Why would we sign a 31 yr old DE, not address OT until the 5th round, sign a FA TE and then draft another, then draft an RB? I think we can do better than that.
-
It will suck if we just cut him and get absolutely nothing in return for how many picks we gave up for him originally.

I wanted to take a unit approach look to evaluating our offseason needs. I think it is pretty evident where we need help, but wanted to verify it with some comparisons (by unit). So I looked at PFF Rankings (and will follow with a few more) to see how we looked compared to NE and ATL. Here are the latest rankings I could find by unit: NE QB - 1st, OLine - 10th, Receiving Corps - 6th, RB Units - 18th Front-7 - 18th, Secondary - 3rd ATL QB - 2nd, OLine - 6th, Receiving Corps - 1st, RB Units - 8th Front-7 - 24th, Secondary - 6th CHI QB - 26th, OLine - 15th, Receiving Corps - 28th, RB Units - 17th Front-7 - 23rd, Secondary - 30th This is how we compared to the lower of the two Super Bowl teams: -24 QB, -5 OL, -22 WR/TE, +1 RB, +1 DL/LB, -24 DB Looking at that, we have critical needs at QB and DB, with WR/TE a close 3rd, then there is a huge gap to OLine where our need centers around our Tackles. RB and Front-7 are actually better than the lower SB team, though our Front-7 is still ranked 23rd. So using this as an offseason priority list, it would look something like this: QB, DB, WR/TE, OL, DL Nothing too surprising there, however, I think I was giving our Receiving Corps too much credit and may have to revisit drafting a WR or TE earlier than I originally thought we needed to. Also, there is a case to be made that we need multiple DB's before going DL.

Yeah, just missed him when I was totaling (not like there were a lot). RG3 distracted me. How about 2 All-Pro votes (total) and 7 of 26 QBs made Pro Bowl (which includes RG3 and excludes Flacco).
-
I will give you Luck, I glossed over him on the table. That is still 4 out of 26 considered Franchise QB's. Would you want any of the others, and do you think any of the other guys will actually lead their team to a Super Bowl? Tannehill has shown who he is and I don't know if he will get much better than what he has shown. To me, Stafford has always been overrated. When you spend most of your career just flinging the ball up in the vicinity of Megatron, then you are going to have good numbers. He has also never won a playoff game. I included Cam in the 3. I think it is still too early for Winston, Wentz, or Mariota. Bortles is mediocre at best and was arguably the worst full-time starter in the league last year. He has the same amount of turnovers (69) as he has TD passes and a lifetime QB rating of 79.6, I'll pass.

Of the 1st round QB's drafted in the last 10 years, only 5 out of 26 have a winning record, and only 3 are legit Franchise QBs (Ryan, Flacco, Newton): The last few years have really not provided that much.

Here ya go from ESPN Insider: also:

If this becomes a 2nd rounder only, do we do it? Is Garrapolo have more potential than Trubisky, Watson, or Kizer? Is the current staff (Fox) want to go thru a few years of a growing pains with a rookie QB or would they want someone more established? If not Garrapolo, what about Taylor or Glennon?
-
For a trade, I would almost want to move down in the first to get another pick (if we used 2nd on Garrapolo), because the sweet spot in the draft seems like it is 2nd-4th round (in terms of value).

Best TE when he plays. Who knows how long he will play or how many games you will get out of him, but I have a feeling his days are numbered.

Actually, you could make a point that NE has a horrible track record with large player contracts: Milloy, plays only 3 years of 7 year deal with Patriots after signing largest contract ever for a Safety, 4 INTs over those 3 years Colvin, plays 6 of 7 years with team, but only starts 3 games in first 2 years of contract and ends with a similar thud Thomas, plays only 3 years of 5 year deal, with minimal impact after taking largest cap hit in the league Mankins, becomes highest paid Guard, plays 3 of 5 years with team before being traded Mayo, becomes 2nd highest paid LB, then plays only 1 full season of 5 year deal and retires before contract ends

Man, you nailed it. For #2, come on, you got this, .......... Brandon Hardin: The second half of #2 was loosely tied to White.

I saw the same thing posted on another site. With new DC's background, there may be a few players that don't "fit" and new regime will look to move on from those players as quick as possible. Also aligns with us having a plethora of 4-3 DE's playing OLB (Houston, Young, etc) who could be potentially available.

A nightmare draft would have a combination of the following elements: 1. reaching for no-name player 2. drafting an injury risk or guy coming off injury who "may be ready by preseason" 3. over drafting one position 4. passing on a guy who has dropped just because every else has 5. drafting a guy out of position but who has "intangibles" 6. drafting someone on combine numbers alone 7. drafting an RB high 8. trading up or trading down and losing value
-
So a rookie has career ending injury in Week 1 at 22 yrs old and is paid worker's comp until he is 35; a 33 yr old journeyman gets hurt and is paid until he is 38. This makes too much sense.

#75 - Jordan Howard https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-top-10...016-nfl-season/ Hard to believe that Hicks didn't make it.
-
They won't let him go for nothing. They will either tag him again, or tag and trade.
-
I would love Cousins, but I don't see Washington letting him go. If he was available, I would be willing to pay $20-22mil for him, easily.
-
Interestingly enough, if you compare their defensive pts against rank for their Super Bowl wins, it amazingly close: NE 5 wins: 1st, 8th, 2nd, 1st, 6th PIT 4 wins: 5th, 1st, 2nd, 2nd So NE actually won 2 years when they had the #1 scoring defense, and Pittsburgh only did it once, and Pittsburgh had a top 5 offense every year they won.

MJ is the GOAT, regardless of era. Brady is clearly the GOAT now, in terms of QB's. Just take a look as his leading receiver and leading rusher every year. It is borderline comical what he has done with some of those guys, and Cutler couldn't do half that with Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, and Forte.
-
The calls were pretty justified, if you were talking about the holding calls, those were easy calls. I actually thought Atlanta got away with a few late hits on Edelman out of bounds that weren't called.
-
I actually think they may go a different route and sign or trade for more vets (instead of wanting draft picks) in a "win now" mode knowing they only have 2-3 years left. I can also see a lot of free agents taking a pay cut to play for them given the opportunity.
-
I don't think Jones and Garrapolo are comparable, Jones was looking to cash in big and NE didn't want to pay him what he wanted. I don't see Garrapolo asking for starter money or even asking for a trade. The expectation has always been that they will trade Garrapolo just because he is coming up on his rookie contract, but nothing is stopping them from trying to sign him to an extension (as a backup). Brissett didn't look too good in his only appearance and I don't think they see him on par with Garrapolo. Also, NE just proved again they were correct, Jones is at home about to be a free agent after spending a year on a losing team, Arizona does not even have him under contract anymore, and NE won the Super Bowl.
-
Brady is GOAT, no doubt now, but man, Atlanta choked. Matty Ice was melted, he is going to end up one of those guys that can put up great post season numbers but comes up short in the post season.
-
Not the way the Pats are playing. Falcons are dominating, Pats are old and tired. If Pats lose, Brady will be 4-3 in Super Bowls, still GOAT? If they win, then no doubt. Lady Gaga was actually decent.
