  1. This made sense based on the Irvin move. Still crazy that they kept him on the active roster for a month before deciding to do this. The team was basically playing with less players just to carry him on the roster. Same with Trevathan. I am assuming you are going to see a few more "vets" go on season ending IR in the next few weeks to justify bringing up some younger players to evaluate.
  2. Can't hurt, but now it seems like Mack may be out longer, which begs the question, why didn't they put him on IR and gain a roster spot for the last month? So after all the years in SEA, then OAK, Irvin had his most sacks in Carolina, two years ago at 32 with 8.5 and his first safety of his career. So he has at least had recent success even though he hasn't played since an injury early last year.
  3. This is going to be an extremely interesting matchup. Baltimore has the #1 Rushing Offense in the league, but their leading rusher is Jackson. On the flip side they have the worst passing defense in the league allowing 283 yds per game. Foles or Dalton as the Scout Team QB (playing as Jackson) is really going to prepare our defense well lol. Mack hasn't played in almost a month and was still not practicing on Wednesday. Hicks was out, Jackson was out. Trevathan was out. ARob was out. I am hoping this was more of extended rest to get them closer to 100% than anything else. If the Bears can contain Mark Andrews and limit the huge chunk plays to Brown, they have a chance. I am hoping for another solid showing from Fields, but in the end the Bears defense won't do enough. Ravens 31-27.
  4. Yeah, that's the thing. Stafford has won anything and has gained more than half his stats from garbage time and most of his stats while trailing (throwing more often). Fun Facts: Flacco has never had a losing season when he played at least 12 of his team's games. Newton has only 1x 4000 Yard Passing season, his rookie year. In 55 less starts, Dalton has more 4th Quarter Comebacks (23) and the same number of Game-Winning Drives as Aaron Rodgers. Fitzpatrick has only 1x winning season in his career when he started more than 10 games (lol), 10-6 with the Jets in 2015.
  5. I just did top 5 in Active Passing Yards, he is 7th. Flacco is 6th (lol), Fitzpatrick 8th and our own Andy Dalton 9th, and Cam Newton 10th. It goes quickly to mediocre.
  6. What are your thoughts on the next crop of HoF QBs? Is the bar going to get tougher with the inflated stats? The top 5 active QBs in passing yards are Brady, Big Ben, Ryan, Rodgers, and Stafford. Obviously, Brady's HoF status is cemented, but it is interesting to see where the other guys fall in. Big Ben is 2nd in active passing yards (62K), is 2-1 in SB's but in those two games, his WR's got the MVPs (Ward and Holmes). He hasn't appeared in a SB in 11 years. He has the numbers and post-season wins to get a jacket but its been a long time since he was "elite". Not many QBs have 60K passing yards and 2 SB wins though (Brady, Manning, Big Ben). Matt Ryan is 3rd in yards (58K) and is 0-1 in SBs after the infamous 28-3 debacle against NE. To me has been a nice stats compiler but I don't know if he is HoF worthy, thoughts? I say no. Rodgers is 4th in yards (53K) and is 1-0 in SBs and interestingly enough, in his only SB, his offense scored less than the opponent's and they still won thanks to a Pick-6 from his defense. I thought that was a really interesting fact. So Big Ben could've easily been 3-0 if not for that one play. For stats, Favre has 71K passing yards in a different era, and Rodgers still has 4K less passing yards than Eli Manning who has been out of football several years. If Rodgers doesn't at least get to another SB AND passes Favre, does he get in? #2 in the franchise in passing and only 1 gifted SB win? If you took the names off, Ryan and Rodgers look very similar. So if Ryan wins that one, he is in. That is ultimately the difference. Rodgers gets a lot more love in this department as one of the GOATs. Stafford is 5th in yards (48K) and has never won a playoff game (0-3). Most of his stats are garbage time or while trailing when the other team is in prevent. I feel like he would need to win more than one SB to be in consideration. He is the Vinny Testaverde and Drew Bledsoe of this era. A ton of stats and that's it. Thoughts? I assume Big Ben and Rodgers are in, Ryan is not, and Stafford gets in if he wins at least one and ends up top 3 in stats.
  7. I know they made this list age-based, but I don't know if that trend really matters anymore. Just pick the best HC. We don't need the next McVay or Shanahan, neither of them has won anything to date. Also on the list: Bears passing game coordinator/QB coach John DeFilippo, 43 Bears DC Sean Desai, 38 I didn't expect to see any Bears assistants on the list to be honest.
  8. I have heard they might have Jenkins at LT, and then slide Peters into LG where he played some with the Eagles last year. If you then slide Daniels or Whitehair to center, that is a pretty decent group as long as Jenkins can hold his own on the edge. For Jenkins' development, you don't want to put him anywhere he is not going to play. If he is your LT, put him there. With BAL on Sunday, give him until Thanksgiving (next THU) to play so he can get his conditioning up. Also, DET should be an easier opponent than BAL.

    WTF Officials!

It helps when your defense gets a Pick-6 and holds the other team to 10 pts with a 4-0 turnover ratio. Most offenses look great when their defense plays that well. They just chewed the clock with 40+ rushes, then when they stacked the box, they threw some quick slants. I am still not sold on Shanahan. I don't know why he gets the benefit of the doubt for 1 winning season in his last 5 and a 33-40 record. If SF goes 7-1 to finish the regular season, he still would have a losing record. Is he better than Nagy, sure, but is he going to take SF to another Super Bowl, highly unlikely, especially in that division. They have to get thru ARZ, LAR, and SEA every year. Outside of LAR, they beat CHI, DET, and PHI lol. I am sure they will finish around 8-9 or 9-8. They gave up all that draft capital for Trey Lance, but we don't seem to be any closer knowing whether he is legit or not. This is what Jimmy G did:
  10. Not that Fields is not to blame for some of his bad plays, but he has really been unlucky with his INTs. Out of all of them, 2 were on him (CIN and 3rd one in TB), 2 were partially his fault (DET and PIT), but the other 4, 2 on Mooney and 2 on bad calls/coaching (free plays or not). 1 - CIN, LB dropped into coverage, 100% his fault. Rookie mistake. Bad read. 2 - DET, tipped at LOS by incoming LB. Tough to fault him there. Bad luck. 3 - GB, Hard count, GB jumped, no call, thought they had a free play. Bad officials. 4 - TB, Quick snap, was told it was a free play, ARob slips. Bad coaching/luck. 5 - TB, Off both of Mooney's hands, ugh. Can't play volleyball like that. Bad WR. 6 - TB, Under throw to ARob on the sidelines throwing from end zone. Bad throw. 7 - SF, Another Mooney volleyball play, pass was nearly perfect, see pic below. Bad WR. 8 - PIT, Intercepted by DLine on quick throw. Bad luck. This was intercepted:
  11. After Jared Goff's stinker, he now has the honors as the QB with the lowest QBR this season, dropping past Fields to 33rd. QBs as a whole have been struggling this year, Stafford still owns the top QBR this year at 67.1 which is almost 10 pts below the lowest #1 QBR since the stat was created (Palmer 76.4 in 2015). Last year there were 15 QBs over 60, this year there are 8. Not that it matters but it is interesting nonetheless.

The Detroit Stafford reared his ugly head again. Woods was a lot more important to the offense than people thought. OBJ is not going to replace him. They have a decent running game, but McVay doesn't like running the ball. In the 3rd quarter, the Rams had 3 straight 3 and outs and 14 yards of total offense, it was hilarious. They bookended those drives with a turnover on downs in the 2nd quarter and 4th quarter. Those 5 drives yielded 0 points. Then down 31-7 with 3:52 left at the SF 19, they kick a FG! LMAO! You can't make this stuff up.
  13. With the Thanksgiving game only 4 days after BAL, it might make sense to dress Jenkins for BAL, but only use as an emergency, then start him in DET because I don't know how well Peters will recover in 4 days. Then you can re-evaluate after the mini-bye after Thanksgiving to determine if Jenkins is ready or not.
  14. That's what I was thinking. Byrd just didn't work out. I would rather see Adams or Newsome.
  15. This is great news, work him in during the bye. I would work him in as a backup tackle right now. Spell Peters or Borom for a drive here and there to get him back up to game speed. If he and Borom turn out to be bookend tackles, this draft would include Fields, Jenkins, Borom, Herbert, and Tonga which is impressive. They need to bring Dazz back up and get some fresh blood in at WR.
  16. I missed this post. I am glad your wife is back home, I hope she is getting better. If you ever need anything, hit me up on the DM.

    WTF Officials!

So our schedule seems a little easier, BAL just lost, then DET, then ARZ who just lost, GB, MIN, SEA who looks terrible, NYG, and MIN again. GB is the toughest one, but they are beatable. Still probably a 6-7 win team, but none of those games are guaranteed losses.
  18. Yeah good one, I totally missed him.

    WTF Officials!

So this comes out: The phantom low block (that missed) on the Graham TD, the Fields Roughing that Passer (that extends the drive), and the lining up in the neutral zone on the missed FG. 2 out of 3 scoring plays and a scoring drive, all negatively impacted by officials against one team. That doesn't even include the hip check and BS taunting call that led to a PIT score. Unbelievable.

    Rookie QBs

What is pretty remarkable is you can tell this is a good kid, from a great family, but also knows his place. The QB has to have a ton of extra traits and qualities to be special, and Fields is checking them all. As Bears fans, we know what bad QBs look like, and I know we want to temper our excitement over Fields, but damn, he is sure making that hard to do. On MNF, Fields overcame corrupt officials to take the lead and give the Bears a shot with a few seconds left. With how bad that game was called, there was no way the Bears should've been in that position other than for Fields taking over the game. We haven't seen that in a long time.
  21. Arob's catch and drop was great for 7-8 yds a few years ago but now that he can't get separation, it is easy to defend. Fields throwing style is more vertical, which fits with speed and or size. I would love one of the OU guys but it looks like Olave has a first-round grade. That 2nd rounder next year has to go to CB, WR, OC, or S.
  22. There are few decent options this upcoming offseason, but the Bears will have to figure out who they want to pay. At this point the Bears need to get younger. By replacing ARob they can improve and get younger at the same time. Here are a few names that could come in and be potential WR1s if the Bears look to FA for that. Another option is to go by WR1BC and taking a lesser option assuming Fields doesn't need a true #1. 1. Chris Godwin, TB will not be able to afford him, he is 3 yrs younger than ARob and would fit well with Fields style of play. 8th in Rec yards with only 8 games. 50-660-4 TD. 2. Mike Williams, LAC, has 37-575, 15.5 per reception and 6 TDs, 27 yrs old. A bigger WR that compliments Mooney well. 3. Courtland Sutton, DEN, 41-588, 2 TD, 14.3 Y/R, 26 yrs old. Another 6'4" WR. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2nd Tier (WR1/2s): 4. Christian Kirk, ARZ, 40-545, 4 TD, still not even 25 yrs old. Very similar to Mooney, which would create matchup problems. 5. DJ Chark, JAX, just turned 25, can show what he can do with at least a competent QB. On IR for ankle injury, and a slight dip in performance may make him very affordable. 6'4" WR. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3rd Tier (WR2/3s): 6. Tim Patrick, DEN, 34-509, 15.0 Y/R, 4 TD, only a few months younger than ARob but one of the most efficient WRs in the league. I doubt DEN signs both him and Sutton. 6'4" WR. 7. James Washington, PIT, production down from last year but only 25 yrs old with potential. Sub-6' WR, but would be an upgrade over Goodwin/Byrd. Him and JuJu are FA's, doubt they sign both. Honorable Mentions: 8. Smith-Schuster, PIT, out for the season due to injury, hasn't done much and has been injured a lot in last few years. Will be curious to see what he gets. Seems like a great fit with Fields if healthy. 9. Fuller, MIA. This guy looked like a WR1 with Watson in Houston, but injuries have limited him as well. Might come cheaper than expected which would help cap space. He had 53-879, 8 TD in 10 games for HOU in 2020 with 5x 100 yards games. Nuclear Option: 10. Adams, GB. Bears sell the house and only sign Adams and a bunch of vets on league minimum this offseason (assuming Rodgers is out in GB), restructure Mack with some void years to make room for Adams. Get rid of ARob, Graham, and Cohen to pay Adams. Would be crazy with him 6 months older than ARob, but man is he productive and his game style won't age like ARob's has. If they are looking to win in Fields rookie contract window, this would help. Offense would look like this: Fields, Adams, Mooney, Kmet, Monty, Jenkins, Whitehair, New C, Daniels, Borom, Herbert, James. Who says no?

    Refs

Adding insult to injury, the league fined Marsh for the penalty: Yet the corrupt ref who hip checked him gets to collect his gambling earnings on the game. Unbelievable. One good thing about the game on MNF, everyone got to see the Bears get screwed by the refs as it has been a regular occurrence for a few years now.

    Eddie Jackson

Into the bye, one of these guys is getting paid as a top 5 Safety, the other basically making the vet minimum and plays special teams: Jackson - 460 snaps, 40 tackles, 0 INT, 0 PD DHC - 295 snaps, 31 tackles, 1 INT, 3 PD, 1 TD on ST I know some of the media have pointed to the absence of Jackson as a reason for the defense's recent struggles, but they held PIT to 280 total yards? If not for the zebras, the Bears win by 20. The SF game was bad and a terrible game called by Desai, he got schooled by Shanahan, didn't neutralize Deebo, and was ill-prepared for the screen game which gashed them. None of that had anything to do with Jackson. It was not like he was going to tackle Samuel on that long play anyway. The biggest hole on defense is Vildor. He has made a few plays, but has been a reception machine allowing a league-high passer rating of 150.3 when targeted. Shelley on the other hand stood out against PIT, so hopefully he can lock in that Slot Corner position. Looking at roster composition, on defense, CB2 is probably a bigger need than Safety right now. You can't have one player take down the entire defense on almost every other play like Vildor has done.

    Rookie QBs

Depending on how you look at it, he hasn't been the same since his monster game against Indy 5 weeks ago. The last 4 weeks he has thrown for 167, 257, 266, and 238. He ran for 51, 88, 120, and 39 in the last 4. He runs so much (more than their top 2 RBs combined), that is almost makes it easier because on any fake the odds of him getting the ball are higher than him doing anything else. He has 5 INTs in the last 4 games, so that's promising for a Bears defense that went cold on turnovers. If we can get Mack back, a healthy Hicks, and figure out how to help Vildor, the defense should be better than it has in a few weeks. The offense still has the arrow pointed upwards and now gets an extra week to prep specifically for the Ravens. They may still lose but it is going to be a close on either way. One benefit, the Bears are playing at home, which is much easier for a young QB.
