    Scouting 49ers

For Week 1, I would rather face Lance than Jimmy G. Our defense has great edge rushers, speedy LBs, solid CBs, and Brisker and Jackson roaming. I think Smith is going to play angry. Lance is gonna have issues. The team that makes less mistakes wins.

Btw, if you haven't seen, the other young QBs have looked terrible for the most part. Lance did nothing, Love, Mills, and Jones threw picks, Wilson was bad and now hurt. Lawrence was ok, about the same as Fields so far.

    T. Jenkins

The last update I saw it was an undetermined timetable but hopeful he would be back for the opener. Without any news, especially considering they are so big about a ramp up period, I can't see him playing in Week 1 if he is not at least at practice starting on Monday.

Last year, in a Matt Nagy offense, Mooney was 10th in targets, 18th in receptions, 17th in yards, and 19th in 1st Downs amongst WRs. He did that with 3 rotating QBs. If there are about 25+ WR1s in the league, I don't know what else he would need to do to qualify. What is funny is that a guy like Terry McLaurin is seen as a true #1, but check out how close their numbers are: Targets: 140v130 Mooney, Receptions: 81v77 Mooney, Yards: 1055v1053 Mooney, TDs 5v4 McLaurin Is he at the Kupp, Jefferson, Adams level? No, but those are All-Pro, Perennial Pro-Bowl WR1s. However, I think he comes in as a lower-tier WR1 with the likes of McLaurin, DJ Moore, Pittman, etc.

Just from a target share perspective, around 65% of the targets will go to your top 3 skill players, for the Bears probably WR1, TE1, RB1. At the end of the day, that 4th target will likely only see only 10-12% of the targets for a game/season. That amounts to 4-5 targets per game and 40-50 per season. Last year, in a terrible offense, Mooney was at 25.8%, 17.1% to Kmet, and 12.2% to ARob (who missed 5 games). I assume Mooney will be up to 29%, Kmet up to 21%, and Monty will take some of ARob's and jump to 12%. Monty had 9.4% last year. Goodwin averaged less than 3 targets a game, Byrd just over 2, and Graham under 2 per game. Those were targets 5, 6, and 7 who totaled 7 targets a game. So once you take Pringle and Jones, add someone like Griffin and Herbert, there are not many targets left for Sharpe, St. Brown, Harry, Ebner, etc.
  6. They just need to replace guys at the bottom end of the roster if there are better players available. Normally that is associated with the last WR, DB, LB, DL, and OL positions.

I am rooting for the kid. He is saying all the right things. There is no shame in being an All-Pro Right Guard, just ask Quentin Nelson. Jenkins has barely played the position, so he will only get better from here. Same with Borom. Once Patrick is back, with Whitehair, and unbelievably, Jones, we can see the unit improve as a whole.
  8. We are locked in, all payments received, all keepers submitted. All systems go for draft on the 1st!
  9. He may stick or he may be replaced by another player not currently on the roster. I assume they will stash some of the 7th rounders on the PS.
  10. After watching all of training camp and the preseason to date, I don't think I have ever seen so many draft picks have a chance to make the 53-man roster, especially considering most were 5th round picks or later. 2 39 KYLER GORDON CB WASHINGTON - Obviously a lock for the 53-man 2 48 JAQUAN BRISKER S PENN STATE - Obviously a lock for the 53-man 3 71 VELUS JONES JR. WR TENNESSEE - Obviously a lock for the 53-man 5 168 BRAXTON JONES OT SOUTHERN UTAH - Unbelievable pick if he starts Week 1 as LT and looks good. Pick of the draft maybe. 5 174 DOMINIQUE ROBINSON DE MIAMI (OH) - Another crazy 5th rounder. Might not start, but looks like he will be on the 53-man. 6 186 ZACHARY THOMAS OT SAN DIEGO STATE - Might slide in at the last OT spot depending on how many they keep, otherwise the PS. 6 203 TRESTAN EBNER RB BAYLOR - He is trending towards making the roster, his return ability is a huge plus. 6 207 DOUG KRAMER C ILLINOIS - Looked like he was going to make it before injury. 7 226 JA'TYRE CARTER OG SOUTHERN - Very similar to Thomas, may slide in or the PS for sure. 7 254 ELIJAH HICKS FS CAL - A 7th round Safety that might make the 53-man is shocking. This would be another "pick of the draft" 7 255 TRENTON GILL P NC STATE - Our starting punter who is putting a ton inside the 20. Just based on draft position alone, Jones, Robinson, and Hicks make this an insane draft. Then you add Brisker, Gordon, Jones, and Ebner. This will be a quick rebuild if this draft holds up like this.
  11. Other teams early cuts of note: Joe Schobert - LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe - LB Andy Janovich - FB Albert Wilson - WR The quality of players being cut is sure to go up in the next round of cuts.
  12. I figured Newsome would be gone after the last game. So far, projection looks good.
  13. Waiting on one last GM to confirm. If I don't get a response by the 25th we will need a replacement GM.
  14. Very inconsistent player, seemed like an obvious cut.

    Heads Up

Sweet, I was going to ask about that because I kept getting the upgrade banner at the top.
  16. His sack vs the Chiefs was impressive. He just straight up beat the OT with speed and bend.
  17. If anyone personally knows Ary (The Bunny) or Kam (PapaBear), please reach out to them and let them know our league has been renewed and I need their Keepers.
  18. We have 9 days until our live draft. I would like to have payments done by the end of the month and Keepers done by the 28th so we have a few days to mock draft with the keepers removed. For payment via LeagueSafe, I have received 6 payments and still need 4 more. So if you haven't paid, just make sure you do before the 1st. I am sending out another email reminder, disregard if you have already paid. Thanks, Adam
  19. I am keeping Goedert, TE, for a 15th (drafted in 16th).
  20. Williams is good for a 10th, however, you didn't draft Brown in the 15th, so he is ineligible to keep.
  21. Mongo, you have a keeper conflict: Taylor 2nd > -1 round > 1st Kupp 3rd > -2 rounds > 1st Both players would lose a first. So you will either have to keep Taylor and lose a first, then the next player, you lose two rounds OR keep Kupp and lost a second, and then a second player loses two rounds. Those are your options, or you can just keep one or the other.
  22. What stood out to me was Gipson with 5 FF, Morrow with 9 PD as an LB, Blackson with some nice QB hits, and Quinn is off the charts. Also, there were 43 sacks last year from these 7 players last year: Quinn, Gipson, Jones, Blackson, Muhammad, Smith, and Morrow. That would've been tied for 9th in the NFL last year for an entire team. The entire Bears team had 49 and finished 4th last year. Assuming Quinn comes down to earth, all the other guys stay relatively the same, then add in some other sacks from DBs (Brisker? Nickel?), other LBs (Adams/Thomas/Sanborn), and other DLs (Edwards/Tonga/Robinson), I could see the team hitting 50 sacks this year. Adding just Edwards and Young bumps the total to 47.
  23. What is weird is you can make a case that 12 defenders could be starters on other teams: Jones - starter in LAC, 3 sacks, 5 TFL, 5 QB Hits, 1 PD in 11 games last year Blackson - starter in HOU/ARZ/CHI, 2.5 sacks, 3 TFL, 9 QB hits, 2 PD Quinn - All-Pro/PB, 18.5 sacks, 17 TFL, 22 QB Hits, 4 FF Muhammad - started in IND, 6 sacks, 7 TFL, 13 QB Hits, 1 FF Gipson - production is starter level, 7 sacks, 7 TFL, 7 QB Hits, 5 FF, 2 PD in 16 games. Smith - All-Pro/PB, 163 tackles, 3 sacks, 12 TFL, 4 QB Hits, 3 PD, 1INT Morrow - starter in LVR, 78 tackles, 3 sacks, 8 TFL, 6 QB Hits, 9 PD, 1 INT in 14 games Jackson - starter, 2 PD, 76 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 FF Brisker - 2nd Rounder = starter Johnson - starter, 9 PD, 1 INT, 46 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 FF Gordon - 2nd Rounder = starter Young - starter in BAL, 3 PD, 1 INT, 2 sacks, 4 TFL, 3 QB Hits Others (not starting on other teams): Edwards - former starter, rotational guy Tonga - potential starter DHC - Super Sub Safety Vildor - former starter Thomas - previous starter in GB and DAL Adams - Super Sub LB Graham - potential Starter Cruikshank - solid depth DB Sanborn - potential future starter Robinson - potential future starter Hicks - potential contributor

    T. Jenkins

I went back and watched all of Jenkins snaps for both games. It seems like he starts slow (like he is not ready for the speed), then he kicks it into another gear and plays really well. Outside of 2-3 plays total, he is an above-average RG. With such limited time at the position, he can easily grow into a top 10 RG in the league. I think he is already better than Daniels at run blocking and probably slightly behind in pass pro, but that was Daniels at his peak and Jenkins after 2 limited preseason game snaps.
  25. I think they came to an agreement of "show me what you can do in this defense". If he balls out, he will get paid top money, if he doesn't then he won't. Simple as that.
