Leno got beat on that one play and had that penalty, but he is an unnecessary scapegoat. He is a much better LT then the majority of posters give him credit for.

I don't think the receivers not looking like they belong on an NFL team has anything to do with Fox. Blame the front office or use injuries as an excuse, but Fox can only do so much. Wheaton is also rusty from injuries, etc. Not excusing his bad play but I'd give him a couple more weeks before cutting him loose (and either way he is still, sadly, better than most of what we have at wideout). We have a really really bad WR corps. The units with Johnny Knox and Devin Hester are significantly better then this corps.

Yet he is the 2nd best receiver on the roster (by far). Wright being the best.

It was interesting, Fox mentioned they didn't have a football ready (because refs switch in / out a kicking ball) and that is what drove the delay of game. We may have gotten too cute, but that made me feel a bit better about that sequence of events (or at least that's how I rationalized it).

They are getting there hands on too many balls of late...the turnovers are going to come...I'm convinced we are going to have a huge defensive games (when it comes to TO's).

The play calling was weak, the execution was poor, but it was also evident just how shitty the receiving corps is.

What do you mean time will tell? Trubisky is our starting QB on Monday. He's going to get in the action sooner then Goff ever did. You and Jason are arguing that there is some huge negative between him starting now (Week 5) vs. Week 1. It is 4 freaking weeks...I really can't see some huge miss because we waited 4 weeks before he gets his feet in. I would have said the same thing if he waited 10 weeks too or even the whole year (If Glennon was good and Trubisky sat and learned for a full year, so be it). Now I can see a QB going out too early and them not being able to recover. Look at Deshone Kizer...he is getting crushed and there is a possibility that he just wasn't ready and instead of learning from those mistakes, you lose confidence and takes steps backwards (because you just weren't prepared to succeed). I liken it to promoting someone too soon to be CEO of a company. If they aren't ready, they could collapse and fail miserably and nowhere through that exercise were they able to learn / get better off. If a person had put in the time, learned and was properly prepared...even if it was a stretch, they could actually go and learn from it and eventually succeed and excel at the job.

Jared Goff was the #1 pick in the NFL last year and he sat for a long time. He wasn't ready to start and if you flash forward to this year, I think there are a lot of teams who wouldn't mind having Goff.

If we took Aaron Rodgers at #1 overall and it took him two years before he became the player he was, I would never look back and call that an awful pick. We were going to be bad and to actually become a superbowl team we needed to invest in a QB. Whether he starts week 1 or sits the entire season, the only thing that matters to his long-term value proposition (as to whether he is a good or bad pick) is whether he actually becomes a great QB. If he does, the pick is amazing and no one gives a rip whether he started week 1 or week 1 the following year.

I'm excited. I also want to immediately acknowledge this team has limitations on offense that not even the best QB's could overcome. With that in mind, I promise to be patient and not overly reactive to what happens but I really hope Mitch can lead us to the promised land!!! I also will stay away from comparing him to Watson, Kizer, etc., and just focus on what he does.

The franchise turned tonight because the keys are getting turned to Trubisky next week. Fox didn't say it...but he said it. It is evident.

This game will come down to our pass rush and turnovers, imo. If we get aggressive on the pass rush, I think we create turnovers, and if we can protect the football on the other side, then I think we might be able to flip one out. If we can't get pressure, Rodgers will put up points and if on top of that, we give him short fields because we have a lot of turnovers/miscues on our offensive side of the ball...well, we will be in trouble.

By the way, my post wasn't really addressing your point and I do agree with you that Floyd should have had Ben. A lot of great players have not brought Ben down over the years though. He is a unique QB in how difficult he is to bring down. There were another couple plays where he had a shot for a sack as well and didn't close appropriately (part of that I think goes back to how difficult Ben is to bring down).

Floyd didn't get the sacks, but he was in the backfield a handful of times and was excellent in run and pass protection. While the sacks haven't been there, sometimes they come in chunks and even without the sacks he's been good. There is more to being an OLB than pure sacks and we saw enough flashes last year that people making/calling him busts are just being ignorant of facts (in addition to the fact that he's actually been a good player this year without the sacks). That said, to be elite, the sacks need to be there and he has the talent...lets see what happens.

I think Cohen was in bounds, but I ultimately agree that they wouldn't overturn it (just like if they originally called it a TD, they wouldn't have overturned it).

Great win...despite Glennon. Time for Trubisky. Loved the defensive performance. They are getting their hands on a lot of footballs and that should turn into more and more turnovers. Guy I want to really highlight on the D is Fuller. He has really looked good this year.

Our oline didn't produce last week, but Glennon doesn't help anyone. I don't even know how to rank Whitehair given how many positions he has had to play thus far to start the season. The oline is a unit and a team and needs to work well together and with all the various injuries, etc, it isn't surprising that we've had some trouble. It also doesn't help that we have zero downfield threat with Glennon (or our receiving corps) and it puts the oline in a bad spot (from a pass / run blocking perspective). Does anyone know the status of Kyle Long?

I don't know if he definitely has more upside. Bellamy is a good special teams player being asked to play receiver. He isn't a good receiver. We shouldn't cut him because of his WR gaffes, but we should recognize that he shouldn't be at receiver. Unfortunately, he does need to play wideout right now. In terms of Gentry, he had a drop and a bad penalty. I think we all hope he is some diamond in the rough but think of everyone who bashed the org for not playing Braverman...well, reality was he just wasn't very good (at wideout or special teams). In Gentry's case, I think this has more to do with Wheaton actually being solid, who they are replacing, and knowing that they can probably stash Gentry on practice squad while he continues to develop and learn the full route tree. I do think Gentry has a chance to be a surprise though (so I'm not bashing him) but I also don't we can blatantly just assume he has way more upside.

Two weeks. He blocked really well in the first game but we barely threw the ball until the 4th quarter. Last week was just a disaster. Wait until Miller goes down anyway and we'll start to see a lot more of Simms.

I watched a different game as you. Watson has some physical gifts, but he is generally an inaccurate passer who can't read defenses and make the tight throws. Not saying the book is out on him because it is one game, but those flaws are magnified in the NFL. Not taking away anything from how great of a college QB he was, but what I saw out of Trubisky in the preseason is better then what I saw out of Watson. I could be completely wrong, but that is what I saw. I also think Dak is going to have a hell of a fall this year. In two games I've seen a guy who has limited skills that won't play at the NFL level (from a pure passing perspective). He is very smart though and that is the one thing that makes me think he can get away with a lot more. We shall see but my hot take to my boss (who is a diehard Cowboy fan) was that after week 1's big win against the Giants that I thought Dak looked pretty bad and just physically lacked the skills to be an above average / elite QB.

The question isn't about Glennon vs. Trubisky, the only question the Bears need to ask is when is the time right for Mitchell Trubisky to start. Glennon has nothing to do with the argument. We all see Glennon for what he is, maybe his warts were exposed quicker then our staff/front office expected, but warts existed and the lack of receiving crew exposes them more. That doesn't mean you just flip to Trubisky. Mitch controls his destiny here and when the Bears feel he is ready, he will be inserted into the roster. I actually suspect Fox would have already turned to Trubisky (since he has to save his job and probably realizes Glennon won't save it), but Pace is being very pragmatic about when Mitch is ready and the decision won't be made by Fox in a vaccuum and will need Pace's input and blessing as well.

"A Year from now" the class is always better. Especially when it comes to QB's. It is because they are stll far enough away you still have all the "hype" and ignore the potential warts of the players / presume existing warts will go away. A year before Watson was drafted, everyone thought he would be awesome, another year and his ability to read defenses and throw more accurately would be enhanced, but the reality was that didn't happen. Kizer had his inconsistencies. Trubisky wasn't even on anyone's radar a year ago.

I'd like to see us do what the Rams did when they traded the RG III pick (With Bradford already on their roster). Value wise that was a great football move...albeit in actuality it didn't pan out. I also view this season as a tank year, which is why I'm largely patient with whether we put Trubisky in now vs. later. It all comes down to me about when the coaching staff / front office feels that starting is in Mitch's best interest (i.e., that you truly believe he is prepared to go out and learn from the games.). Part of that also comes down to, when is our oline healthy so that we aren't risking him getting a ton of bad habits running for his life, etc. In a normal course of a season you might not think of those things, but this is a guy who the front office invested as its "franchise" guy and with that they need to do everything to protect its asset and if they think it is safer having him sit out a few extra games, in the grand scheme of things I can't see it hurting his career. On the flipside, if you put him out and he got sacked 6 times a game for a season because he wasn't ready to do all the pre-snap reads and protections and also fumbled a bunch of snaps...well I could see that as being something that could actually be tough to recover from. Essentially you don't want to David Carr him. or hell...Jay Cutler him cause I truly believe the Bears ruined Jay early in his time in Chicago.
