  1. On 1st Down, Rodgers runs for 2 (not much room and 8 in the box). On 2nd Down, pass batted down at the LoS. On 3rd Down, Cutler throws high and incomplete and we have our 3rd 3-and-out. Offense looks like a train wreck hitting a dumpster fire. O'Donnell hears me and kicks one 61 that is returned 12 yards.
  2. Bears with pressure but Smith completes to Kelce. Unrein with a personal foul (free 15 yards), then Smith scrambles for 8. Bears with a nice pass break up on 2nd, but can't stop the shallow cross for a first (even though you knew it was coming). A short rush, and back to back incompletions ends the drive with another red-zone FG. A lot pressure coming on last 2 plays. The one thing that is more noticeable on defense is that we are definitely swarming more. Almost every play we have multiples defenders making the tackle or contesting the ball. Down only by 6, but it feels like we have been dominated. One TD drive away from the lead.
  3. If he can truly kick it 60+, then there is no reason why he can't kick it 40-50 and out of bounds every time.
  4. Offense from the 20, just brutal. Langford nowhere to go on first for no gain. Cutler to a wide open Jeffery who drops the ball after it hits his hands on 2nd. Would've easily been a huge gain if not an 80 yard TD. Cutler scrambles but is contained for a short gain on 3rd. Offense looks like crap..... O'Donnell punts and finally breaks 50, but they still get a 9 yard return.
  5. Bears with a quick 3 and out, Glenn with a nice pass breakup on 3rd down. Punt and touchback. Defense is looking pretty solid.
  6. On first down, nice protection, but Cutler short hops a deep in to Jeffery for an incompletion. Langford with a nice cutback for 5 on 2nd (nice to see him not running into the backs of his blockers). On 3rd, Cutler is sacked, a double blitz where Langford picks up one, but the 2nd blitzer is unblocked. Seemed like confusion between Edison and Larsen. Now only a 44 yard punt for O'Donnell, and a 15 yard return. I can punt 44 yards; we really need a better punter. A net under 40 is unacceptable and that one was a net of 29.
  7. Offense still looks really basic. Very few shots down field yet. I agree on Larsen, he is not a starter.
  8. 2nd defensive series: Bears defense struggling with quick throws. DB's not playing close enough to stop them. Coverage sack by the defense, Hicks with the one-armed sack. He is noticeable on every play. Bears with coverage and pressure, but Smith eludes 3 players to get a long first on 3rd and long. Not good. Freeman with a HUGE stuff up the middle, then looks to get hurt as he celebrates (player pushed him from behind when he was bent over). HJQ, Hurst, and Freeman stuff a short dig route and it forces KC to kick a short FG. So far, I been impressed with Freeman, Hicks, and HJQ. Young and Houston both have been getting pressure too.
  9. On first offensive drive: Mariani for 8 yards on first down, Langford goes nowhere on 2nd, then breaks a tackle behind the LoS on 3rd and gets the first. Nice to see the yards after contact. Langford with a great run off the right side for 10 and another first. Larsen with a false start and then Langford with nowhere to go on a stretch play to the left. A quick throw to White for 3 on 2nd. Cutler scrambles up the middle on 3rd, but doesn't have enough for a first. On the punt, O'Donnell hits it for 49, but they get a 18 yard return. I am still waiting for all those awesome 60-70 yards punts from O'Donnell.
  10. This is a big game as a dress rehearsal for the season. Most starters won't play next week. Bears win toss then defer (never understand that in preseason). With defense on field first, Smith dinks and dunks us to death to right past mid field, but Bears hold strong and force a punt from 42. Young with a nice pursuit tackle across field, and no real broken tackles or long plays. Run defense very stout so far, 4 runs for 6 yards.
  11. Jones was playing OLB when I was watching. I believe Bellamy is a lock due to his ST play. Braverman is destined for the PS.
  12. I know it is only preseason and they are playing against different levels of competition, but Shaw has looked better than Hoyer. Christian Jones with 1.5 sacks, Floyd and Bullard split a sack. Braverman love is over, worse than Mariani in all facets of the game. Howard looked solid late. Langford, Cutler, Jeffery, Moeaki, and Oline all looked good. Freeman is going to be a tackling machine.
  13. 1st Half recap: 1st Offense: looked much improved, Cutler was sharp, Langford had a huge run and ended the half 8-55-1. Offensive line looked much better. Alshon looks ready to go. Moeaki productive. 1st Defense: Freeman with 7 solo tackles, 9 overall. Acho had a sack negated by a defensive holding penalty.
  14. Hoyer's first pass is an INT, Pats score easily with short field.
  15. Bears defense hold the Pats to a FG after a first and goal. A great goalline stand.
  16. Porter summons his inner Peanut and strips the ball at the 5, Bears ball.
  17. Moeaki with 4 catches, Housler with 2pt conversion catch.
  18. Offense looks much better, Cutler with a lot better protection. Langford with a TD run after a great run off the right side. Offense with a few holding penalties. Bellamy with a silly open field tackle on the kickoff.
  19. First drive, Cutler 5/6 for 63 yards, only incompletion was tipped at the line. A beautiful pass and catch with Jeffery.
  20. Hicks was a great addition by Pace. He definitely brings a much needed attitude back to the defense.

    Oline Changes

Good to see them cleaning up the roster at every opportunity. Quality depth is important.
  22. I should be posting during the game, and I agree, I really enjoy our little community that we have here.
  23. AZ, you are correct that the game and outcome are meaningless, but I didn't see any really strong individual efforts outside of Washington really. You are right about Hall, but he was making plays and was at least in the correct spot to make them. He may have been a little reactive (thus the step slow), but otherwise, I thought he looked good in his first live action. The only thing I can think of is that the team in general is being very close guarded on schemes, etc, to not tip their hand. I can just see that being something Fox does. I expect a better overall effort next week.
  24. Yeah, in a way, playing bad will actually make them get better (quicker) because they won't have a false sense of accomplishment. Hopefully everyone gets motivated and pushes harder to improve. Also, they will have a lot of tape to use as teaching points (what not to do). So hopefully we will see a marked improvement going forward.
  25. Did we watch the same game? That was one of the worst showings I have seen in a long time. Yes it was only the first preseason game, but I didn't expect the team to look that bad, and for the entire game, at home no less. It was the first time the Bears have been shut out in preseason since Aug. 15, 1981!!!!!! The only players that stood out were: Washington (who got hurt), Hall and Floyd (who actually busted thru a double team on one play and had a couple of pressures) The only player on offense that stood out even in the least bit was Thompson (and that was on one play). Due to his special teams play, he is going to be a roster lock. I am assuming Royal's cap hit will prevent him from being cut but he was so bad I don't even know if he played. Now for the other bad, the O-Line was horrible, none of the QB's had time and any longer developing play resulted in a sack. There were very few holes and RB's were constantly getting hit behind the LOS, it was hard to evaluate their performance. I don't know why they tried Whitehair at Center (instead of letting him learn LG) because he was brutal at center. Braverman was bad all around and I don't know if he will survive the next wave of cuts, Bellamy made a few catches and I assume will be ahead of Braverman on the depth chart again. TE's were non-existent. FB's were bad. Front-7 generated some pressure, but Denver was able to dink and dunk all over us. The secondary (Callahan really) gave up the TD to Thomas, but overall the secondary was decent (Fuller was at least not bad). How about special teams, Prosinski blocked a FG but we had a punt blocked and returned for a TD, and our punt coverage was horrible. That needs to be fixed. Either megapunt needs to start punting 65 yarders like he capable of or he needs to start angling 40 yarders out of bounds, because these 50 yarders that are returned for 15 don't help much. In the end the score was: Denver offense: 13 Denver Special Teams: 7 Denver defense: 2 Bears entire organization: 0
