Head Coach Rumors
To build on this, Cowherd said he had heard that McDaniels was the front-runner in Chicago, Indy, and Giants and that he'll be taking one of those jobs. That said, all speculation. The thought behind Edwards hire definitely fits the narrative that they may want to move fast. Even Pace had made a comment somewhere that he trimmed his initial list so they can be swift and aggressive when they identified their guy. I think they recognize their are a lot of jobs out there and quite frankly a lot of them are pretty attractive and with that, strategy to how you get your target candidate becomes key (since he might be the top guy on a couple other teams lists). I also always think this is a good time for Pace to just get insights on the team and someone from within the division (such as Edwards) should provide good nuggets during the interview on the team. I also go back to the fact that he's a free agent and if we go with an offensive minded head coach, having some dialogue now could smooth the wheels to offering a big contract when said coach becomes a free agent. Same could be said with Defillippo (who is a free agent). The early rumors are that the Bears are going to make a strong push to retain Fangio, which pushes me to think we are going for an offensive guy; That said, I think all of that is premature since we haven't even met with an external coach yet.

Head Coach Rumors
Tomorrow the Bears will interview the Vikings DC for the HC job. An interesting note on the Vikings DC is that he is a free agent at the end of the year, so the interview could be just as much about laying the ground work into potentially hiring him as a DC.

Fangio interviewed for the HC job with Pace today.

Shaw or Peterson are the only two college head coaches I'd be interested in. Obviously I would do Harbaugh but that isn't happening.

By the way, for those of you so anti Mcdaniels, I think this article is a good read and puts perspective on how he might have changed/grown up from his initial struggles. The guy is really bright and I'd be ecstatic if we hired him. That said, it has to be a good fit and him and Pace have to be on the same page. No front office / team can succeed long-term if they aren't aligned (imo). http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2666428...-pick-his-spots

This is why the Bears are doomed
I don't think Ted Phillips is bad at his job, the problem is, they have given him some responsibility he shouldn't have. He is good at running the finances of the franchise, etc. He should not be in charge of overseeing who is going to make the football decisions. If the Pace hiring doesn't work, then the Bears should restructure their front office with a president, GM, and HC. High up my list would be Bill Polian (as a president type). Dungy would also be there.

I am actually okay with McDaniels as long as he is okay with Pace having final say on the roster.

That would be really great. The downside of not having an offensive guy as your head coach is that if anyone does anything really good with Trubisky, we'll have a new OC and new system in no time. Kind of like what happened with Gase after year 1 of Fox.

Pace extension
This is business as usual in the NFL. You need the GM to be on the same time horizon as your next head coach, otherwise you aren't going to be able to hire any head coach. The moment the Bears decided they were going to keep Pace, it meant they had to extend him to be able to hire someone. If they didn't extend Pace, we'd be stuck with the least attractive coaching candidates because any of the top guys are going to a place where they aren't worried the GM is going to get axed a year into their new job (cause usually when that happens the next GM is going to want his guy).

Trubisky is playing good in these conditions. Nice to see.

Benny Cunningham is a really good 3rd down back.

Agree with you related to Gordon’s issue.

I disagree with the character matter cause character does matter. That said Gordon always plays hard and while he has issues, I don’t think they are similar to other players. Substance abuse is no joke though and you don’t want that to spread to others. We have massive needs at wideout though, but you need to be a able to depend on those guys.

Sounds good. So we would have glennon at qb and a mediocre record and be wondering how are we ever going to get a QB. No thanks...I’ll take the shot at Trubisky. Bout time we had a gm with the courage to go get the guy he wanted to be our franchise QB.

Toub would be a good head coach. Would be curious to see who he would bring in as coordinators.

I would be all over Bill O’Brien. That would be a hire.

Fuller is having himself a game. He isn’t a number one, but I would pay him.

Josh Gordon would be a guy I would consider taking a chance on. That said he could turn into a disaster.

Pace has drafted quite well. White was a disaster but I can’t blame a guy because of injuries, but other then that he’s found lots of quality players in the draft. We are a good offseason away from being a playoff contender.

Our oline is basically on IR. What do you expect. We don’t have a backup with any experience. Long, Sutton, Compton all out. Massive hurt in the game and obviously Kush hurt in preseason.

Kyle Long
He's still a physical freak and his ankle should keep getting better. Glad we shut him down and hopefully he gets to play for a winning team next year (and that winning team is the Bears)

McPhee to IR ... again
He is gone and pass rushing OLB is high on the list. That said, I'm totally down to bring Houston back as a depth move.

Bears vs Cincinnati. Game Thread
Just an outstanding post. I also want to give kudos to the players and coaching staff for having these guys playing hard in what could have easily turned into a disaster. Of course I'm one of the few here who doesn't think Fox is just a total idiot (you don't luck your way into two superbowls with two different teams as the head coach; nor do you luck your way into the playoffs with Tim "freaking" Tebow.

What to do at cornerback
Fuller had about 2 games in this whole season where he wasn't good (missed a few tackles and just didn't play well). Outside of that, he's been really really good. Wish he'd hold on to some of those picks though.

Fox & Co are a given...is Pace?
Echo those exact sentiments. Fantastic post.
