I think we keep him, but you are right, with his health issues, you can't count on him for anything. He's still a solid vet to have around for our TE's. We are going to run the ball and between Simms and the rookie, we have two guys that can block and we think Simms can catch better then expected and Shaheen has potential to be a great weapon as well. We are going to run a lot of two TE sets and we are going to pass out of them. I am on record as saying I'd have waited to draft TE (because it was just so deep so I didn't think we'd downgrade that much waiting till the 4th round...but I love the idea of getting a big weapon like this who can develop with Tru). I also think we are going to suck this year (and thought that before the draft), so I like that we are taking the patient path and trying to acquire best talent possible. Next year, I expect us to have a high pick and wouldn't be shocked if we were moving down and accumulating picks in the 1st (vs. moving up). I'm betting we take a DB and WR with two of our next 3 picks...possibly 2 DB's. I particularly like Desmond King. I think he is underrated and is a good fit in our system. He also is a ball hawk.

Big physical TE. I like the position...I would have preferred to trade down, accumulate more picks, and then go on my TE / DB blitz.
-
I really liked Williams.
-
One more trade down...then take a DB and TE.
-
I can see us moving back one more time.
-
Watch us move down one more time in the 2nd...I see it coming. Accumulate a ton of late 2nd / 4th round picks.
-
Plus a 4 next year!
-
Nice move...get some of those picks back
-
AZ probably taking Kizer.
-
I'm just saying...for those that say we got hosed by trading those picks to 2, I'd say we would have been fools if we took a guy @ 3 who went would have went 15 spots later. He fell for a reason. He isn't an athlete. I'd rather take a chance on a QB who could change the franchise then on an unathletic Dlineman (who will not be a difference maker). He will be solid...nothing more. Of course, I was one of the most pro QB posters on this board and very anti Allen.
-
He was the one guy I would have taken with our pick. When he left the board, I'm more convinced we should move down. Question is, what player is there that would driev a team to jump up and grab. Usually you get a little bit of action with the early 2nd round picks (especially with a day to negotiate new deals).

I presume we will look to trade down and pick up a 3rd round pick.
-
What if we drafted Jonathan Allen? We would have taken him 15 spots ahead of the rest of the league?
-
I think Pace has been told that he is going to get his time to build things his way. McCaskey has publicly stated that he believes in the plan and they clearly signed off on the move the Bears made. Ultimately, they got the guy they want and it is going to take time to develop him...but if they hit on him, he changes the franchise. We are still a couple years away and by making this pick, we pretty much assured that fact and Pace isn't doing that type of move without feeling very comfortable with where he stands with ownership. I didn't like trading up, cause I didn't think we needed to, but none of us know, and if our scouts and GM graded him out as a franchise QB, you don't get cute...you execute and get the guy you believe in. Oddly enough, if you think about the guy a lot of posters wanted (Jonathan Allen), he went after 3 QB's and was taken pretty far from our pick. So if you think of value, if we drafted Allen...we would have taken him ~15 spots ahead of the next team that took him. Not that it doesn't mean Allen doesn't become a good football player, just that the rest of the league didn't think he has the athleticism to be a special player.

I'm not shocked at all. 3 QB's are going to go top 12. I said it months ago when everyone thought I was crazy. At this point, Kizer might be sliding into the back end of the 1st as well.
-
We have been in the same camp forever.
-
Ok...expensive price...but I'm okay taking a QB.
-
It has to be Thomas or Adams.

Interesting Thomas Nugget From David Kaplan ESPN AM1000

More reports that Tru might be #1 overall...which means they are taking Garrett and Adams / Thomas are probably who the Bears are debating (unless they go QB). -
This is probably my favorite draft I've seen.
-
I would be okay with that...presume we would be taking a QB @ 12. That said, I think it is possible that 3 QB's are gone before the 12th pick comes up. Watson, Mahomes, Trubisky are going in the first round. I see at least two of the Bills, Jets, and Cardinals drafting a QB (plus of course the Browns with one of there 1st two picks). Niners and Bears are wildcards. I don't know if Kizer goes in the 1st, but I'd be stunned if the other 3 QB's don't go in the 1st round. Sidenote, If we did pass on guys, Pitt's QB impressed me a lot during Gruden's QB camp. Seemed very sharp.

I put us at 4-6 wins and see very few scenarios with us pulling out more. I do see scenarios where we are at the low-end or worse.
-
A franchise QB.
-
I think we will take a DB.
-
That is who I think the Bears will pick (if he's there).
