So Gordon got completely shredded last night on multiple plays (no help from Jackson on one of them), but the alternative in the 2nd Round was a WR. There were 6 WRs selected after Gordon in the 2nd Round (and before Velus Jones). Here are there stats after 2 weeks: Wan'Dale Robinson 1-5 John Metchie - no stats Tyquan Thornton - no stats George Pickens 2-26 Alec Pierce - no stats Skyy Moore 1-30 Pickens may have the best chance to pan out, maybe one of the injured guys does, but I don't know if any of them would help our putrid offense right now. If Mooney has only 2 receptions, most of these guys wouldn't even have a target on the Bears yet.

So now after this one I have concerns about Fields. 11 Pass attempts in a double digit loss. On the 4 and goal missed sneak drive, I don't even know if he attempted a single pass. He is now getting to historic levels of bad and even I am making excuses for him. Bad O-Line, no WRs, etc, etc. However, no other QB with comparable situations is doing this bad. For comparison, Mitch was in a new scheme with a new HC in Year 2 and didn't have stinkers like this. In no way am I writing Fields off after 2 weeks, but man, he needs to shows something soon. Fields had the lowest QBR ever for a QB last year and has now opened up this year WITH AN EVEN LOWER QBR (24.0) only higher than Maker Bayfield (23.8) who has been awful. The same bad trend line has not moved. He has a couple of blips but his overall pattern trends as a mediocre NFL backup.

The refs again impacted the game. If you look at all the big GB plays, they are blatantly holding and are rarely called. On the Gipson sack, he was literally mugged, they called a penalty, then picked up the flag. That may not seem like a big deal but it's 2 more yards. Then on the long screen that followed, 2 OLinemen were past the LOS before the pass, which is a penalty, again, not called. Once I saw that on back to back plays, I knew it was game over. On their longer punt return watch the blocker launch our gunner past the punt returner (from behind) just because he was already running that way doesn't not make it a block in the back. No call. Then on the Fields no TD. On replay, you can see the ball. The Bears are still to blame, but the officials are undefeated.

At this point, you just have to stop the bleeding so it doesn't end up 50-10. The defense has just completely folded. Some missed holds, but not 3 TDs worth. I am confused by some of the routes, Mooney has yet to get a reception past the LOS. Like how is that possible? Kmet gets first target and he drop it. There have been some crazy comebacks today. Bears would need to score a TD coming out of the half, then a quick stop, and another TD by the offense to make this a game. I doubt that happens. At this point, I am just hoping the defense doesn't allow more than 40.

Feels like last week, almost nothing going right for the team in the first half. Gordon getting burnt left and right, always a step slow. Entire defense can't stop the run, and offense can't even get anymore positive plays. So odd to abandon what worked in the first drive. Monty has been barely used since. Game already over at half 24-7.
-
Bears defense had GB at a 2nd and 28 and let up a 22 yard pass. Then it was all Aaron Jones. Huge holes. Bears down 17-7.
-
They are not calling holding at all. GB held on the same play where Brisker got illegal contact downfield. No call.
-
Bears first drive, great run blocking, Monty unleashed for some nice runs. Big pass to EQ for 30. Fields runs it in on a designed bootleg. Bears up 7-3. TDs vs FGs.
-
First drive, Bears defense forces a FG after two questionable calls. First Vildor gets called for 15-yards for a chop block when he didn't touch anyone and looked to be trying to evade a block. Then Morrow breaks up a contested catch and knocks the ball out on a throw to Jones, but they rule it a catch. I guess completing the process of the catch all the way to the ground only applies to the Bears. Blackson with a nice TFL, Gipson with a sack that ends the drive, Gordon with a PBU in the end zone. Some nice plays. Outside of those two plays, GB should've punted.

Lamar back to MVP form, Fields can play like this, he just needs to be unleashed. Either DET is ok or WAS is terrible. Wentz is god awful one minute and looks amazing the next. Poor Mitch. 15-24, 120 yds, 1 INT, 3 sacks, looks lost. Mac Jones is going to beat him. IND looks terrible wow. Matt Ryan is done, looks worst than Rivers. Lawrence is abusing their defense, which is shocking, great game for him though. Flacco vs Brissett, what a barn burner there. First team to stay awake wins. Daniel Jones vs Mayfield, barn burner 2.0. The game of the injured RBs (McCaffrey and Barkely, who gets injured first?) Has anyone seen Brady lately, looks like Skeletor (see He-Man in the 80s). Seeing all these teams, none look like guaranteed wins against the Bears outside of maybe BAL right now.

In regards to Herbert: 40 attempts and 6.0 or fewer air yards per attempt is terrible. Big Ben got most of those the last year of his career when he had no arm left. Goff has always had a noodle arm. You don't want to be in this group. Herbert shows so crazy ability but then ends up with stats like this. He feels more like Cutler than Mahomes/Allen, etc. Can you imagine what Fields would do with Allen, Williams, and Ekeler?

First pro game, very limited experience, and he is already scouting tendencies against veteran OLinemen? Geez, talk about upside. I could see it being him and Gipson as the starting Edge rushers next year (or maybe even by the trading deadline).
-
Yeah, that was so bad of a call. I am surprised they didn't call it on the Bears in the KC/LAC game.
-
It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for them!
-
I am totally messing with you. If I lost I wouldn't be digging anything up lol.

Anyone want to change their prediction for 5-6 wins now? ?

I feel like comparing anyone to Mahomes is not fair, especially Fields. I don't think he will ever get to that level. However, I still think he can be a top 10 QB with top 5 upside with a higher floor than most other QBs due to his escapability. I don't think he is going to be a perennial 300yd passer, which will keep the national media narrative going. I don't know what the obsession is with Fields. He was the 4th QB drafted and not even in the top 10. The spotlight should be on Lawrence, Wilson, and Lance. Case 1 - Lamar Jackson has started (and had 10 attempts) in 49 games in his career. In 24 of those games (basically half), he failed to throw for 200 passing yards. Only 2 of his 24 games under 200 were with 30 or more attempts, which is good. He only has 4 games over 280 passing yards. In his starts, he averages 202 passing yards per game. Case 2 - Jalen Hurts has started 20 games in his career. In those games he has failed to throw for 200 yards 10 times (50%). 3 of his 10 games under 200 were with 30 or more attempts. He has thrown for over 280 in 5 games. He averages 215 passing yards per game. Case 3 - Kyler Murray has started 47 games in his career. He has thrown for less than 200 passing yards only 13 times. However, in 8 of his 13 games under 200 were with 30 or more attempts (that's bad). He has 14 games over 280 passing yards. He averages 248 passing yards per game. Fields - 11 starts, 6 games under 200 yards passing, and 2 games over 280. He has only 1 game under 200 passing yds with 30 or more attempts (TB loss 38-3). Fields looks to be a mix between Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts. Murray is way more of a pocket passer than any of them, and that is why his bad game percentage is so high. When he is bad, he is terrible. Still a very small sample size for Fields (not even an entire season starting yet). Now in comparison with his rookie class, Lance has zero 280 yard passing games in his career, and 2x 50-yard rushing games (in 3 games started). Wilson has 1 280 yard passing games and 1x 50 yard rushing games. Lawrence, the most game ready QB, has started 18 games and has 3x 280 yd passing games and has never rushed for more than 39 yards in a game. How about Mac Jones, one of the NFL's top 100 players? In 18 starts, he has 4x 280 yard passing games, and his highest rushing game is 33 yds. Fields - 18.2% of games with 280 passing yards, 18.2% of his games with 50 or more rushing yards Lance - 0% of his games with 280 passing yards, 66.6% of his games with 50 or more rushing yards Wilson - 7.7% of games with 280 passing yards, 7.7% of his games with 50 or more rushing yards Lawrence - 16.7% of games with 280 passing yards, 0% of his games with 50 or more rushing yards Jones - 22.2% of games with 280 passing yards, 0% of his games with 50 or more rushing yards Lawrence and Jones both have 18 starts, followed by 13 for Wilson and 11 for Fields, and lastly 2 for Lance. Lawrence and Jones have been the most stable and started every game, so they are already getting close to who they are going to be. I think Wilson, Lance, and Fields all need more games to really show who they are. However, it just feels like Fields has the most consistent upside of the group.

They are running out of ways to rip the Bears. I saw someone post about how Fields had the longest Time to Throw for Week 1, implying that he can't read defenses and is holding onto the ball too long. They don't watch the games. They watch a few highlights look at the stats, and make a snap judgement, especially when it is negative about the Bears.
-
It depends on which rule they applied. The unsportsmanlike was for bringing a "foreign object" onto the field. There was some other discussion about the 5 yard variety, but that would have been a different call.
-
Reiff is on the injury report with a shoulder, so that may be why they want someone else like Schofield that can play T or G.
-
We have a secret weapon or 3. Getsy + Patrick + St. Brown. They know tendencies, strengths and weaknesses from the inside. Getsy knows exactly how to attack his old defense and where they are weak. He also knows the offensive schemes. I know they can easily change these up but the overarching theme is the same. The best part for our offense is that last week's game was so bad with the weather that there is virtually no clean tape on the Bears offense. That is a bonus going into this type of game. We need every tangible and intangible edge we can get. We are underdogs and expected to lose. This one sets up even better than Week 1 does.
-
Jenkins was one of the highest graded players for Week 1 for the Bears and 8th Guard. Here he is laying out Bosa, then making the block ahead of Fields.
-
Seemed surprising but just like with the recent waiver acquisitions, I will hold judgement for a bit.
