I like it, he is much more suited to play SS than HHCD was. Gipson is a few inches shorter but the same weight. You are right though, I don't think he has the job day one. He will have to beat some Bush.

I don't understand how they think Dallas can get a 7th round comp pick when Daniel's deal would give us a 6th. I think they have Daniel's deal wrong. He signed a 3-yr $13M contract. The two Dallas players that would give Dallas a 7th are Su'a-Filo and Heath with only an average AAV of $3M. So it looks like they gave Dallas an extra comp and took one from us. I think OTC is correct.

There is only a 32 pick limit for the entire league. So we will only get 3x 6ths next year: https://overthecap.com/draft/ Still not bad, but no 7th as KPL doesn't make the cut. Crazy to think something like 50-100k in the contract is the difference between another comp pick or not. So we will have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 4x 6th rounders. We traded the 4th to draft Gipson and a 7th for Pineiro. Those 4x 6ths are going to give the team a ton of flexibility to move around. I could see them taking a 5th and 6th to move into the 4th, then taking two 6ths to move back into the 5th, which ironically would give them back their 4th round pick for 3x 6ths. Since the 6ths are at the end of the round, they are not much better than an early 7th.

I like our skill position players, but we definitely need a legit RB2. I think our WR corps is set with ARob, Miller, Mooney, Ridley, Wims, and Patterson. Trevor Davis may get some reps too.

The Offensive Line battle is going to be a good one, the team will only keep 8-9 on the 53-man: LT - Charles Leno Jr., Jason Spriggs LG - James Daniels, Arlington Hambright (R), Lachavious Simmons (R) C - Cody Whitehair, Sam Mustipher RG - Germain Ifedi, Alex Bars, Corey Levin, Dieter Eiselen (R) RT - Bobby Massie, Rashaad Coward, Badara Traore I think the 6 in bold are locks, leaving 2-3 spots for the rest. A few guys will slide onto the PS. Spriggs either makes the team or is released.

I agree, there is going to be a purging of TEs and CBs on this roster really quick.

Between Artavis Pierce and Trevor Davis, they may be trying to replace Cohen before he becomes a UFA. I don't think Cohen gets a 2nd contract with the Bears, so it makes sense to start bringing guys in to find his eventual replacement.

Here is something I just realized, there are only 2 QBs drafted in the top 12 from 2011-2016 still on their original teams (Wentz and Goff from 2016). So the 10 QBs drafted in the top 12 picks before those two QBs are all on different teams than the ones that drafted them. I did not expect to see that. So Trubisky moving on is not that uncommon for a high QB selection. With Mahomes and Watson, Trubisky would make it 11 out of 15 from 2011-2017 no longer with their original team. 2011 - Newton, Locker, Gabbert, Ponder 2012 - Luck*, Griffin, Tannehill 2014 - Bortles 2015 - Winston, Mariota *-retired 2010 was Sam Bradford, but I felt that was too far into the past to be relevant now.

He definitely needs to work on his flexibility, but that can be done. He doesn't have much football experience, so he probably just used his size and strength to get by, which won't work in the NFL if you don't have the technique. The good news is you can't teach size and strength, so he has a shot as a developmental guy. Start on the PS for a year or two and then make the roster. I still like how he finishes his blocks.

Yep, I am thinking the same thing. Extend ARob, then add a SS and a vet RB. Jefferson and Freeman would be sweet. Another guy is Tavon Wilson, Safety for the Lions.

They still need to at least add one Safety to the roster. Even if that is a backup. So I still think they will be active in free agency after these post-draft cuts.

It is confusing to me as well. The only thing I can think of is if he does win the job and plays well, they franchise him, which will cost more than the 5th year option, but not enough difference to lose the comp pick over. If he plays well, it's great news and they won't care as much about the money because they have an out with the Foles contract. The only other wild card is the "guaranteed for injury" statement. So if he gets hurt, they are on the hook either way. This may be a factor as well since he just had surgery and the team doctor's have not had a chance to evaluate him yet. I bet they use that as the media stance, which will be weak. Just come out and say he has not lived up to expectations.

We finally got some after a long drought, and we are set to get some more next year. Essentially if you lose a player to free agency (not cut or waived), and that player signs elsewhere for a decent amount, you get a comp pick. However, if you sign someone else's free agent, you end up negating the one you got from losing a player. So the Bears have been signing as many free agents as they have been losing for years. However, Pace had a new approach this offseason. He acquired pretty much every player this offseason without risking a comp pick loss: Graham, Harris, Foles, Burns, Roberson, Mingo, Spriggs, Ifedi, and Lucas. I believe (correct me if I am wrong), but Quinn is the only acquisition that will count against comp picks next year (negating the comp pick for Kwit leaving). However, the Bears will get comp picks for HHCD, Williams, Daniel, and KPL (3 6th rounders and a 7th). This is also a determining factor in Trubisky's 5th year option. Just because QB salaries are so inflated, they normally get a higher comp pick rating. Mariota got a 5th round comp, so depending on what happens this year, Trubisky is either sticking around as QB1 or the Bears are getting a comp pick in 2022.

I think the level of culpability will be displayed based on the 5th year option execution. If they pick it up, he probably was not the main problem. If they don't pick it up, you have to believe that a lot was on him. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense any other way. My personal belief is that Nagy has become frustrated with Trubisky's lack of understanding and/or ability to read the defense. You can only teach so much and at some point the pupil has to do it himself. Nagy was telling Mitch what to do thru the helmet audio for pretty much the entire year after Mitch walked to the line, then backed out. That should not be happening with a 3rd year QB.

It looks like the Bears are not expected to pick up the 5th year option. This will be the ultimate litmus test on how the team feels about Mitch. If they had any hope he would turn it around, this would be a no brainer. If they truly feel he has hit his ceiling and Foles is the clear QB1, then they won't pick it up. It seems like it comes down to comp picks. It seems like the Bears don't want to risk losing a potential comp pick if they pick up his option, then cut him before his 5th season (like Floyd). Outside of cap numbers, that is the main risk.

All the picks seem like they all have similar traits. All are competitors and play with an edge. Watch some tape of Kmet vs Shaheen. Shaheen trips over the white lines while Kmet will not go down on first contact. I like this comment about Kmet on NFL.com: That reminds me of Montgomery, he refuses to go down. Fuller better watch out as I can see Vinder pushing for playing time and with Fuller's cap hit in 2021, he may be a cap casualty if Vinder looks good.
