Might as well put Wolfe at FB. He can't do any worse then McKie.

I'm thinking it is a very distinct possibility that Bears 88 has had sexual relations with Rex Grossman.

you got away with a clip on the Urlacher int vs. the Colts.

Against every team you need gap control. What you said about Jacobs is exactly the same thing as gap control. He has to go sideways because there are no cut-back lanes because you have all the gaps controlled. This is basic defense right here to stop the run. You use gap control on every single freaking play. Whether it's executed or not is a different story. Just because your facing a running back who doesn't have great vision like an AD doesn't mean you just stop with gap control. Everyone in the box has a gap assigned to them, and if they control their gap, there should be no lanes for any RB to run through. However, tackling the RB is a different story. Here is a basic diagram: TGCGTE 5 1 ..3..5 .W..M..S This is just the basic over front without any stunts. The 5's (or the DE's) would likely have outside contain, the 1 (or NT) would have the weakside A gap, and the 3 (or UT) would have strongside B gap. Also, along with their pass coverage assignments, the WILL linebacker would have the weakside B gap, the MIKE would have the strongside A, and the SAM would have strongside C. Here's a better picture: Gap control is something every team does every single game. A better statement would be that executed gap control will stop AD. If it was as easy as gap control, teams wouldn't be able to get 5 yards running the ball. Also, the gaps, especially for the linemen, apply in pass rush as well.

No, not really. Vasher played pretty poorly last year as well, before he got paid, but we kind of dismissed his bad season on his injuries. I think it's pretty safe to say once Vasher beefed up back after the superbowl year, he hasn't been the same. He's always getting injured and his coverage skills have declined. It also makes you wonder if he got bigger in a legit way, or he got some aid from some you-know-whats.
-
ever since Vasher bulked up, he hasn't been the same...
-
Yeah, cause we'll have the no. 1 pick in the draft.

gap control is the way to contain all running backs... tell us something we don't know Sherlock, err I mean Peter King.

well, we have kind of born a rivalry with New Orleans since the NFC Championsip Game in 2006, and we have played each other tough over the past two years. So, I'm not gonna write this game off so soon. In all, it'll depend on which Bears team shows up. The one we saw vs. the Eagles and Colts, or the one we saw against the Packers, Falcons, Buccaneers, and Panthers. We always seem to play better in prime time for what it's worth, except last year on Thursday vs. the Redskins, but at that time, the team was a mess.

yippee.

I see a possible trade in the offseason very likely.

I'm still waiting. Even vs. an OLine that Tommie and Adawale broke out against, Anderson again couldn't do shit.
-
Probably because there isn't anything Jones does that Forte can't do, and Jones adds nothing to special teams. Peterson has always been a solid special teams player, and wolfe is turning into a stud on special teams.

Did you not see the play? The guy didn't hit Hester, he put his arms up in self defense when a guy came crashing into him on the sideline. That was a bad call by the refs, and he never deserved to have been fined for that.
-
I was saying that I thought he was a very good player, but not to the extent you listed. DD has shown flashes, but he is obviously not an everydown lineman. A big problem with our Dline is the lack of a good rotation, IMO.
-
If that's the case, there's no reason for him to be out there on any down besides 3rd and 4th and long. I think the other DE we need to be focusing on is Adawale, he is complete garbage this season, outside of one game early this season. I'm still hoping Tommie's problem is with his health, even though his attitude isn't helping.

Yeah, overpaying big time for a 32 year old Guard doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Then again, those contracts we gave to Harris and Hester aren't making a ton of sense either right now.

A crazy, but very smart football wise, Bears fan who inherits billions of dollars, buys the bears, and appoints himself as the president and GM.

as much as I would have liked to see Cowher as our head coach, it was all a pipe dream.

While it would be great if we could invest so much into the OLine, we must remember we have other needs and only so much cap space. Here's a realistic solution: Metcalf gone, Tait cut, and Garza possibly kept as a backup at RG/C. LT - Williams (we gotta just pray this works out) LG - Beekman (he isn't the greatest, but he's good enough for a stopgap. Buenning could also compete for this job) C - Kreutz (Yeah, he's declining but he's still the leader of the OLine and he's still decent) RG - FA/Draftee (Either Goff or Duke here. Preferably Duke as he has a ton more upside and isn't on the wrong side of 30) RT - St. Clair (We'd need to re-sigh him, but if he can play RT as good as he's been playing LT, we'd be in good shape. We could/should also draft a possible replacement in the mid-rounds) This is a weak year for FA linemen, but the one FA lineman I would love to get though is Jahri Evans from New Orleans. He's a RFA though and it would depend on what type of tender the Saints give him. If it's only a 3rd round tender, the Bears should be all over him.

So sign to OLinemen and then draft two with our first two picks in the draft? Also, sign a 40 year old QB coming off of what is very possibly a MVP season in an offense that Grossman could put up good numbers in... Yeah, that makes sense. It's not like we only have one major need and an unlimited amount of cap space.
-
We had an offense yesterday? It seemed to me that the whole game was the Bears D trying to stop the Packers O. The time of possession yesterday was disgustingly in favor of Green Bay by a wide margin.

Why does Kevin Payne consistently get a free pass on this board? He's far from our biggest problem, but I don't see what everyone else sees in Payne. He is a huge liability in pass coverage, and having him and Brown both out there is hurting our pass D big time, IMO. Payne does play with a lot of heart and emotion though, and he is very solid in the run game. But we need some sort of rotation of safeties so we don't have to have two liabilities in pass coverage back there on passing downs. We need to either take out Brown or Payne and put someone with coverage skills in, but Manning sucks in coverage anyway and Steltz isn't much better, IMO. I think safety is a bigger need in the offseason then people make it out to be.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Babich fired this week and Lovie just step in as both HC and DC.

Also, if we were to do some 3-4 sets, I'd assume it'd look something like: DE: Idonije (This position is probably the best fit for Idonije) NT: Dvoracek/Draftee (Not the best fit, but best fit we have) DE: Harris (He'd likely be traded to a team like the Bucs when the transition to 3-4 is complete, Harrison could also be a good option as a 3-4 DE) OLB: Anderson (He might be actually good in this role) ILB: Urlacher (With the way his play is declining, a move to a 3-4 D can be very beneficial) ILB: Briggs (He's a beast, could play in any D) OLB: Ogunleye/Draftee (Ogunleye is probably too old/slow to make the transition to 3-4 OLB)
