  1. While I agree that having someone to take the top off the def. is great. The way this team and is constituted and the scheme they run neither the oline or the QB that can take advantage of that. A good route running TE seems at this time a better option. IMHO
  2. Opps again in the 2nd quarter not 2nd half.
  3. I believe even more that that is a TE that can make plays in this offense.
  4. "He threw two great TD passes last week and ran for another." Opps, I meant yesterday. Seems longer. LOL
  5. With the lose of Long early this year they were stuck plugging in what. A def. lineman and a journeyman at best. I also believe they had three different philosophies on ol play. What Nagy wanted, Heistads, and Helfrichs. All of which were different. Now they have hired coaches that are all on the same page I hope. We'll see what happens next. But they do need an influx of new talent no matter what.
  6. I would hardly call Tannehill "a middling QB" this year. I believe he is one of the top rated and stats wise as good as any QB since he took over for Mariota. Yea he only threw for what just under 100 yards the last two game. But that is all they needed from him. He threw two great TD passes last week and ran for another. And that's all they needed from him. As a coach said decades ago throwing the football has only three out comes and two are bad. He is blessed to have a great running game and a coach who knows how to use it.
  7. I'm going out on a limb here but I doubt if Mitch could ever bring a team back the way Mahomes has in the first half. And just as not every play was not his fault early he sure made a lot of plays in the 2nd half. 4td's in ten minutes. And the media might keep reminding us but he and Watson sure help. Just saying
  8. "Back to my Sailor Jerry". As an ex sailor myself I had to look up what a Sailor Jerry was. Had never heard of it.
  9. And by mediocre I mean not in the NFC Chap. game. Just making the playoffs is not enough anymore. One Super Bowl win in over 50 years. The 30's 40's 50's 60's are long long ago even for me. They stopped being an elite franchise almost a century ago. OK maybe just 60 years ago.
  10. I said many years ago here that a coach and gm should have three years together to win the big one. If they don't at least get to the NFC champ. then they both need to go next year. And throw in Philips also. We've had what two or three good years and the rest mediocre.
  11. With our QB and cap the way it is I would go along with bringing in Keenum. He is mobile and has experience and I think he gets a little bit of a bad rap. But what if Pace and Nagy think this is all going so well they decide to just skip the OC Cord. and they announce that Nagy is going to do both before and during the game?
  12. https://dabearsblog.com/2020/2019-offseason-primer#disqus_thread I would like opinions on this article. Simple and makes sense to me.

That photo should become a promotional poster. I love it so much I just made it my desktop. Do they even have them anymore. Just screams DaBears!
  15. As a casual fan for most of life I watch football for entertainment. I Try to see formations on offense, what scheme the def. is in, but I don't watch the all 22 or really play back more than just to see what happened. So my question to all of you is this. I have read on a few sights and perhaps even here about the difference between how Pagano likes to use his players and Fangio did. My limited understanding is that Fangio was more of a basic 3-4 with little use of blitzes and a more conventional corner, safety def. Cover 1-2 or 3 etc. And a more conventional. ss and fs alignment. Where as I believe Pangio is somewhat the same but does use some different front 7 combinations, blitz's a little more or shows pre snap, but also likes to interchange his safeties more and views them both the same. Not that I'm questioning anyone opinion or knowledge, now that I'm semi retired I find I have more time to perhaps watch all those things and learn. So now that I have showed my ignorance help me understand. Or you could of course just tell me to shut up you old fool.
  16. I watched all also since I am now retired and can sit on my lazy ass on Sat. First time in my life I don't work on Sat. What I found interesting in my opinion and maybe I saw things incorrectly but how much more def. and the running game where on display. I'm curious to see how they game plans are this weekend playout. From my point of view only KC is a let it fly team. And I think even they would like to run more. I may be totally wrong but this years so far seems like old fashion pound and ground. Throwing bombs (will that statement get a knock on my door) makes all the highlights but moving the chains still gets wins. But I still have no hope that MT is the answer at QB. I would take 7 out of the 8 QB's still left over Mitch.

https://www.espn.com/blog/chicago/bears. What a Bear should be.
  18. What he said. I don't do well with math. But it seems like common sense that he is not going to give any money back just get it all in different ways. And from the start it is misleading because it really only frees up 4.5m because they were already on the hook for 1.5. "Details on Fuller restructure. First, Bears add two void years for 2022 & 2023 Bears then converted $2.5M in 2020 base salary + a $5M 2020 roster bonus into a $7.5M option bonus beginning in 2019. Meaning five $1.5M prorations thru 2023 Bears save $6M on 2020 cap (really $4.5M)" Just to put a damper on things. " By comparison, the Texans are expected to have over $117 million in cap room. The projected league average entering Week 17 is $49.8 million. The 2020 salary cap is expected to be between $196.8 million to $201.2 million " And for all the math nerds if no one has ever been here. https://overthecap.com/calculator/
  19. Start of the season there were hopes of things unseen. Now we saw and hope has left the building. On to next year I guess.
  20. "The offense looked best in the Dallas game. Defense looked best in the Vikings game." Hard to root for a team that has a season like the Bears have had this year. I don't want to root for only players again as I did for the first ten years of Payton. I want to root for team wins all year long. Things need to change again.
  21. Sorry for cutting into your FFB thread, but if an opening comes up next year you can put me on the list for consideration.

    Neat story

https://www.chicagobears.com/news/bears-fans-uncover-long-lost-footage-of-historic-game You never know what old houses have tucked away.
  23. It's such a grind, not only every season, but every game. One teams starts out on a tear and then everything changes during three plus hours of back and forth. And thru the whole season. Add players who's name I was not used to showing up big. I'm at a loss for how to digest this season. Such high hopes then feeling like we're scratching the bottom of the barrel. Now they are starting to look like a real football team again. Do I get excited like I did at the start of the season or just view the last games, notice how I did not say how many. LOL. Or just view the rest of the season like I would any other teams games. I've lost the joy I had for this team when the season started. Now I have to wait till next year to get my hopes up again.
  24. There is no more proof of how important line play on both sides of the ball is than this season. No offensive line no offense. No Def. pressure from the down linemen no game changing turnovers on defense. In my ignorant opinion the three most important positions. QB, OL, DL. You should have a constant flow of picks every year. And if you hit on them more than once you can use that for future trades. Like getting gas in a car. You don't wait till your broken down on the side of the road before you refill the tank. Seems like we are broken down on the side of the road.
  25. "Nagy cited an example against the Lions two weeks ago when a long pass was called. Trubisky realized it wasn’t there and completed a shorter throw to Allen Robinson. “We had called a shot two games ago to go downtown against Detroit and they took it away,” Nagy said. “Well, he went ahead and dropped it down to 12 yards to Allen Robinson for a first down. To me, that’s a huge step in the right direction. I’m seeing a lot more of that, which I appreciate and for me that’s a huge stepping stone.” Trubisky agrees that he’s making strides." I've become so critical of Trubisky's play that I can't read anything about how things are going without becoming super critical. Take that quote from Nagy. He's relating a play from over two weeks before about how Mitch went to his 2nd read and that's progress. A "huge stepping stone" for a Pro QB in his third year. What am I missing that makes me have no hope.
