I don't know that anyone will jump for Jay and no one is going to give us anything for him. If he played well down the stretch, maybe we get a late round pick. I said all along we should have traded him to the Vikings when Bridgewater went down. No one in the league is going to give us anything for Jay (maybe we get a conditional pick or something). Very high probability he will be released.
-
If you cut him, you have a minimal cap hit. If you trade him, you have no cap hit and the other team could eventually cut him and pay the cap hit we would have, or they could pay him his current contract or obviously they could renegotiate the contract. Problem is, Bears will have little leverage, given how Jay has played along with the fact that he now will be coming off a labrum surgery and everyone on the planet knows we plan on cutting him. Going to be hard to get much anything for him. I do think he will go somewhere and end up playing, but he might need to wait a while until a QB gets hurt late or something along those lines.

More likely, he or Barkley could be our saviors in getting us a top pick and maybe getting lucky on whichver QB we take (I'm not convinced any of the top 3 guys are worthy of being taken in those spots), but if we pick them, I hope they go down as an all time great. Either way, I hope these guys lead to helping us get our franchise QB!!!

Our backup would be some undrafted guy from Liberty that I've never heard of. Maybe that will be our savior though...and they will go on to make a disney movie about him!!!

At somepoint in yesterday's game he injured his shoulder and early reports have it being a serious with the expectation that he will be out for the year. With Matt Barkley, that game against the Niners becomes critical for the who will get the #2 overall pick. Unfortunately, I can't see the Browns and the #1 pick factoring into anything, because they have a tough remaining schedule and limited talent themselves.

This is just laughable.

The fact that Miller was as healthy as he had been was what should have surprised us. But I do agree the hits keep on coming and this is a tough loss, because when he's healthy, he is a good player and by all accounts he's a great teammate, etc. Get better Zach.

Some rumors that the Bears are one of two teams who would likely make a push for Romo this off-season. As a two year stop-gap, while we develop a QB, I absolutely would be okay with the move. We have tons of cap space and a defensive arrow that is pointing up. I don't love any of the QB's who we may not even have a shot at with our 1st round pick and this would allow us to take someone and develop them without the immediate pressure of needing them to come in (and if we misssed, we could take another one while still having a good QB...cause Romo is good (if he's healthy). Of course as everyone on this board knows, I'm also fine making a push for Jimmy G (cause I think he's better then the top 3 QB's on the board and we could likely get him for a 2nd rounder and a future pick).

Yes. Have you all seen what teams give up for #1 overall picks? Not guys like Jay Cutler who are worthy of a 4th or 5th round pick at best. In what world do those two people equate to a #1 overall pick. Maybe we could get a 1st round pick packaging them together, but I believe most reports had Jeffrey maybe worth a 2nd round pick. #1 overall is giving up a massive amount of haul. If we were at #5 and traded our #5, Jeffrey, and Cutler...maybe we could get to #1 and even then I don't know that the Browns would do it.
-
Wait are you serious. #1 overall pick for Jay & Alshon? No freaking way would Browns do this.
-
Wow...didn't see that coming. Should hinder his free agent value a bit, but also will hinder his trade value, etc.

AZ, I always look forward to these reads. I don't have anything to disagree with and think you summed it up excellently. I'm with you in the sense that I am very happy what I've seen the past few weeks (in the sense we are seeing a young defense emerge, as well as some potential keepers on the defensive side. We've also seen improvement / things to look offensively and I agree with you Loggains seems to be finding a bit of a rhythm. Plenty of football to play and with the Packers and Vikings losing again, things just get more interesting (especially since we have plenty of divisional football left).
-
Their offense just got going, but they had two games where they really couldn't do much offensively at all.

I was annoyed at the penalty, but I presume he thought the play was dead and was hustling out for the punt? Definitely a bad penalty though. In general, a thorough beating. We looked like a superior team (no smoke and mirrors in yesterday's game). Its unfortunate we lost some winnable games. Outside of that Dallas game, we could have won any game and should at least have a few more wins (and could have been in a position to make an actual run). McPhee helps this D, but, it really helps that Floyd and Hicks have generated some real pass rush these past two games (to go with Willie Young).
-
I honestly think he wasn't used to having the ball thrown with that velocity. Looks like he was caught by surprise, but he adjusted nicely in the second half.
-
This years draft looks good. Floyd was dynamic. Drew a hold, constant pass rush (plus the sack). Showed great motor. Yes, it was again a weak oline, but something I like to see. Two straight games where he has been making plays, which is fantastic to see. Howard with his best game yet, very dynamic and just some great reads and runs (plus some nice catches). Add to that Whitehair is looking like a legit player so those are all major pluses. I don' even know who our secondary is, but some of these young guys are doing solid. The addition of Hicks also looks really solid, which is nice to see. This was a really really fun game to watch. We took it to them at all levels and our young players contributed nicely to the win.

Fox outrighted denied it after the game (not really sure why he would be the person who would comment on it though). The top of the organization should have immediately came out (as you mentioned). I presume they are being coy because it has more to do with their longer term ownership interest / plans (especially how they hold the team / manage through estate tax, etc).
-
Supposedly the particular eye was on that of Fox, which could make some of the reports that Pace never wanted Fox to begin with (and they don't see all that eye to eye) as being accurate. Remember, lots of reports that Pace wanted Bowles. No idea how much Fox was forced cause it would have been Fox was a 1B vs. 1A, so while Pace preferred one, if everyone else was on the other side, he might have said, okay lets go. My view is, you can't ever succeed in rebuilding if you don't have the patience to actually go through a rebuild. If we change every few years, we'll never build anything anyway (cause you'll never have enough time to see if you have a Picasso or a piece of crap).
-
Yep. Last year he tried to get Mariotta. Clearly willing to be aggressive and I would be okay if we had either of those guys long-term (still early on both of them, but potential certainly there).
-
Initial reports indicate that the Bears have hired an outside consultant to evaluate the franchise due to them being extremely unhappy (essentially looking into everything). Not a lot of substance behind who / what / why they hired. Many seem to think Fox and maybe even Pace are truly on the hot seat (presumably everyone would be if this is truly a full organizational review. That said, Hub is speculating that the consultant is more looking at things from a valuation perspective as the family might be getting ready to sell the franchise.

Langford is back in practice and may play Monday.

For some reason I think we are going to win on Monday night. -
On Trubisky, below is a good write-up from Greg Gabriel (yes that Greg Gabriel). As far as draft experts go, I personally think he's the best (mainly because he has so much history from doing it). He doesn't follow all the guys, but he still has tons of connections and an eye of someone who had a pretty good career (much better one then the typical "draftniks"). http://www.profootballweekly.com/2016/10/2...tching/axbg1x5/

I really have a hard time drafting a guy that is on a ND team having a historically bad season by their standards (at least with a top 5 pick). When I look back at successful NFL QB's, very few came from teams who didn't have good records. That isn't to say good record is a pre-requisite, but QB is such a critical position that it should make up everything else, and for those teams that were so lousy, unfortunately, their QB likely has ingrained some very bad habits that can be tough to overcome (case in point, Jay Cutler). I'm sure one exists, but who was the last above average QB who was drafted and largely played for a team with a lousy record in college?

If we don't get a 1st round pick plus at least a 3rd rounder, I'm not making the deal and would wait until the off-season. Either I franchise him again and then think about moving him (at that point) or I sign him. Personally, I sign him to a big deal or trade him. He's worth the money (plus we kind of have a major talent need to dumping one of the few, relatively young, game changing players, seems like a not so great thing to do. Unless of course we get quite a few picks. If White had developed, I'd have been more open, but if we trade Alshon, we have a huge void at receiver, so if we get a 1st rounder, we basically are going to use it on a wideout who most likely won't be near as good as Alshon (hopefully he is, but that doesn't exactly make us "better"). White going down / not producing was a big setback. IF we had White plus Meredith looking like he could be solid, I'd have a different perspective. Plus, if we are drafting a QB, it is kind of nice to provide the QB with some nice weapons on the outside (say an Alshon).
