Dalton has thrown more than 30 TDs one time in his 10 year career (2013) and only one season with a QBR over 60 (2015). He has finished with a QBR below 50 (which means below average league starter) in 5 out of 10 seasons. He is literally the picture-perfect slightly below average QB and only plays above average with great pieces around him.

That's all we can look forward to. With COVID, and the lower cap, I think they didn't want to bring in a new regime. So they will get a fresh start with a high draft pick in 2022 because this is a 6 win team with Dalton or Foles at QB.
-
He signed a $3M - 1yr deal with Dallas last year, while we traded a 4th for Foles and picked up his $24M contract. Now we pick up Dalton a year later and pay him more than Foles? Please let this be as a backup and we are trading Foles. It just seems to pay the guy triple what he got last year is quite excessive for a cap-strapped team.

FML:

Trubisky is the top free agent QB.
-
CB Shaquill Griffin a three-year, $44.5 million deal with the Jags
-
Davante Adams had 18 TDs, ARob had 6. ARob is a #1, but he is not top 5.

Pretty cool FA Cheat Sheet. File attached or view here: According to Mike, our lowest unit position is QB (0.4), then S (0.8), then OL (1.6), then CB (2.0), followed by WR (2.4). Checking out some names on his list from those groups: QB (Top 5): Trubisky, Brissett, Dalton, Taylor, Smith. This is funny and sad, Trubisky is the hottest QB on the market. Do the Bears make a run at him? How would he look in Nagy's offense? Safety (Top 10): Harris, Jackson, Harmon, Neal, Hooker, Boston, Woods, Tartt, Vaccaro, Gipson So any player above Gipson would be an apparent upgrade. A few of these guys would compliment Jackson better than HaHa or Gipson did. OT (Top 10): Williams, Villanueva, Schwartz, Fisher, Beachum, Okung, Reiff, Remmers, Peters, Wagner OG (Top 5): Jackson, Incognito, Turner, Reed, Ifedi For OL, we obviously need bookends. I would love to have someone like Williams or Villanueva, but would settle for someone like Reiff at this point, which would still be an upgrade over Massie. CB (Top 10): Jackson, Griffin, Sherman, Hayward, Peterson, Jenkins, Rhodes, Butler, King, Hill With Fuller and Johnson locked in (unless traded), I am surprised this group was this low. So if we brought someone in, I would assume they would be the Nickel or CB3, so I doubt any of those guys in the top 10 would fit that role. WR (Top 10): Smith-Schuster, Golladay, Fuller, Samuel, Brown, Watkins, Hilton, Jones, Brown, Sanders If the Bears do not sign Patterson, I would love to see Samuel signed, who played all over the field for CAR, but is a much better WR than Patterson. If the Bears miss out on the top 10, a few other names that would be upgrades over Miller/Wims at #3 would be Keenan Cole, Josh Reynolds, and Adam Humphries.

Davis at $12.5 doesn't even put him in the top 20 WR deals (for AAV), so that was actually a pretty solid deal for the Jets. Michael Thomas makes $19.25M, Tyreek Hill makes $18M, so the tag value of $17.98M is about right for ARob. I wouldn't mind a deal that averages $20M per year as long as this year was $15M.
-
Corey Davis 3/37.5 to the Jets.
-
Good catch, I forgot about that. So the Bears actually have $190M with carryover:
-
In today's game, burning any years of a rookie deal makes it that much harder to maintain success. Even KC burnt a year of Mahomes' rookie deal, and now they are cutting top O-Linemen to clear cap space.
-
Also, consider they drafted AJ Dillon in the 2nd round.
-
That is a lot of money for an RB. He is now the 6th highest paid RB, behind McCaffrey, Kamara, Elliott, Cook, and Henry. I never saw him in that group. GB is at least $12M over the cap, so expect a lot of restructuring or cuts before Wednesday.
-
The tag is the max the Bears would pay for him to play, so any extended deal with have less of a cap hit, at least in 2021. So if that is the case with him wanting $25M, expect a trade before or on draft day.
-
Another QB slot that needs to be filled. I don't think they will have Hill as the starter, so Winston? They have cap issues. It will be interesting.
-
Under 4M per year, not bad for the production.
-
He played really well in the rotation. The only issue is his suspension to start the season.
-
The Bears can free up about $25M+ more with Fuller (restructure), Hicks (extend/restructure/cut/trade), Robinson (extend), Quinn (restructure), Graham (extend/cut) and potentially Leno (restructure/cut/trade). That would give them around $30M for free agency or a QB trade.
-
Based on Fuller's contract, his seemed like the easiest to restructure, so it is odd that he was not the first one done. This leads to some speculation that he would be part of a trade package if one was brewing because that would allow the new team to benefit from his contract and the Bears wouldn't incur more dead money. Fuller+Miller+several picks for QB?
-
The same rules apply, but you can't designate someone as a June 1st trade prior to June 1st like you can with cuts. If the actual trade occurs after June 1st you get that benefit:
-
June 1st designations are only for cuts so you can apply some of the dead money to next year's cap. You can designate up to 2 players as a June 1st cut to spread any remaining guaranteed money over this year and next year, instead of having to apply the entire thing to this year's cap. I'm not aware of an option when it involves a trade.
-
The Bears were about $20M over after the Santos and O'Donnell deals. So the new conversions only get them $3M under the cap which is not even enough for the rookie pool ($4M). So we should expect more. Graham, Hicks, and Fuller are the prime candidates for restructures, trades, or cuts.
