  1. There is a lot of talk the Rams may go with Gholston or Dorsey as opposed to Long. If that happens Long will be a Raider (playing with the same team his dad played on).

Falcons want Dorsey badly at #3 so if Dorsey goes 2 it could make things interesting as it could make the Falcons a player for Matt Ryan, which means one of KC/Bmore (the teams who I believe will take Ryan assuming Dorsey is on the board for the Falcons) would be taking a position player of some sort (which could have a negative impact on what is available for the Bears).

  2. Yes, I like Delvin Thomas also. The only question mark I see with Kelly is his speed. I am not one to take a lot of stock in times ran in shorts and sprinter shoes. I think he has enough speed to go along with his atheticism to make an immediate contribution to Tampa Bay's offense. However, he could also turn out to be another Mike Williams. (I think the kid has a good work ethic and attitude so I do not envision this.)

To me I'm less concerned with his speed and more concerned with his Knees and questionable comments. I think his play on the field showed he was able to generate seperation and make plays, so its just a matter of him not getting into trouble or saying stupid things and staying healthy, imo.

In fact, this is the type of guy who could realistically fall all the way to the Bears 2nd round pick.

  3. Agreed. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And every year someone makes a wild move that throws off the course of the draft. And it is my opinion, that if this move played out in real life, it would go down as one of the worst trades and then picks in draft history. I believe every single draft "expert" would criticize the move (not that I really respect them).

As an experiment, I went to three different Broncos message boards. To be quite honest, I was shocked to see some people thinking of going the RB route in the first. It validated the pick, somewhat. However, many more Broncos' fans criticize the move, pointing to the same thing I have mentioned.

To each his own, I guess.

I could see someone feeling that way because Mendenhall will probably be available when the Broncos pick or at least there is a good shot he will be. If he isn't there, than it likely means the Bronco's will have there pick of one of the top tackles on the board (which is another need position for them). The same scenario could very well play out for Chicago.

However, the one reason I couldn't call this one of the worse trades ever is because Mendenhall would give the Bronco's there most talented RB since Clinton Portis and I'd be pretty surprised if Mendenhall (barring injury) doesn't have at least a solid career and he obviously has the upside/potential to have a tremendous career and therefor assuming you get production out of the guy it would really be hard pressed to consider the move that bad of one (aside from my belief that Mendenhall would be available at the Broncos pick).

I also see the logic to building the offense and than going DT later on (or maybe even trying to move up later in the draft, dangling your own 2nd and Travis Henry or another pick) to take a guy like Balmer from NC late in the 1st if he's there). Giving Jay Cutler an impact back to work with could really make that entire offense pretty dynamic (and Jay has shown plenty of flashes as to why he was drafted when he was).

  4. How is David Carr a bigger bust than Cade McNown? I saw no mention of McNown and while Carr never ended up panning out he did have a few quality seasons in Houston despite playing behind a horrid line and being on a generally bad team.

That said I understand Carr was the #1 draft pick so with that comes higher expectations than a guy like McNown (who I think we drafted at 12).

  5. I honestly have no problem dealing Urlacher. I think its smart business to trade guys when they are exiting there prime, especially when they still have tremendous trade value and Brian has exactly that.

However, the one flaw with your idea I have is the money that will go to all of those picks is probably greater than what it would cost to sign guys (this may seem like a ridiculous concept, but the amount of guaranteed money top 10 picks get is just crazy). Oh and the other flaw is we are getting rid of guys who gripe about there contract but will than draft guys that end up holding out for at least some part of training camp (or at least there is a very good chance of that, especially as you move into the top 10 picks in the draft; although Angelo clearly has a good history of getting guys signed).

  6. This would be a tremendous draft in my book. Williams is a nice looking tackle, Brohm would be good value at a long term need position, Smith is a workhorse type back (I have concerns over his longevity given how many carries he's already had in his college career), and Simpson is an absolute workout warrior (lots of raw tools) who again fills a need (Simpson is tall, with good speed, just a bit raw).

  7. The Houston Texans would have liked to grab a RB, but with Mendenhall, Stewart, and McFadden off the boards I was unwilling to reach on Felix Jones (however, consider me on the board when it comes to moving up in the draft to target a RB).

Therefor I went with what I felt was the next biggest need at CB and have selected CB Aquib Talib from Kansas. There are some off the field questions but nothing which the Texans deemed to be too problematic and the kid has done nothing but make plays at the collegiate level and has the tools to make plays at the professional level.

  8. QB's have fallen in the past, what if he drops down to us? Do you want angelo to take him? Is he a franchise QB? I have this vision of ryan available and angelo having another david terrel moment, not really being prepared for the scenario.

If he fell I would be shocked if the Bears didn't take him. I personally wouldn't want to take him but the Bears just like most teams in the league absolutely love the intangibles and would be getting a tremendous value pick (as I'm sure he's rated over most of the other players that would be available at 14 on the Bears board).

That said there is absolutely no way that he gets past Baltimore.

  9. LCD is the better of the two, imo. I'd also recommend the 47inch one as it is 1080P which is what BluRay is designed for.

I have a DLP which I love to death. The other recommendation is to make sure you have a couple of HDMI inputs on the TV so you are ready for when you eventually get a BluRay plus able to hook up your cable or satellite to the other hdmi input.

  10. I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see Briggs and Urlacher switch positions. I don't think it will happen this year, but I could definitely see it happening a year or two down the road (with Briggs still in his prime and Urlacher getting a little older).

  11. I think Williams would be a tremendous pick. The one major question associated with Williams is the immediate impact he might make. I've read in numerous places that he is a bit more raw than the other tackles but he also has the physical tools to turn into a complete road blocker of a LT and I for one am for the taking of high impact guys (even though I believe he has more risk associated with him than some of the other tackles who would be available later on in the 1st and even early into the 2nd.

I still have no problem trading down and grabbing Albert (move down about 4-5 slots and pick up some to ensure you have 2 2nd round picks; 1 for the RB who falls and the other for the tackle who falls).

Either way I'd be happy with Mendenhall/Otah/Williams with the 14th pick and if we traded down I'd be more than thrilled to get Felix Jones and than use our 2nd and 3rd for tackle and guard (plus the extra picks acquired to get a WR/Safety/QB of the future/another olineman, etc).

  12. I told you guys before the Bears drafted Benson that it was a bad idea.

I'm telling you, again, that drafting a RB at 14 is a mistake unless it's McFadden (which ain't gonna happen).

    Read the signature below...

Lets not forget that Mike Williams would have been an even bigger bust. Bottom line is, the guy the Bears picked is a bust and I'd be surprised if he's anything but that.

  13. he was only a 3rd round pick in Angelo's eyes. We have no RB capable of starting for any team, its a joke. We need to shoreup the Oline thru FA and later draft picks.

I agree. The Bears clearly have a deficiency in the backfield. You have Benson who has proven nothing except that he'll get hurt and that he has a less than stellar attitdue (and this is coming from someone who likes Benson). Peterson has shown he is nothing more than a 3rd down back and Garret Wolfe was the dumbest pick (given the Bears personell on special teams and in the backfield alreadY) as he doesn't have the tools to ever be anything more than a 3rd down back (and the Bears already had a solid one of those).

Felix Jones and Mendenhall both seem like excellent fits. In Jones case playing behind McFadden means he will come to the NFL fresher but it also means he'll be less experienced. He has all the tools to be an elite back though as does Mendenhall. Stewart has the tools to be a workhorse type of back (which is what I thought Benson was going to be).

Regardless, I believe the Chicago Bears 2 biggest needs are at the RB and Oline position. The next position in line would be the WR position (which while the Bears have some legitimate NFL talent, they do not have proven commodities at the position) and the safety position (again, some talent is there, but the production has been sub-par). After that, finally QB enters the equation.

  14. I'm not aware of the ability to add a subject line, but later this week when my work schedule finally calms down (I work at a Public Accounting firm so the first few months of the year are absolute hell so I have little time to do any backend sort of site stuff).

I also know I have to add links to the top of the forums (to mock drafts, chicago bears.com, etc) as well as the chat room (which will be for sure up in time for draft day).

  15. Looking over Jackson's stats, you could really make a case that he's a simliar type of player to Berrian (more proven, but maybe on the downside of his career while BB is on the upside).

Jackson had a poor season in San Fran, but he had absolutely no offensive help. Gore was hurt and the QB play in San Fran made the Bears QB play look like the Colts/Patriots play. The year before in Seattle he put up just under 1000 yards and 10 TD's. Obviously Seattle could potentially inflate his stats (given they are a good offensive team, definitely a better offensive team than Chicago) but he has 3 1000 yard seasons, plus a couple 800+ receiving yard seasons.

And with the exception of one year where he was injured and this past season, he has always had over 700 receiving yards (that includes his rookie season in 2000). He would be the perfect pickup to compliment Booker and help Rex Grossman/Kyle Orton.

Mix those two with Clark/Olsen and you have a pretty servicable set of receiving weapons with the threat of having an above average to even a top 5 receiving core if Bradley/Hester develop. Man, I really want Jackson.

  16. I just wanted to say that while this thread is up, that if there is any sort of feature that any of the members would like to see added or any adjustments made please feel free to let us know. We as the admins/mods are not here to run this board as dictators.

We are just here to ocassionally get involved in situations where moderation is needed and to do things behind the scenes to ensure proper server set up or add features which members have requested. Given this group, which I've been a part of for over 10 years (crazy to even think that), I know that rarely is any sort of moderation needed as while things can get heated at times, everyone has always shown a great detail of respect for the fellow members.

Bottom line, I don't want anyone to think that we as admins just do things because we can. We are all here to just lend our helping hand when its needed, that is it. This is an awesome community and one that I'm proud to be a part of.
