumblings that the name Shanny has been thrown around at Halas Hall. Who knows how realistic it is, but of all offers, I think its the job he'd be most interested in, with the exception of the Chargers job (where he could have a shot at sticking it to both the Raiders and Broncos twice a year). Dallas will probably come a calling too, but the reality is I don't see him working with Jerry Jones. -
The Cover 2 (nor any defense for that matter) works very well when you can't get to the QB. The Cover 2 though, especially struggles in those circumstances and its why we are seeing them get posterized.
-
They won't fire Lovie to pay another coach 6M a year. But they will fire him to bring in a guy they like and pay 2M a year. Than in theory they are just paying 2M more for the 1st 2 seasons and than saving money the next 2 (if the coach signs an initial 4 year deal). 2M a year is a pretty fair rate for what HC's get when they come in as a Coordinator.
-
The blessing is we have Jay Cutler. And a good QB can help us make the playoffs while we retool a bit. Or at least that is what I'm hoping (although I doubt it happens by this year).
-
If any of those guys want GM duties, I wouldn't hire them. Coaches can not double as GM's. It doesn't work. Holmgren knows that so he isn't going to ask for them and Shanny got in trouble in Denver when he took over as the Personell guy. They'll want say, but you need to have a GM. I think Angelo's job is probably safer than Lovies and I've been a huge Angelo backer but this year has been a meltdown. Still, I liked the theory of what Jerry did and I put a lot more blame on Lovie for what has happened cause I think Lovie did a horrible job evaluating his talent on the field and Jerry listened to Lovie a bit too much. That said if your going to let Jerry bring in his guy at coach, it means your going to let him stay another few years cause you can't fire the coach and than fire the GM a year later (with a coach who he didn't pick running the helm...thats just bad business, imo).

I got a feeling the Bears are going to go the under-the-radar way and go after a Mike Nolan and see if he can turn the ship the 2nd time around. They go cheaper on the HC and than try to find a good offensive mind to bring in and let run the offensive side of the show. I'm not sure the Bears will fire Lovie and go with a Shanny and I think Gruden winds up at Notre Dame. A wild card would be the Bears going after Jim Harbaugh (of Stanford), who I guarantee turns into one of the hot names this off-season.
-
I'm starting to think about Darryl Drake too. Hester really has made massive strides as a receiver, Bennett looks a lot better and than there is Knox. None of these guys have the skill-set of a #1, but if we can find a #1 and surround him with these guys we are talking about a WR corps that could be the best in the league in a few years (easier said than done though as #1 Wr's don't grow on trees and the Bears clearly have other issues which are far greater than the WR one).
-
And thats only if the 3rd string QB is listed as the emergency QB. If you have him active you can interachange all 3 QB's.
-
You can interchange QB's. The only time Warner couldn't come back in is if a team went to there emergency 3rd string QB who wasn't on the active roster.
-
Thats what happens when you make a stupid coaching call. They needed 7 points, not 3. You go for it on 4th. Have some balls Lovie.
-
This is where Jay is going to probably throw some picks and I'll have to here dumbass fans tell me how much he sucks...well what the freak do you expect when your playing down 30.

This is the defenses worse game. This is worse than the Bengals game, defensively speaking, imo, cause the Cards can't even run and they are doing that with ease too.
