Very few starters in the entire league put in much time during the preseason, so I wouldn't knock the Bears for that. Also, you have to remember how Robinson looked at the end of the last year, he will be better this year. Miller with one arm? He now has two. Shaheen is 100%, Long is 100%. Then to top that off, we replaced Howard with Montgomery, Cunningham with Davis, Mizzell with Whyte, Bellamy with Ridley, and White with Patterson. All of those are upgrades and Wims to boot. New coach calling the plays, new terminology, regardless of the QB, there is a learning curve. Maybe not for Rodgers, but all the other players have to learn it too. GB is not a bad team, but they are nowhere near the level they were at, even just a few years ago. They will need a Rodgers miracle to even have a chance to win.

This is a good way to look at how much the offense has improved in one offseason: Patterson replaced Kevin White Riley Ridley replaced Josh Bellamy Montgomery replaced Jordan Howard Davis replaced Benny Cunningham Kerrith Whyte Jr. replaced Taquan Mizzell https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/five-takeaways-bears-53-man-roster-which-good-enough-win-super-bowl-jonathan-bullard-eddy-pineiro-bradley-sowell

Here is the 53-man roster: Quarterback (2) -- Mitchell Trubisky, Chase Daniel Running back (4) -- David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, Mike Davis, Kerrith Whyte Jr. Wide receiver (6) -- Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller, Cordarrelle Patterson, Riley Ridley, Javon Wims Tight end (4) -- Trey Burton, Adam Shaheen, Ben Braunecker, Bradley Sowell Offensive line (8) -- Charles Leno Jr., Cody Whitehair, James Daniels, Kyle Long, Bobby Massie, Ted Larsen, Rashaad Coward, Cornellius Lucas Defensive line (6) -- Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman, Bilal Nichols, Roy Robertson-Harris, Nick Williams, Abdullah Anderson Outside linebacker (4) -- Khalil Mack, Leonard Floyd, Aaron Lynch, Isaiah Irving Inside Linebacker (6) -- Danny Trevathan, Roquan Smith, Nick Kwiatkoski, Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Josh Woods, Kevin Pierre-Louis Cornerback (5) -- Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, Buster Skrine, Kevin Toliver II, Duke Shelley Safety (5) -- Eddie Jackson, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Deon Bush, DeAndre Houston-Carson, Sherrick McManis Special teams (3) -- Eddy Pineiro, Pat O'Donnell, Patrick Scales Interesting that they only kept 24 on offense and 26 on defense. Alex Bars looks like the odd man out. Surprised they went with only 4x OLB's considering Floyd's and Lynch's injury histories. I really thought James Vaughters had a chance and hope he and Bars make it to the PS.

Absolutely, another way to look at it is that our roster is getting so much better top to bottom that we can afford to let a subpar draft pick go. Bullard was penciled in as a borderline starter a few years ago and can't crack the 53 this year. That shows how deep this team really is.

It's here! 5 days from kickoff. Who's pumped up? This is the most excited I have been for a season to start in a long time. This team has one of the best rosters and coaching staffs in the NFL. We have guys fully healthy (Robinson, Miller, Long, Floyd, Shaheen), with up and coming stars (Smith, RRH, Nichols) and fresh blood (Montgomery) to go with a stacked roster of Pro Bowlers. I can't see the Bears losing this one. GB and Rodgers in a new system while the Bears are in Year#2 with Nagy and Co. Montgomery is going to shine. Bears have too many weapons on offense and beasts on defense. The Bears are only favored by 3, which means Vegas sees these as even teams. Talk about disrespect. Let's show Merica who we are with a Cheesehead beat down! Bears 34-13

The Bears need to cut at least 37 players to get to 53. Here is an updated list I will keep as current as possible throughout the next few days: Bears’ cut list (24): QB Tyler Bray RB Ryan Nall RB Josh Caldwell WR Tanner Gentry WR Marvin Hall WR Jordan Williams-Lambert WR Thomas Ives TE Ian Bunting TE Jesper Horsted OL Marquez Tucker OL Joe Lowery LS John Wirtel DE Jonathan Bullard NT Daryle Banfield DE Jalen Dalton DL Jonathan Harris ILB Jameer Thurman OLB Matt Betts OLB Chuck Harris OLB Kylie Fitts CB Doyin Jibowu CB Clifton Duck CB John Franklin III CB Stephen Denmark

Lol, that's what I thought. I didn't think that made much sense. Whitehair seems like the obvious one they are trying to lock up.
-
Per our league Message Board, it looks like we are locked in for our draft: 8 pm Central Time - Tuesday September 2nd
-
Where did you hear this? Haven't seen any reports.

I would be shocked if Shaheen doesn't make the roster. I think Whyte and Nall have a shot because they both are ST'ers. Whyte can return kicks and is an upgrade over Mizzell/Cunningham. Nall is also a good STer and pass blocker and catcher, so you don't lose much when he is on the field. Whyte replaces Mizzell and Nall replaces Cunningham.
-
Miller will be fine. I am not concerned with him as the injuries were completely unrelated (upper vs lower body). He just rolled an ankle which will happen. At least he gets a few weeks to get it to 100%. I am more worried about Shaheen. We don't even need that much production from Shaheen, his sheer presence on the field creates mismatches all over.

Bill, Injuries are the wild card with any team, so it's hard for me to worry about that variable. Roster vs Roster, we are definitely a Super Bowl caliber team. Getting a first-round bye is the key to long term playoff success. Anything less than the NFCC would be a disappointment for me. However, it's hard for me to imagine losing like we did against the Eagles again. Our offense is better and technically our defense should be better (2nd year of Mack and Smith w/ training camps, Floyd with 2 arms, and HHCD vs Amos). So even if we have a tougher schedule (as do all the NFCN teams), I see us coming in around the same amount of wins. Looking at the other divisions, the East is going to have DAL and PHI, the South is going to have NO, ATL, and CAR, and the West is STL and SEA. So there shouldn't be any one team running away with the conference, which is good for us. 11-12 might get a bye this year. In the end I expect no less than 10 wins and would not be surprised if we won 13. If we start out with a win against GB at home, it will set the tone for the entire season. We then get extended rest before playing in Denver. Then we get an extra day to travel to Washington. I really expect us to start 3-0. Week 4 is tough against MIN, but it's at home and Cousins is 13-23-2 on the road compared to 23-17 at home. Week 5 is in London against the Raiders, so we could easily be 5-0 heading into the bye. That would allow us to only need to go 6-5 the rest of the way for 11 wins which should be completely reasonable. After the bye, things get interesting. We have one of the toughest 3 game stretches with NO, LAC at home followed by a game in Philly. I am hoping for 2-1 but would not be surprised with 1-2. We then get Detroit at home (win) and then play LAR in LA, followed by NYG at home. We should be 8-3 (at worst at this point) going into the short week Thanksgiving game against the Lions. We then get a few more days off, then face Dallas at home in December. We should be favored in both of those games. We then close out the season at GB, vs KC, then at MIN. If we are a SB contender, we need to win 2 of those games.

I think Mack is a safer bet now as I assume he will get more touches. Hilton definitely takes a hit though.

That's cool about Duck's uncle. He should make the PS.
-
No way will he be considered, and yeah, this would be devastating news. I just don't think they will be as bad as they were when they got Luck. This team is much better and will probably still win 5-6 games. Winners in this? The rest of the AFC South. Texans and Jags now have an easier path to playoffs.

Kicker Battle - Elliott Fry waived, Pineiro's job to lose
adam replied to Connorbear's topic in Bearstalk
Think if we traded for Vedvik, and then he goes out and misses two kicks, albeit one from 54. Talk about kicker anxiety. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/08/24/kaare-vedviks-two-field-goal-misses-concern-mike-zimmer -
21 years with Manning and Luck at QB and the Colts won 1x Super Bowl (against us no less). Interestingly, Manning won another one with the Broncos while the Colts have nothing to show for the Luck era. 27 years of Favre and Rodgers and the Fudge Packers only won 2. Crazy to think about how many wasted seasons these two franchises had with those QBs. 34 playoff berths between those two teams with those QB's (in 48 seasons) and only 3 Super Bowl wins. 1. Manning 11/14 (rookie year, and 1 year to injury) 2. Rodgers - 8/11 (1 year due to injury) 3. Favre - 11/16 4. Luck - 4/7 (1 year due to injury) Rodgers only needs to be sacked 27 more times to become #1 on the GB Franchise Record Books. I figure he will reach that by mid-season after Week 1
