I must say, I would hate that offseason. Signing someone like Baskett doesn't make a whole lot sense considering he sucks, Herman Johnson doesn't fit in with our scheme, neither do Egboh or King. The Lions aren't going to trade for Anderson, the only team that might is a 3-4 team. I could see the Steelers moving up in the draft if an OT is available, but not sure if any will be worth it for them. Also, if we did such a trade, Steelers 1st and 2nd are about 12 points off of pick 18, and that'd be the more likely trade.

dream scenario in 2010... Shananahan HC and complete control over the offense, with some guy of his picking gets the title of OC. And then, Jim Johnson as DC, with complete control over the D! I know this will never happen, but it's fun as hell to dream.

There's some controversy between those picks, and who made them. Juaron had all the personal powers and GM was just a title for Angelo. From what I have read and heard, this caused a big rift between them. I tend to think Juaron made those picks in the draft, and Angelo didn't really get to make the final picks until 2004. Did Angelo play a big part in the previous drafts? Probably, but it was likely Juaron with the final say. Also, the main reason we didn't sign Saben, who from what I heard was originally JA's no. 1 choice, was because he wanted full GM powers.

The top 10 was a crapshoot in that draft. Use a different example please.
-
what's the point in drafting a QB late? There isn't much difference between any QB drafted in the 5-7 area and a UDFA. Just a waste of a pick, except for the ones that pan out, which are few.
-
Please point to me where I said he was the future of the organization. I simply said getting a QB like Collins would help his development. While the odds of Hanie being the next Romo or Delhomme are very slim, it's not like he doesn't have potential. In fact, with a couple seasons of development, he could turn into a solid QB. He's definitely an option for the future, but he shouldn't and won't be the only option.

wikipedia is your friend... born in oak park, played at east leyden high school, and then played at Eastern Illinois until a hit that ruptured one of his kidneys that almost killed him. Needless to say, he stopped playing football after that. However, I have heard that his downfall with the broncos wasn't his coaching, but rather the fact he was the GM as well. He's a great coach, but not as good at pretty much getting the players he needed on the team. I would love to see a Jerry Angelo-Mike Shanahan connection as our GM-HC duo in 2010.
-
Well, there was the fact he was a rookie receiver, sucked during preseason, and perhaps did not know the routes. I can't really blame any coach for having a rookie spend a year to just develop, especially at WR (or OLine)
-
He's gonna get a HC job... he's arguably the top, or 2nd best HC available. Bill Cowher being the one challenging him for the top spot. However, I hope he (and Cowher) decides to sit out for a year. Because if the Bears are bad next year, which is a very distinct possibility with as many holes we have on the team now, Lovie could very well be fired, and I'd love to see Shanny in as our HC, or Cowher if we want to stick with D for our HC's. As for Shanny's replacement, Spagnuolo seems like the perfect fit for Denver.
-
Are you high? We got rid of Rivera because we got tired of his act of doing HC interviews during superbowl week. That move was strictly to get rid of the distraction he brought along as DC.
-
Now, hopefully Brick Haley, Darryl Drake, Bob Babich, and whoever else JA feels fit gets the boot as well.
-
I don't know if you actually watched him play at all in preseason, but he clearly out preformed every QB on the team, in preseason. Granted it was against mainly 2nd and 3rd stringer, but he was afterall a UDFA from Colorade (St?), and he outpreformed every 3rd and a lot of 2nd string QB's I saw in preseason. He's a keeper.
-
Marinelli would be a big upgrade over Babich, and he's the best we could hope for. He knows the system, and has HC experience. He knows what he's doing. Plus, he's smart as hell. As for Turner, he isn't on the hot seat at all. Think about, the whole superbowl formula was to have a middle of the pack O and elite D. Guess what, our O is exactly where JA and Lovie would want it, but it's the D that's not where it's suppossed to be at. Step one in Chicago is to have a dominate D. Step two is then improve the O.
-
This isn't anything new with JA. He isn't afraid to lay down the law, and that's why I'm a big fan of his, most of the time. I think the odds of Vasher getting cut just rose a bit, but I still think we give him one more opportunity. I think Mark Anderson, Dusty Dvoracek, Hunter Hillenmeyer, Adawale Ogunleye, Brandon Lloyd, Marty Booker (mainly because he sucks), Roberto Garza, and John Tait are all on the hot seat. All of these guys were either lazy, played like shit, or both. Also, these are the players that actually played, I'm not going to get into the Terrence Metcalf's.
-
I'm hoping for Kerry Collins. The Titans have to hand the ball over the Young at some point, so that could lead to us being able to get Collins. He'd be perfect in a role where he competes for the job, but also would provide a very solid backup and someone to help the progression of Hanie.

I would prefer to pass on Houshmandzadeh for two reasons: (1) He will break the bank and get a TON of money in free agency and (2) he will be 32 by the time next season comes around. As for the others: -Hester has the most potential and should/will be a starter next season. He made great strides this year and one can only hope he does that again this year. -Lloyd... could go either way, if he's cheap. I see no problem if for cheap. He could be a weapon with his great hands, but he's a nancy. -Davis, keep him around as a 4th or 5th receiver and special teamer. This was his best role, and we should return him to it (he was in this role at the end of the season as well, it seemed like). -Booker, I love ya, but you need to be cut. -Bennett, next year could be his year. Hopefully the reason for him barely seeing anytime this year will be the same reason Beekman didn't last year... they just developed him. He could turn into a solid slot guy, as he has runs very good routes and has great hands (well, at least at Vandy he did). -Ridaeu, this could be his year as well. It'll be his, I think, 3rd year with the Bears in some capacity, and he has a chance to play a role. As of now, he's the only real big body possession type receiver this team has, and he has shown a lot in prior preseasons. I think next year he can be productive for us in a ST and situational role as a 4th receiver. -Aromashodu, a body for training camp, I guess. Who knows. Same goes for Burgess and Broussard. There's a couple decent, yet somewhat cheap, FA's I'd look at as well, notably: -Bryant Johnson (I wanted him last season, and I really want him again this season. I still think he can turn into a very solid receiver) -Michael Clayton (had a huge rookie season, but never the same, but made strides this season. Might be expandable since the Bucs no. 1 priority is to lock up Antonio Bryant, which they most assuredly will do) Another guy I'd look to get is Torry Holt. He wants out of St. Louis, and whether he gets cut, or traded, we'd be wise to pick him up. It'd likely cost a 4th rounder to for him, but if we could get him to restructure his contract, it'd be worth it. He is about 33, but he is the best route runner in the NFL and just so savy. I'd love to have him. I would like to skip WR in the draft all together, as it's tough for a rookie receiver to make an impact, and we like ours to sit for a while anyway. Also, Holt would be a great teacher for Hester. What I'd like to see next year (as for our specialists go): WR1: Holt WR2: Hester SLOT/2nd TE/FB: Olsen (sometimes Bennett as slot) TE/4th Receiver: Clark (TE)/Lloyd/Rideau/Johnson/Clayton (4th receiver, up in the air, preferably some what of a possession and blocker type) RB/5th Receiver: Forte Not much of a change from this year, but Holt would make a world of difference, IMO. While we would have two quicker/speedier receiver, we make up for that with the TE's, and Forte. Also, hopefully Bennett develops into a weapon as well.

To all the people saying no about Marinelli, I'd much rather have him then Babich. However, I think we might see some scheme changes in the offseason, especially with the front 7. I'm not saying we're gonna switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4, but I think we will change up what type of roles the players will play in the system.

we pick 18, and if the Chargers make it to the super bowl, then we pick 17. daa84, playoffs don't determine the draft position. It goes by record. There are only two times playoffs determine the order... (1) the superbowl winner gets pick 32 and the runner up gets 31, regardless of regular season record and (2) as a tie breaker for teams with the same record (usually it is strength of schedule, but if you make it to the playoffs, you automatically pick last of all the tied teams). Here is the current draft order: http://www.gbnreport.com/weeklydraftorder.html

Lets get realistic here, there's a good chance we won't be signing any big time FA's, let alone two! So, I could see us maybe make one high profiled free agent signing, and that'd be Suggs or Gross. The Ravens first priority will be Lewis, and they might be more then willing to let Suggs go, as this draft does have a lot of potential 3-4 OLB's (Cushing, Sintim to name some of my favorite). As for Gross, the Panthers are gonna make sure they keep Peppers, and that means Gross is the odd man out. Both Gross and Suggs would cost a lot, but I think Suggs would make the most sense. We need to upgrade from John Tait, but cutting him would lose us money, and we need another DE. If we signed Suggs, we could either have him rotate between LE and RE, or have him be the starter at RE and cut Ogunleye. We also need a vet QB. Collins will probably stay with the Titans, but he might not if Fat Albert eats up a lot of the Titans cap room, which is a very possible scenario (there isn't a chance in hell they let Fat Albert sign elsewhere, IMO). I'd like Collins as a backup for Orton, but he might be looking for a starting job anyway. However, he'd be perfect for us as he's a reliable starter, and can help the development of Hanie. If Orton falters next season, Collins would be the man to take over. I'd love to get him on a 2 year deal. As for Garcia, I'd pass. At this point in his career, for him to have any success, even as a backup, he needs to be in a WCO. I could see him staying with TB, but then again, there were some rifts between him and Gruden, so who knows. I could also see Cassel winding up in TB, or Detroit (if they finally go with the Pioli/McDaniels connection as their GM and HC). Also, we need to sign Leonard Weaver. We need a competent FB, and Weaver's the guy. Seattle will likely let him go as they have Owen Schmitt who they drafted last year, and T.J. Duckett signed long term. Weaver can do everything McKie can, but better, and he can block. I'd love to have him. So, my offseason wishlist would be: -DE Suggs (and if we ever change schemes, he could be a SAM or 3-4 OLB) -QB Collins -FB Weaver As for the draft, depends on a lot of who's available. I'd say take the best remaining player of OG, NT, FS, and WR. Can't really go wrong with either of those positions, as they all need upgrading.

I only see Babich getting fired (possibly demoted)... however, if it was up to me, we'd be looking at a whole new coaching staff next year.
-
It's funny how most people don't realize that a LB, especially a MLB, relies heavily on his DLine (especially the NT for a MLB). Considering the fact we had shit DLine and NT play for most of the season, I'd say Urlacher did good. Wow, I finished the rest of the post (I previously just stopped after I read trade Urlacher), and can we just close this thread? My god, what a terrible thread with some of the most idiotic ideas I've read on here. How about we cut everyone, move the team to Mexico City, and sign just random mexicans to be on the team?
-
At least Manning is still returning good after that fumble.
-
Why did we take Manning out of the nickel role? Was he playing too good there? I think we've all realized safety is not his position.
-
2004 was the Year his injuries started. Remember the packer game? He had a great game with a pick 6, I think, but got injured in the 2nd half. From 2000 to 2003, Brown played in every single game.

At some point, you gotta say thanks for everything, but bye, and that point is now...
