Crap is that what is being reported?
-
Other than the injuries to some key players on Bears, it was a good day from a draft perspective. Jags, Raiders, and Panthers all with wins. And as much as I hate to say it - Packers winning tonight probably would be a good thing too.
-
I think the reality is - it is going to take until the bye week until Claypool gets more integrated. He is just going to be limited in his route tree. Fact that Pringle is in the same boat - the combined factor there is tougher. Pringle at least knows the playbook - that said - timing and rapport etc is not as good. This will take time - but lets hope Fields can continue to ascend and than we see continued ascension each quarter of the season.

Is Poles getting too much credit/not enough blame?
DABEARSDABOMB replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
No - it was created; Yes, they had to take some pain now - but they were paying massive amounts of money to those 2 players and because they are no longer on the roster - they will now have the ability to redeploy that space. Had they kept Mack/Quinn - they would NOT have had that ability, so you need to judge this by the money they use on others combined with Claypool and Brisker. -

You are undercounting the $40+M in cap space created. -
I imagine we will pay him and Mooney both and than look at getting another wideout via the draft (where you have cost control that way and you have cost control in Velus Jones as well). The nice thing is Mooney seems like the kind of guy that just wants to win and have other guys around him flourish (less ego - he just wants to be great and win). I also wonder when you put some of these pieces around Mooney can Mooney become a really dynamic guy in the slot - with his speed and route-running, he could just become a total beast, especially if safety's are having to worry about the over the top stuff with Claypool and others (not to mention Mooney can still take it over the top). Love the trajectory for the skill position so much more with this one move - but I also have to remember - it will take time to integrate Claypool as well. I really hope Claypool takes advantage of this too.
-
Plus they got roster certainty. They needed to upgrade at wideout and the reality is the draft class isn’t overly strong (on paper) and the free agent class is the same. This move, while steep, makes the entire wide receiver room a lot better and gives Fields a lot more. Quite frankly Mooney will benefit from this as will Claypool in terms of how they fit and now Pringle, Harry and Velus (and even St Brown) all fit in better too. And Kmet. Poles now can really let the draft and free agency come to him. I imagine they prioritize pass rush, center, interior dline and another wideout between draft and fa and I still kind of expect they will get some more picks by trading down a bit for a team looking for QB.
-
Ok - I was a little surprised at the cost but as I have had more time to think about this I love it. Not cheap - but he is young, you have cap space, and he is a perfect compliment to Mooney. The main risk seems to be some issues with attitude but I don’t know what to think of Steelers, who under Tomlin always have drama. Juju seemed to like him a lot. But when I think about the Bears - they needed to find a wideout and he has been pretty good early in his career despite shoddy QB play. Tools are very strong so real upside. Beyond that everyone shifts down - so Pringle and Velus and Kmet all benefit a ton as does Fields. And they still have flexibility. Now it will take time for him to get acclimated but Bears offense got a heck of a lot better.

On the Adams part - I believe I read that he will come back as soon or right after he becomes eligible (so one more week type of a deal). We also get a chance to see Sanborn and whether he is a preseason guy or if maybe he's a decent player (he looked great in the preseason - that said - athletically he isn't anything special so are his instincts / football iq enough to offset being a bit slower).
-
That would be my preferred plan - with that said - another half season. If Fields doesn't stack up games and show something - and you like a QB early in the draft - you have that flexibility. But I agree - if Fields gives you a 50/50 hope by end of the season, you just keep building around him knowing you can get another bite at the apple the following year (if Fields doesn't end up being that guy). Either way - while it means this season will be tough to watch (from a W-L perspective), we at least have a young QB to watch grow (hopefully) all while being in a really good position from a cap perspective and starting to stack up some picks. With that said - this team is still really devoid of young talent. So hopefully we see Velus start catching those (he got open) and emerging and similarly we see Mooney and others take steps forward (along with Gordon / Brisker continuing to grow).
-
Completely agree - and with that said - if Fields regresses - Poles is making sure team is bad enough that you could take a QB early if you need to. But I hope that isn't what happens - cause it sure would be nice to see Fields just keep making strides forward and really looking like a dude by end of the season. Would be a massive accelerator to this rebuild.
-
I am guessing Ejax goes and likely Montgomery. Would be more surprised if Ejax didn't go than Montomgery as I could see Poles not wanting to mess with the offense (i.e., just keep Montgomery). But I wouldn't be shocked if a team like the Rams didn't offer up a pretty good pick for David that might be too good to pass up.
-
At this point - highly likely Bears are picking top 7, likely top 5. I am hoping Fields continues to grow and emerge and the Bears are sitting in a spot where a team loves a QB and makes a big move up with the Bears accumulating even more picks.
-
I wanted more - and this hurts - cause he is one of the few elite talents we have. That said - you don't win paying big bucks to a linebacker (especially one that doesn't get after the pass rush). The downside is - this is a middle of the 2nd round pick - so would have really liked 2 2nd rounders. But I get it - Poles is making some hard choices and taking a true reset which I truly appreciate.

Week 8 Official Game Thread - CHI at DAL, +10, O/U 42.5, 1200 on Fox

Yeah - this was a good game from Fields and another step forward for the offense. -
I think I read where Patrick is likely going onto IR, which would imply the foot injury was serious. Hopefully this was a premature report and it turns out that the injury was minimal.
-
This is basically a 5th rounder - given how good Eagles have been. I am glad they made the move - but was hoping they might get a little more (say a late 3rd or a 4th and a future 4th). That said - can't argue the logic. Bears now have $125M in cap space next year.
-
I kind of think about it as - this off-season has to be about getting the roster better and starting to find young talent (and hopefully adding it with talent on this roster that emerges, including current draft picks + other guys). But they probably won't address QB this off-season (unless Fields is a total disaster) because they have so many holes that they have to basically give Fields one more year and begin the better part. If Fields isn't it - than after next year, they will still have a high draft pick and can figure out what to do at QB, but at that point - hopefully the cupboard is far more full than empty. So this year is really about growth for Fields, with the limitations (ideally he surprises us and has some wow games, even with limited personal by the end of the year and his lows & high's both keep getting better). But the rest of this year is long - and I'm really interested in seeing how he performs in the back half of the season

They are horrid.

Patrick and Mustipher are god awful.

This is awesome. In general - yesterday was a win. Best game all season from Fields and 2nd straight game of progress. Let’s see a 3rd straight game of positive momentum on Thursday! -
My only knock was they should have moved Roquan and Quinn at peak value or at least Quinn. Roquan I can live with - but still would have preferred dealing with the right offer.
