Mims fumbles the kickoff, gets crushed at the 4 yd line. Broncos can't move the ball, Stroman makes a great open field tackle on a screen to force 4th down. Short Punt, Bears start in Broncos territory. This is where the Bears have to capitalize, 7 pts is needed here. Take advantage of the field position when you have it.

Look at the YPC, Roschon is at least a yard better. Monty had 2 yards on 8 rushes, and 21 of his rushes were 3 yards or less, but because he had 3 TDs everyone is saying how amazing he is. On any of his big runs, there were huge holes where he wasn't touched for 8 yards. Monty is good for squeezing out a half of a yard extra on a run where he was too slow to get thru the hole, thus gaining back the half yard he lost.

Back to Fields. My question now is, what makes the Bears keep Fields? At this point he would have to have a Josh Allen or Jalen Hurts type season for the remainder of the year for them to keep him and draft around him next year. There is no way they can pass on Caleb Williams if Fields is mediocre or just average this year. Right now he has played like one of the worst QBs in the league, so just getting to average may seem like a huge jump, but I think the only thing that would stop the Bears from drafting a QB is if Fields looks like the guy with those huge explosive runs who can also pass for 250+ yards every game consistently. Defenses needs to be on their heels, not look like they are the offense. If he can't do that, I feel like he is gone. So something like 6 wins or less and he is gone, 7-9 wins depends on if he looks elite, and 10+ he is probably safe. So things do not look good for Fields in most cases as College QBs cook all over the place.

Fields WR Corps may have been one of the best ever with Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, and Jameson Williams all on the team at the same time in 2020. USC has some decent WRs, but not like that. I have started to watch some older games on Williams and he is totally different QB than Fields. Both QBs had some easy throws or sometimes a ton of time in the pocket. However, Williams has a lot more throwing guys open and throwing before the guy is open plays. Fields has very few of those. Outside of the deep balls, where Fields is probably better, Fields almost has no intermediate game and very little in the middle of the field. You are down on Williams because he lost a bowl game where he threw for 462 yards and 5 TDs, with 1 INT? Those are some high standards. The problem now is the timeline, this team is not a year or two away, so Fields rookie contract in its 3rd year is not in line with the rebuild peak (probably 2026). Getting a QB next year after you have built enough key positions thru the draft is more conducive to a long term plan.

Claypool a healthy scratch, ESB playing on his birthday. Bears by 20! The Bears have not won a game since they traded for Claypool, coincidence or not? If they win today without him, they need to look for a trading partner and get that toxic guy out of the locker room. So this guy was clueless last year, was doing fashion shows in the offseason, actually looked solid in practices, then had one of the weakest games you will ever see in Week 1, followed it up with a TD in TB, then disappeared again in KC. This dude has god gifted physical traits to dominate as a WR in the NFL, yet he plays soooo weak. It's time to cut sling and move on from this clown.

Williams is at the Andrew Luck level. Fields did that for a few games, but Williams does it EVERY game. Even if Fields improves, if the Bears have a chance to get Williams, you can't pass on him. I would say you trade Fields for whatever you can get (maybe a 3rd if Lance was a 4th). Williams is in another tier right now. It is hard to see him fail in the NFL.

Yeah, next year is the year, I am just hoping that they can gain even more draft capital at the deadline. Move Eddie Jackson, Whitehair, Jones, and any other vet not in their long term plans. I would even consider moving Mooney or Johnson if they are not looking to extend them, but I would extend both. Claypool just needs to go now, he has been a cancer and the Bears have yet to win with Claypool on the roster. For mistakes, those are the two big ones. I would say not addressing the O-Line adequately and vet depth at Safety. The 2nd rounders really need to step up, Brisker has played pretty bad, Dexter hasn't done much, and Stevenson has been the only bright spot. Gordon looked good in the preseason, but he was terrible last year. So who knows what the Bears have there. I like Wright and I can't blame Poles for going that route, but that was not BPA, Carter was. Either way, I like getting the trenches fixed, so I hope they go DL and OL again in the first 3 rounds in 2024. If the Bears are bad, say bottom 5, that is a top 37 pick in the 2nd, and top 70 in the 3rd. So they will have 3 in the top 37 and with Carolina's 2nd in 2025, they will have 3 in the top 45 (their 1st, CAR 2nd, their 2nd), and 4 in the top 75. So technically they will have 8 picks in the top 75 of the next two drafts. So we may not even see much improvement until after the 2025 draft. Maybe 2023: 6-11, 2024: 9-8, 2025: 11-6

A 5'8" 188 lbs back put up 200 yards of rushing on the Broncos with 2 TDs, with 2 more TDs coming from 4 receptions for 30 yards. Mostert put up 82 yds, and their #3 back put up 66. It would almost be unfathomable to think that Roschon can't get 100 yards on like 18 carries, Herbert gets 80 on 12. Roschon is a really good blocker too. Poles found a gem there.

He is a good pickup as he will probably be featured more and more as the year goes on.

That applies almost every year unfortunately. If you are a Sox fan, you basically get 365 days of use between the Sox and Bears.

Poles top 5 FA acquisitions by Cap Hit: 1. Tremaine Edmunds - $14.7M 2. Yannick Ngakoue - $10.4M 3. Justin Jones - $7.4M 4. Nate Davis - $6.9M 5. DeMarcus Walker - $6.4M That is really a very unproductive group. Poles needed at least 3 of these guys to produce. His best signing has been Billings at $2.7M. Rasheem Green has been terrible. Poles decided to keep Robinson over Lewis, and Robinson has done nothing. It feels like his Pro Player Personnel scouting is terrible. There have been a bunch of edge rushers for contracts similar to Walker and Green that have produced (Arden Key, Samson Ebukam, etc). Hell, Markus Golden signed a 1 year, $1.3M deal with the Steelers and has 2 sacks in 3 games. He never addressed safety or brought in vet depth in the secondary, now the Bears are running out UDFAs and guys they just signed from other team's practice squads. Tough business but Poles has to be better. He signed Foreman to a $2M deal for him to be a healthy scratch the last 2 weeks. You can miss on a few, but you can't miss on most, because once you add injuries to the situation, you end up where the Bears are now.

If I used PFF, I would weight it much less. Basically make all grades into a 100 point scale, then weight them, then divide by the number of different metrics and you get a new score up to 100 using all the scores. Like if I weighted 1-5, PFF would be a 1, QBR probably a 5.

Johnson’s rushing data among 52 NFL running backs with at least 15 rushing attempts and Johnson’s receiving data among 45 NFL running backs with at least 30 receiving snaps. NFL RB Rushing & Receiving Roschon Johnson PFF Rushing Grade: 78.0 (No. 12) YPC: 5.3 (No. 11) 10+-Yard Rushing Plays: 3 (T-No. 23) 10+-Yard Rushing Play %: 17.7% (No. 8 ) 1st-Down + TD %: 29.4% (No. 11) PFF Receiving Grade: 57.8 (No. 25) Target % – YPRR: 28.2% (No. 3) – 1.44 (No. 5) aDot: 0.6 (No. 14) I like when PFF actually used real stats and metrics. As you can see, Roschon is a top 12 back right now. Getsy needs to ride him, mix in Herbert and Fields, and kill teams on the ground.
