  1. Damn, Cutler leads the team down for the TD on some crazy plays, all on him. Then like we have cable, we run a draw and get no gain on the 2pt conversion. I would not have taken the ball out of Cutler's hands on that play. Terrible play call.
  2. This game has been crazy, we are somehow going to get the ball back with just under 2 mins remaining and 2 TOs after they got the ball with 2:30 left. This will be the offense's 3rd chance to tie this game.
  3. What is crazy is if you didn't watch the game, you are going to say Cutler sucked, but he has been on the run all game with no running game and Wilson and Bellamy as the top 2 receivers.
  4. Wow, and that sums up this game, Cutler gets hit from behind and the ball is intercepted by a lineman. Unbelievable.
  5. Offense was really limited today against this defense with Alshon and Forte. Bennett again non-existent. Defense got shredded on the ground which made it easier for Osweiler in the passing game. 10 for 137 to TEs.
  6. Damn Cutler drives team all the way for tying score and we stall after getting a 1st and goal. Cutler had a couple of opportunities to run and probably should have. The way the defense is playing, it is probably the ball game and the season right there.
  7. Its gonna be tough without Alshon, but he was basically a non-factor last game. As long as the defense can pressure Osweiler, we have a chance. It looks like they are saving everyone for the GB game, which is understandable. If there was one game we can't lose out of the next two, it is the GB game.
  8. Denver favored by a point; our offense seems to have the advantage and their defense has the edge. Very similar to the Rams game, except we are at home. No Ware for Denver, so that will help our offense, and Osweiler in at QB. He is probably better than Manning at this point, but he is error-prone and if we can get some pressure, I feel like we will have the edge. As many have mentioned, we need a win to have any realistic chance at the playoffs. We are also 1-3 at home, something we need to improve on. Bears 27 - Broncos 16
  9. Ball security is a fundamental and definitely something you can work on. This is surprising: Tyler Lockett - 24.2 KO AVG, 7.8 PR AVG Marc Mariani - 24.7 KO AVG, 7.2 PR AVG To me that is crazy considering Lockett has returned both a KO and punt for TDs.
  10. With everyone, including myself, complaining about Mariani, would you kick the tires on someone like Jeremy Ross? He was averaging 29 yards a return on kickoffs and over 10 on punts. Now obvsiouly he has a problem, otherwise he wouldn't get cut. He fumbles, he had 2 fumbles in the last 3 games. To me you can correct fumbling with practice, but you can't correct Mariani. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown...-154300279.html
  11. Yeah that loss sucked but Barber didn't fumble when we were up 10-0, he fumbled in OT. Tebow just led a normal drive after a punt and scored a TD. They tried an onside kick and failed, we got the ball near midfield, then had 3 runs where Barber ran out on 2nd down. After the punt Denver got the ball back at their 20 (thanks Podlesh) and Tebow got them to our 41 and Prater hit a 59 yarder. In OT, Barber fumbled on the Denver side of the field and the defense allowed Denver to get Prater close enough for a 51 yarder to win.
  12. I actually wanted us to draft Jones, but I believe he had some knee problems that limited his performance and production so far. If he could overcome those, he would be a decent flexible backup on the line.

    Remaining Schedule

7 games remaining, 4 at home, 3 away. vs DEN (7-2) - Getting Denver at the right time? Seems winnable to me @ GB (6-3) - short week hurts the most on this game, but still winnable as we are better since Week 1 and they are playing worse vs SF (3-6) - should be a winnable game at home against a bad team vs WAS (4-5) - Redskins have looked better but they don't play very good on the road @ MIN (7-2) - We match up pretty good against them and should've won at home, winnable game @ TB (4-5) - Lovie Bowl, they are sort of like the Redskins, and another winnable game vs DET (2-7) - At home, and potentially playing for a playoff spot and they will have nothing to play for According to some advanced stats, none of the remaining teams we face are in the top 10 of the league: http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/stats/2015/11/Overall/ GB 11th DEN 13th MIN 14th WAS 18th TB 19th SF 30th DET 32nd We are currently 21st, but considering our recent play we have been trending from 30th over the past few weeks.
  14. After Week 10, we are now drafting 16th, but one win or loss could shift us to 9th or 19th. We are now closer to making the playoffs than picking in the top 8. 1. CLE: 2-8 (.514 SOS) 2. TEN 2-7 (.507 SOS) 3. BAL 2-7 (.507 SOS) 4. SD: 2-7 (.510 SOS) 5. DAL 2-7 (.558 SOS) 6. DET: 2-7 (.531 SOS) 7. JAX 3-6 (.483 SOS) 8. SF 3-6 (.534 SOS) 9. NO 4-6 (.517 SOS) 10. MIA 4-5 (.483 SOS) 11. OAK 4-5 (.483 SOS) 12. SEA 4-5 (.490 SOS) 13. KC 4-5 (.497 SOS) 14. STL 4-5 (.503 SOS) 15. TB 4-5 (.503 SOS) 16. CHI 4-5 (.507 SOS) 17. WAS 4-5 (.517 SOS) 18. PHI 4-5 (.524 SOS) 19. HOU 4-5 (.527 SOS)

It would also be wise to re-sign Jenkins, Acho, and Porter to keep them around for a few more years. We have more than enough to do that, extend Alshon and Kyle, as well as make a couple of FA acquisitions.
  16. If we beat Denver on Sunday, we will have played against some tougher defenses than GB's and won. If Langford and Miller continue to play at this level and we get Alshon and Royal back fully healthy, we could potentially line up Alshon, Royal, Bennett, Miller, and Langford on every play. That would be a matchup nightmare for any team.
  17. I actually think they compliment each other pretty well with Langford as the home run hitter and dual threat lead back.

    PFF Grades

To me you can't grade without context. We were playing away, against arguably the best front-7 in football, and one of the best all-around defenses in football. Cutler took exactly what they gave him and exploited the weakness in their defense. Should he be penalized for his receivers making huge gains after the catch? No way. Also, how does Miller or Langford not score higher with their long plays alone. Those were huge game breaking plays against a defense that was one of the best against those very plays. As Jason said, PFF is complete garbage, and I really can't take them serious anymore. Their grades are purely subjective and have no statistical support or foundation. For me, you could easily isolate each player on every play and give them either a +/- grade, then add them all up based on the situation with some weights and have a better rating system than they use. Cutler had his worst game of the year according to PFF, and even though he wasn't slinging it deep to Alshon for 20-30 yard gains, I thought he was very efficient and played error free football. It might not have been his best passing game (due to Alshon being limited), but he did enough to give us a 37-13 win on the road. If that is a bad game, I hope he has more of those. The other odd anomaly is most of the media, local and national praised Cutler and said this was potentially his best game. That is what I saw. He wasn't flashy, but he took advantage of what STL gave him and it worked flawlessly. If not for a Mariani fumble, it might've been an even bigger blowout.
  19. So here is a crazy one, what if a player jumps straight up for a ball and lands on two feet stationary with the ball held with two hands. At what point does it become a catch if he is not moving (making a football move or becoming a runner)? Is there a time limit? Since he is not making a 3rd step (he hasn't become a runner) and hasn't made a football move. When is the catch completed? Can a DB go over there 1-2 seconds later and knock the ball out? If he gets tackled 2 seconds later and the ball comes out when he is taken to the ground, is it incomplete? Shouldn't the play end when his knee or other body part touch the ground? To me there needs to be two rules for catches, contested and uncontested. If you catch the ball and there is no defender in contact with you, and you get two feet down and catch the ball, it is immediately a catch. If you are in the end zone, the play ends and it is a TD. If the player gets stripped in the field of play after this point, it is a fumble. For contested catches, if a defender is in contact with the receiver, then they must get two feet inbounds with a 3rd step or body part touching (in or out of bounds) to the complete the catch. If the ball gets stripped before the 3rd step, then it is incomplete. In the same sense, if you make an contested catch, have two feet on the ground, then go to the ground and your elbow hits the ground, you are down. If the ball comes out, the ground can't cause a fumble, so it shouldn't cause an incompletion either.

    Zach Miller

I wouldn't mind locking them both up for a couple of years. Gronk and Hernandez were a pretty crazy TE duo. Miller and Bennett are different enough that both could have roles in this offense. That would take TE off the "needs" list for a few years while we pile up in other need areas.
  21. We basically have to go 6-1 in our last 7 to have a chance with tie breakers. We also need either MIN or GB to beat each other twice. A split would be the worst for us since that would almost assure both of them a 10 win season. So if we don't pass either of those two teams, they split and go 11-5 and 10-6, we will need to pass SEA and ATL. For ATL, even if they go 10-6 and win 4 games (IND, TB, JAX, NO) and lose 3 (CARx2, MIN), they would be 6-6 in the CONF and 2-3 in common games. If we go 6-1 but beat WAS, TB, SF, and MIN, we would be 4-1 in common games and own the higher tie breaker. For SEA, they have the easiest schedule and own the head to head tie breaker with us, so our only hope is they lose at least two games (PIT, MIN, or ARZ) and go no higher than 9-7. We still would need 10 wins and a 6-1 record in our last 7 to do that. CHI 4-5 (1-5 CONF w/6 to play in CONF) Denver - L/W @ Green Bay - L/W San Francisco - W Washington - W @ Minnesota - L/W @ Tampa Bay - W Detroit - W Worst Case 8-8, best case 10-6 DIV MIN 7-2 (3-0 DIV/4-1 CONF) Green Bay - L/W @ Atlanta - W Seattle - L/W @ Arizona - L Chicago - L/W NY Giants - W @ Green Bay - L Worst Case - 9-7 / 11-5 WC GB 6-3 (1-1 DIV/4-2 CONF) @ Minnesota - L/W Chicago - L/W @ Detroit - W Dallas - L/W @ Oakland - L/W @ Arizona - L Minnesota - W Worst Case - 8-8 / 11-5 WC ATL 6-3 (4-3 CONF w/5 to play in CONF) Indianapolis - L/W Minnesota - L @ Tampa Bay - L/W @ Carolina - L @ Jacksonville - W Carolina - L New Orleans - W Worst Case - 8-8 / 10-6 SEA 4-5 (4-4 CONF, beat us H2H) San Francisco - W Pittsburgh - L/W @ Minnesota - L/W @ Baltimore - W Cleveland - W St. Louis - W @ Arizona - L Worst case 8-8, best case 10-6 An ATL and GB loss this week, with a win by us would be huge. The interesting part is Minnesota is the one team that plays us, GB, ATL, and SEA. So their games are going to have the biggest impact on the playoffs going forward. That Week 17 game of MIN at GB might decide the division and potential WC team.
  22. So my question is, if Butler stripped the ball out and then caught it himself inbounds, would that have been ruled an INT? Same for Tate's, if Fuller just pulled the ball to the ground, would that have been just an incompletion? For us, it seems like they didn't want to give us the INT, but would've given us the incompletion. One of the most subjective calls in all of sports.

If we were strapped for cap space, I think it would be something to consider. However, given our cap space, we may actually be hard pressed to get to the cap floor (even though it is for a multi-year period).
