Nice. At this rate, the real draft will have happened before this mock is done.

Is there a time limit for people to make their picks?
-
I absolute love Griffin. I drool over the thought of him holding down the fort at SS for a long time, however, I think all three of the top safeties (Landry, Nelson, Griffin) will be off the board by the Pats second pick. Falcons will swoop on Laron, Nelson will go to either Carolina or the Jags, and I really think NE goes after Griffin with #24.

What I meant was the not NFL material college players, who lack technique to make players move. College systems can just use a huge OG standing in place without problem, that is the type of player he was in college, a beast in his zone, but akward out of it. That's nice and alot of teams value the stand still mauler type, I just dont see that type as being worthy of a first rounder. You get by in college on brute strength, size, and some technique, but in the NFL youre also going to need to be versatile in blocking schemes and athletic along the line if youre a high pick. Let me also clarify this, I never said he was a bad player, just that I dont want us picking up a strict OG with our first pick. Ive seen him in around a handful of games, along with his Senior Bowl performance, and came away with the impressions that he's a good player, just not a versatile OL that would be worthy of that first pick. He is a phone booth blocker, and I personally feel a highly picked OG HAS to be able to pull and move athletically along the line, I don't see that type of player in him. One last time clearly, because my posts were long, and Im sure a few points get lost in reading them, he is a good player, and he will be a good OG, but I don't feel a strict mauler-type OG is worthy of a first rounder, especially when we have much more pressing needs at SS and OLB. I think my feeling on the situation was plainly and simply expressed in my "okay enough" speech. Blalock would be a much better OL pick with our first rounder, and like I said, he is the type of guy I like early on IF we entertain the thought of grabbing an OL early. Like I said, some like chocolate, some like vanilla, it's just something I feel strongly about when I say that Sears wouldnt be a good pick for our teams needs, and that there will be OL's that fill the need for youth and depth later on. I just don't see that in Safety and LB. Safety is very deep, but there are plenty of teams who need one this year, and we should take our pick of the small top tier players(project players like CJ Gaddis will be second day options at S, but we need someone who can step up now) . Also, about Walter Jones, dude is just about as athletic an OL out there, and the same goes for Pace out of college. Pace was so freakishly athletic for a guy his size, he was Heisman candidate. Sears doesnt compare to either of those guys at all, but then again who really does/did?

Who's second pick can I have? I'd like the Falcons.

I could really care less about all the combine stuff when talking abotu O-lineman. They only tell you so much. They will tell you if they are athletic or explosive compared to other o-lineman, but the game played in the trenches isn't something you judge by those numbers. I just perosally came away from watching Sears play exptremely unimpressed. By dominates the college players, and thats nice and all, and I like I said I think he can be a good OG, but I just find him to be a phonebooth blocker, and a slow moving slob. I like My OG's to be able to pull and the like, and I just dont like him moving outside of his zone. He isnt athletic enough to play the tackle spot, and he will get bruned by the pass rushers of the NFL. I think there is enough value at OG with our third pick to think about drafting one in the first anyway. There a bunch of good OG's this year, and I think that depth and youth along the O, while very important for us to fill now, isnt as important to us as SS and LB right now. To go after a OG prospect so early on would be a mistake when there is going to be some good players in the third for us at that spot. I put it this way on another site, I think it comes down to being in an "okay enough" situation in a few areas, and potentially terrible situations in others, when I look at what we go for first. We are "okay enough" at OG with Garza and Metcalf, and "okay enough" at TE with Dez leading the way, and we are "okay enough" at OT with St. Clair as our main backup, but we have a potentially serious problem at Safety again, and with the Briggs situation, we have a potentially serious need at OLB. This year, as I have said many times before, is seriously DEEP at Safety, but it doesn't change the fact that there should be a couple potentially franchise Safetys available with our first pick.

It's feat, no feet. Just look at everything he has done, and compare him to all the top ranked safeties, compare his game tape, and he does everything the other guys do just as well, and in some cases better. What can I say, you like Chocolate, I like vanilla. You are going by draft sites rankings, I'm going by how these guys played when I've seen them. Throw out stats, go by his physical numbers, he's as good as anyone in that second group, throw out his measurements and go by his on field experience maturity, knowledge of his position, and he's still right there with any of those guys. I fully respect your opinion, but Im pretty sure you have never seen the kid play a single down of football, and if you have, it's VERY limited. I respect your opinion completely, but I am going to say if those other guys in that second group can go in the second round, then so can he, because he is just as good a player and has just as good of tools as any of them. He is not a project player. He is a ready Safety. There is no project there, just player. The guy has worked VERY hard every offseason to prove so. Please read all the draft sites you want, and slot players according to what you read, but history will go to show, it is a very flawed way to judge a player. Like I said, look at the history of the draft, and you'll see a long history of oversights, false statements, and poor player ratings. You'll also see players don't always go where theyre slotted, and as of late, there have been a lot of huge surprises in terms of where they end up on draft day. Where was Jon Scott rated last year, where did he go, how about Mark Anderson, what about Dusty Dvoracek, or Danieal Manning, and so on and so forth...
-
I really have to question wether youve actually seen Josh play, because saying he has horrible instincts is a downright false statement(I guess it must have been between his 10 ints. the last two years, and 82 tackles with 8 for losses this year, and being his teams leader on D). Also horribly overrated? By whom? Not one draft board has him higher than the other guys I listed, and his career matches and most cases surpasses the others. He has all the physical tools, the resume, the makeup, THE INSTINCT, and the experience, to be a very good safety in the NFL. If anything the kid is horribly underrated, and come draft day, I think everyone will see that the draft sites, and the like are a horrible way to judge where a player goes. Like I said, whos to say if a player is a reach or not, it's all about the NFL teams picking the players they want, where THEY have them ranked. Am I saying Gattis is an early second round rated player, no, but I am saying he is horribly underrated, and some team will recognize that and go after him early. He doesn't have to be rated there to get picked there, just look at the history, and you'll see A LOT of cases of people being slotted way down the list, being picked early, and making just about everyone look foolish. I saw Hester rated as an ealr ythird rounder, so he was not a reach, and as I said last year, he was a great pcik where we took him. As for Manning, he was slotted in the second day by most up until draft day where he was moving up everyones board, based on time frames, looking at last March he would have been a much bigger reach in the early second than Josh would this year. Harris is rated as a second rounder, so iagain it depends on what team wants him the most. It's not about ratings on draft day, last year we saw A TON of players expected to be picked first day slip into the second, and vica versa, it's just about teams getting the player they want, and feeling they get good value out of the selection. Everything past the top 10-20 is really in the air, seriously, just look at past rankings, and opinions before and after that draft, and you'll see that. I personally, think Poz sucks monkey balls, so I'm not going into the LB's as youre taste obviously differs from mine. However, I will add that neither Timmons, nor Poz will be there for us in round one, and if they were, I think THEY would be terrible pciks. Different strokes for different folks I guess, but you are WAY off on everything you said about Gattis. You calling him overrated is a real laugher. I really don't think youve seen him play, really.
-
Kinda like all the fans last year who were so right about us having a terrible draft. I have Harris in the same pack and Siler, and Timmons, and those guys are scheduled to go in the first. I honestly like David more than either of those guys, and LB is a "must fill" position, and it is a "must fill with a ready and talented player now" position. On to Gattis. He is not only a supremely talented stud athleticly (he has said almost every team he has talked to had him from 4.42-4.4 rather than 4.5 at the combine), but he is a genuinly good person and very experienced and smart at his positon. Most Safety rankings go Landry, Nelson, and Griffin, with a dropoff(Not much as Safety is a VERY deep spot this year), to Meriweather, Rouse, Weddle, Wendling, Piscitelli, then Gattis. However, having wathced these guys play, I have a very different set of ranks for this position. The first three are a given, there's no denying they are the supreme talents at the position this year. After that I have them in order like this.... Gattis Wendling Rouse Meriweather Weddle Piscitelli Argue however you will, I am firmly planted on how I feel about each player and what each does. Gattis is just my prototype safety. Big (6-1, 206), can lay the lumber, cover VERY well(neck and neck with Nelson, Meriweather, and Griffin in coverage), and knows his positon as well as anybody in the country. His work ethic is fantastic, and he's a nice change of pace fromt he ego driven, BS thug athlete of today. I wouldn't be dissapointed one bit if we got him with our second pick. He may not be slotted there by the experts, but look at our last two early second round picks, and you'll see neither of them were either. I wouldn't call it a reach at all. Here's a quote from Josh from last June, so I think he may be closer to our radar than most think... About Sears. He is fat, slow, and quote me here, WILL NOT PLAY RT IN THE NFL (At least not very well). I think people give him way too much credit because they think he will be able to fill in at guard AND have a future at tackle, and IMO, he will be a good guard, but has no future at the tackle position. Like I said, the guy is a slob, and I dont like those kind of O-lineman. Now Justin Blalock would be a fantastic pick, as I do envision him as a RT down the road becuase he is a beast AND is very athletic. Blalock and Ugoh are two very athletic guys for their frames. About the picks. Who has two teams that would let me have one of theres??? Let me know and Ill tell you ASAP. Any chance I can have the Falcons Zoom?
-
I think it's all about Quinn V. Russel right now for them. They will pcik up an OL in the second. There's a few good guys slotted late 1st-early 2nd(Ugoh, Staley, Sears, Blalock, Kalil, Grubbs). Oh yeah, nice to be back. Been a damn long while. Wish I wouldve visited sooner so I couldve gotten in on this, but good luck to all anyway. Oh yeah, whoever has the Bears, please don't pick Sears, I can't stand him. Go David Harris, and Josh Gattis 1 and 2.

Im just going to say the same thing I did to all the wagon circling fools that I did during the preseason. Shut the hell up and stop overreacting. Call me a kool-aid slurper, sheep, what have you, I dont care. I am sick of all the idiot fans all over the place. There's more than enough blame to go around for what happened last week, drive killing dropped passes all over that field, dropped punts, bad blocking, Todd Johnson etc........ Just please stop acting liek we are a 1-7 team with no chance. Ive heard things like,"this team is not a true contender" and "we have no chance", so many damn times after our first loss all season my head is ready to esplode. Yes, I said esplode. End Rant.

This really blows. I wish we had done what I wanted to happen before the season started, and that is to convert Wesley to S, as he already has coverage skills, and is a big time hitter, it just made sense to me. He could have always jumped back up to CB if need be, as he had the experience there it wouldnt have been a huge hurdle. Maybe now we'll try and covert him or Maxey to S, which wouldnt be a bad idea at all with each being able to run as well as be physical. Maxey has a dull future at CB with his tight hips and inability to cover shifty receivers, but he could very well be a plus safety. He would beable to keep plays in front of him, and use natural reactions better than he is able to with guys up close in his face, and he has always been able to lay the lumber. He was a safety when he first started at the U, and a lot of people saw that as his best spot on the field. Anyway, I know Harris can do a better job than Todd, and hopefully Brandon gets back and shoves Cammy out of town. Harris impressed me a lot with his improved coverage early on, and at SS I like him a lot, but were going to have an uphill battle replacing Brown.

Mark Anderson, 5th round pick, 1st round job
HoofHearted replied to southsider2k5's topic in Soldier Field
He actually ran a 4.6 40, but still.... Also, I never forgot him, I thought he had gone much earlier, and then in the fourth round I saw his name still on the board and brought it up here in draft chats and a couple other places. Then when he fell to us all the way into the fifth, I was sure he would be our pick. Yes, Ill take credit for us drafting him, I mean obviously JA was reading the couple of boards I was posting on talking about "whoever gets Mark Anderson is going to ge tthe steal of the draft." -
Looks like its Airese's foot yet again. Man thats a tough injury to get over, lets hope that arch heals up nicely for next camp without surgery. Maxey is a very good pickup, Devon will have a familiar face around, and I have to wonder if he'll play any WR as he has very good wheels. LINKY Also, Maxey to me looks like he could be a good safety project. At worst he adds speed there, and I find it hard to believe he could be any worse than Cam or Todd. He has very good size/speed and is strong for a CB(put up as many reps as D. Man). People talked about how we should move Tillman to FS before the season and I laughed at that, but to me it makes A TON of sense to convert Marcus. He isnt loose enough in the hips to play CB, but he could be excellent when moved back where he could react more naturallly and not get tied up by quick moves. He could stay behind the play and read and turn if needed, but most importantly he wouldnt get juked to his seat when he can see a play developing and wait, rather than be right up against the hard moves.
-
Franchise tag him, and trade him.
-
So I guess there was some good evidence after all. At least good enough to make him think the chances were good that he would be found guilty. He got off with a slap on the wrists from the law, lets hope the same happens with the NFL. Ahhh.... What money can do. linky

This sucks as Jamar was a total stud on ST for us. He went all out, and his athleticism will be missed up the middle against returns. I wish we would have signed Terna Nande, but our staff has a hard on for Wilson. Personally, I thought he was terrible when everyone was raving about him this preseason. Between the couple good plays he made, he was missing tackles left and right, being out of place, and getting completely thrown off by PA's. He also isnt very fast, but he can play an inside role on ST I guess. I really wish we would sign Terna as he would be a great ST cog with his great speed and strength , but thats probably a pipe dream. Im just going to say this, Rod Wilson is garbage, and at getting the chance to get Nande is too good to pass up with the situation were in, needing to replace a ST LB. linky
-
Well, Johnson wont be back this season, he's been IR'ed, so dont get your hopes up.
-
4.49 to be almost exact, 4.5 is about league average, and his game speed is nowhere near a 4.5. Like some people play well above timed results, he is the kind that plays well below his in games. He is slow, if youve seen him play, and not just payed attention to workout numbers, dude looks like hes a robot running slow motion in and out of routes. Seriously, he is garbage, so Im not going any further in any argument about how much he blows. At least Gage can be depended upon to make the clutch catches, and if nothing else he is a well above average possesion guy, whereas Darius couldnt hold onto a pass in the clutch if his life depended on it.
-
Why? Darius is garbage. Id take any reciever on this team, any day of the week and twice on Sunday before I even glanced in his direction. I doubt there's a big bidding war for the services of a slow, unreliable, and just overall extremely mediocre reciever. At least Gage brings above average possesion size and hands, Currie has the rediculous measurables with unlimited upside and potential. Tell me why you cut either of those guys for someone who couldnt make a roster over David Kircus and Todd Devoe. Seriously, I hate to burst the bubble of those who think we would be adding an experienced reliable receiver in this guy, but he is nowhere near either of those descriptions. Expecting anything other than mediocrity from Darius is stupid, so I'll stick with the guys who already know our system, and have better potential than him.
-
Id rather Get Calico, because he has more upside and can be had without trading away a pick. Given, Ty doesnt have health and consistency on his side, but what he could be is more than worth a short incentive laiden contract. It shocked me that a team like the Titans, who could stand to give him a chance, just gave up on him though, but all the injuries must have worn them thin enough to keep bobbles wade over him.
-
This is false. The cut and resigning doesnt get you out of the traded pick. As long as he plays one game on the Browns roster, or is placed on IR, we get the pick. And considering he is as of now their number one center(I have a very good feeling Fraley will start by week three), I dont see any chance of him being cut. Larry Mayers explanation.
-
I doubt we sign a backup TE who cant block. On the other hand, there are some very good blocking TE's available, if Lovie and Co. wanted to replace Gilmore.
