Yeah, total bush league on McDaniels part. Should never have "agreed in principle" to a deal and then backed out. Colts and Ballard look really bad. This is the guy you interviewed and thought he was the best guy for the job? Then you announce his hiring prior to a signed contract? That looks pretty horrible. Pace looks like a beast. He went out and got his QB before anyone else and did the same for his HC. You have to give him credit for going all in. Nagy looks like the real deal and his staff is stacked. Now Pace needs to hit on some free agents and the draft again.

I know Amerson was discussed on this board back when he was drafted as a potential target.

I'm not sold on Mahomes after one game in Week 17, but I like him more than Kizer. I think all 3 first rounders will all end up being starters which makes the Browns look even worse for passing on Wentz last year as well.
-
I wouldn't say Barkley would replace Cohen, but I can see Howard and Cunningham. With all the other holes to fill, that would be a luxury pick which I don't think we can afford right now. Also, without addressing the O-Line and passing game, I don't know how effective Barkley would be anyway.
-
Quinn would be a huge upgrade, and at 27, still has some peak years left.

Definitely need to wait 3 years to see how these picks work out. Hard to imagine picking a QB, who tore his ACL for a 2nd time, with the #1 pick after knowing he tore his ACL for a 2nd time. That seems silly. Also, Mahomes and his one game in Week 17 is enough to propel him to #4?

This is great news. I was having a Twitter discussion with Olin Kruetz about the topic of how much a S&C Coach matters. He said they definitely could affect a player's conditioning level (both in a positive or negative way). I didn't think they played as big of a role as they did in the past since it seems like everyone has their own personal trainers, but I have to believe Olin over my own speculation.

This is the same Mike Furrey that had over 1,000 yards receiving and 98 receptions (2nd in the NFL) in 2006 with the Lions. One of his 100 yard games that year was against us, lol. When he played with the Rams, he actually played Safety and WR. His career ended early due to concussions. We gave him a look back in 2010: I like the diversity of experience with this staff, no two coaches have similar backgrounds. This is a guy with collegiate coaching experience and has played WR in the NFL (at a high level for at least one year).

Great offseason for Pace and the coaching staff. Hopefully we can be this successful in free agency and the draft. This is what I envisioned when Pace was hired.

Fangio signed a 3-yr deal w/ the team from Chicago. /thread

Nagy had a great press conference. The tone was so different than it was for Trestman and Fox. Compared to Fox, Trestman, and to an extent Lovie, Nagy is going to be a breath of fresh air. He is really passionate about the job and I love the fact that he played QB.

That was ugly, he was clearly out-schemed.

Some cool stories about Nagy from earlier this year, former Delaware QB that still holds some school records: http://lancasteronline.com/sports/football...459618301e.html https://arrowheadaddict.com/2017/05/27/chie...nfl-head-coach/ Brad Childress on Nagy: “He’s played the quarterback position, so he gets it,” Childress said Thursday about Nagy via quotes from the Chiefs. “He knows how to teach. He’s got a great demeanor about him. He’s got a creative mind. I think he’s got everything going for him. He’s a future head coach in this league.” From Adam Caplan (NFL.com): "Andy Reid told me that Matt Nagy is the best head-coaching candidate he's ever had," Caplan said. "He told me that at the owner's meetings. I just happened to ask him who some candidates are on his roster of coaches and he loves Matt Nagy, who he had in Philly." From KC beat writer: "Anyway, Bears fans, nothing is certain in the NFL, but I think Nagy, because of his personality and playcalling knack, is one of the best head coaching candidates Reid has had in Kansas City (better than the Eagles’ Doug Pederson), and I think your team made a good hire. Take that for it’s worth."
-
Just based on what I have read, Nagy is a great hire (Reid called him the best assistant he ever had). The Bears had to move quick in order to attempt to keep Fangio who's contract runs out tomorrow.

I can't see him working out, I think he will be gone in 2-3 years. You can't be out of the game that long and magically come back in and be successful. I know he was in broadcasting, but coaching is such a task-oriented business, and so much changes behind the scenes that I would be shocked if he does any of importance.

Here Loggains is ranked the worst play caller in the league (Nov 2017): http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/page/32for...r-offense-ranks Loggains was bad in Tennessee too, so he is trending downward. He is more suited for the college ranks. The difference in Miami is that Loggains won't be doing the play calling, which is a big deal. An OC that doesn't call plays is like a painter that doesn't paint. On Shurmur, he coached Cleveland, so it is hard to use that to evaluate him. The league needed to see more, they got that with him in Minnesota.
-
He was bad in Tennessee, horrible in Chicago, and the Dolphins were pretty bad this year. I can't see how he would "help" them in any way.

Rapoport loses credibility with me calling it a big hire. Either he is serious, or joking and brilliant. Either way, we just improved by 2 games.

Here is a rundown of the last 15 years of Super Bowls, and the type of coach (1st time or retread). If you count Belichick, retreads have appeared 19 times (63.3%), and 1st time coaches 11 times (36.7%). If you exclude Bill as an anomaly, it is 12 to 11. 2nd Time Coaches (19 appearances, 11-8) 1. Bill Belichick (Patriots) 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2017 2. Mike Shanahan (Broncos) 1998, 1999 3. Tom Coughlin (Giants) 2008, 2012 4. Dan Reeves 5. Dick Vermeil 6. Jon Gruden 7. Mike Holmgren 8. Tony Dungy 9. John Fox 10. Gary Kubiak 11. Pete Carroll 1st Time Coaches (11 appearances, 4-7) 1. Dan Quinn (Falcons) 2017 2. Ron Rivera (Panthers) 2016 3. John Harbaugh (Ravens) 2013 4. Jim Harbaugh (49ers) 2013 5. Mike McCarthy (Packers) 2011 6. Mike Tomlin (Steelers) 2011, 2009 7. Sean Payton (Saints) 2010 8. Jim Caldwell (Colts) 2010 9. Just checking back in with the season now over, did payouts go out to the top 3?
-
I was initially against McDaniels, but it looks like he has learned some good lessons and hopefully is a better person/coach. I don't think he was quite ready to handle the job in Denver.
-
The two year extension is to provide some consistency with the new coach. If Pace doesn't get an extension, his contract would come due after this coming season. Now he is here thru 2021, so if they sign a new coach to a 3yr deal, he knows he will at least have the same GM for that entire timeframe, which makes sense. Also, I think Pace has done enough to warrant an extension. The roster was completely gutted by Emery and Angelo left him with very little after the Cutler trade.

We play the AFC East and NFC West, while drawing the NYG and TB in the remaining games. GB gets WAS and ATL, DET gets DAL and CAR, and MIN gets PHI and NO. Otherwise we have common opponents. Based on home/away, we get NE, SEA, and LAR at home, and our toughest opponent away (out of division) is BUF. 2018 schedule: HOME MIN (13-3)* W DET (9-7) W GB (7-9) W LAR (11-5)* L SEA (9-7) L NE (13-3)* L NYJ (5-11) W TB (5-11) W AWAY MIN (13-3)* L DET (9-7) L GB (7-9) L ARZ (8-8) W SF (6-10) L BUF (9-7)* L MIA (6-10) W NYG (3-13) W *Playoff Teams I am hoping we can split the division (3-3), beat the Jets and Bucs at home, Dolphins and Giants away, and split ARZ/SF for an 8-8 record. If we can somehow beat NE/SEA/LAR at home (or go 4-2 in the division), then we could reach 9-7.

1. Browns - Yes 2. Giants - Yes (but depends on how they view Eli, may not use with this pick) 3. Colts - No 4. Browns - No (assuming they took one at #1) 5. Broncos - Yes (but may be in the Cousins sweepstakes, or they like Osweiler) 6. Jets - Yes 7. Bucs - No 8. Bears So there is a good chance 3x QBs and Barkley go before we pick. That gives us the 4th best positional player (outside of QB/RB).
