Bleacher Report: Bears looking to move up for Mariotta
adam replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
The Titans and Vanderbilt are both in Nashville (about 2.5 miles away from each other), so there is a pretty big following in that area for both teams. Not as big as Vandy baseball, but still popular. However, the consensus among fans is they don't want Cutler. Also, I am against moving up or trading for players when we lose picks. Look what Cutler turned into: 1st Round 2009 (18) - Could've been Alex Mack or Clay Matthews 1st Round 2010 (11) - Denver traded down to #13, picked up #113, traded down to #24, picked up 2x 3rd Rounders (Eric Decker, WR, #87), used #113 to move up to #22 (selected Demaryius Thomas). NE used #113 on Aaron Hernandez. NE traded #24 to Dallas (who selected Dez Bryant). NE moved to #27 and selected McCourty. 3rd Round 2009 (84) - Mike Wallace, WR So we could've had Clay Matthews, Dez Bryant, Aaron Hernandez, Eric Decker, and Mike Wallace and an extra 3rd Rounder. Those two years devoid of early picks is another reason why we have so few players on the team that were drafted by us. -
This guy was spot on as were many others. I had mixed feelings and was honestly trying to figure out what the hell Emery was doing. This is how bad Emery was too, he telegraphed everything:

With the 19th pick, the Cleveland Browns select La'el Collins, OT, LSU. Cleveland anchors both lines with instant starters. The Philadelphia Eagles (Stinger226) are now on the clock....
-
I wouldn't want to even look at TE until the 5th. I would consider a flyer on someone like this in the 6th or as a UDFA: James O'Shaughnessy
-
I really hope he can live up to his contract, because having McPhee, Houston, and Young all sort of interchangeable throughout the front 7 would be interesting.
-
Yeah, at the time, Terrell was the consensus pick. GB selected Jamal Reynolds two picks after us (he played in 18 games total). The next two WRs (Koren Robinson and Rod Gardner). I think SMC should be on there due to the following players being drafted right after him: 20 - Kendall Wright (215 career receptions) - Jeffery/Wright/Royal 21 - Chandler Jones (150 tackles, 22 sacks) - Jones/McPhee 23 - Riley Reiff (32 starts) - Reiff vs Mills? 24 - David DeCastro (24 starts) DeCastro vs Mills? 25 - Donta Hightower (246 tackles, 11 sacks) Hightower vs Bostic? 26 - Whitney Mercilus (122 tackles, 18 sacks) Mercilus/McPhee 27 - Kevin Zeitler (39 starts) Zeitler vs Mills? 29 - Harrison Smith (255 tackles, 10 INTs) Smith vs anyone on Bears roster since Mike Brown 31 - Doug Martin (Pro Bowl) - luxury pick but Forte/Martin would be a pretty solid duo SMC (80 tackles, 7.5 sacks) - meh, ho hum, erectile dysfunction

Hard to argue with the needs, though with the loss of Marshall, I would say WR is now #1 or #2. I wonder which position would yield the biggest single upgrade from the #7 pick? Here is how I see it going into this draft: Tier 1 Needs (Replace voids) 1. WR (White/Cooper/Parker vs Wilson) - Wilson is a late round pick and can't be counted on as anything other than depth, I feel like he is too small/weak to be a #2. Needs to compliment Jeffery/Royal. 2. O-Line (Scherff/Collins/Peat vs Mills) - Mills was brutal last year and we can fill with Long sliding over or bringing in a new RT (who could slide to LT when Bushrod is gone). Tier 2 Needs (Replace aging vets or underperformers) 1. DE (Williams/Brown vs Jenkins/Sutton) - New scheme, Jenkins with only experience outside of McDonald. Just like O-Line, have to win in the trenches. 2. S (Collins vs Mundy/Vereen) - Rolle/Mundy are aging vets so we could use some youth here. Very thin on the roster, so we are drafting a Safety in 1st 3-4 rounds. 3. DT (Shelton vs Ferguson/Ratliff) - Ratliff has only a year or two left, and just like DE, need to win the battle at the line to take pressure off LBs and DBs. 4. CB (Waynes vs Jennings) - Jennings is on the downside of his career, need some shutdown capabilities on the outside. 5. OLB (Beasley/Fowler vs Allen/Houston/Young) - Old/injured, a lot of questions marks, even though it seems like we have a lot of in house options and added McPhee/Acho. 6. ILB (Kendricks/McKinney vs Bostic/Jones/Foster) - New scheme and Bostic looked lost at times. 7. RB (Gurley/Gordon vs Forte/Carey) - Forte nearing the end of his window, Carey still unproven. 8. QB (Winston/Mariota/Petty vs Cutler) - This could go from here to #1 depending on how staff views Cutler. 9. TE (Williams vs Bennett) - Bennett has a few more solid years in him.

Bleacher Report: Bears looking to move up for Mariotta

Pretty funny that no one hears about the auction until after no one bids on his football. I would've for $100, especially with it going to charity. -
He could fall to us at 39, but like you said, is probably a trade down candidate.
-
I always find it funny when someone does an analysis like this with no point. To me the numbers are very misleading. 6 players are 30, and 8 our 31-33. Of those 8, 2 are our Kicker and Long Snapper. That leaves 6 players of age concern to me: Allen (gone after this year), Ratliff (only 1 or 2 years left), Rolle (stop gap Safety for 2 years), Montgomery (Centers can play into their mid-30's), Jennings (likely gone after this year), and Cutler (QB age is a non-factor at 31). Our team's average age is 26.1. https://twitter.com/JimmyKempski/status/585038173056569344

So the option is Cutler and #7 pick or Mariota? I will take Cutler and #7. I don't even know if I would trade Cutler outright for Mariota. -
That would be insane. DL - Williams, LB - McKinney, CB - Expre-Olomu, S - Smith would infuse youth and talent into all levels of the defense. Havenstein would be a solid add to the line and why not on Mannion at that point.
-
Jason, You absolutely have to take Williams. He would be an anchor DE in our 3-4 for the next decade. Obviously this would be similar to taking Shelton first. Can you link some of the Fanspeak drafts to see who was available in later rounds? I would probably look WR or DB in the next two rounds.
-
With the 12th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft the Cleveland Browns select Danny Shelton, DT, Washington. New Orleans Saints (Stinger226) are now on the clock.
-
Actually, based on last season, Montgomery comes in as our 3rd best O-Linemen. Bushrod was bad, and Mills was horrible, and Montgomery is an upgrade over Garza.
-
With the 9th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select Brandon Scherff, OL, Iowa The St. Louis Rams (bradjock) are now on the clock..... I also added the CBS Sports Big Board at the bottom of my first post so we don't miss anyone.
-
Yeah, based on my top-5 non-QBs (Williams, Beasley, Fowler, White, Cooper), he was the only one left and worthy of #7. I would not be complaining if we picked him up.
-
I used 5 different Big Boards and ran the Fanspeak simulator 5 times to see how the different perspectives (big boards) would change the draft for us at 7. Using this method, 3 players were off the board at 7 every time (Winston, Mariota, Fowler). Williams, Beasley, Ray, Cooper, and La'el Collins were all selected multiple times before #7. So two of those five will be available at #7, and all of these should be available: White, Scherff, Shelton, Waynes, Parker, Dupree, Landon Collins. I am leaning towards believing the only players with #7 value are Beasley, Fowler, Williams, Cooper, and White. If we were going to select someone else, there will definitely be a few to choose from at 12 or 13.
-
Regardless of trade down or not, we are going to get a great player at 7, and at least 2 good players at 39 and 71. Hopefully 3 more holes filled with starter potential. From 4-6, it is more of a crapshoot.
-
With the 5th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select: Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson. New York Jets (killakrzydav) are now on the clock.......
-
Thanks guys, I took the last two. So without further ado, we can start this thing. Any of my teams are available if someone else wants to join in before the selection.... With the #1 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Tampa Bay and Stinger226 are now on the clock.........
-
Yeah sounds about right because we have started to essentially swap cap hits with the last few signings since we have been cutting others. Also, I figure we will leave some flexibility in the cap for June 1st cuts.
-
Last call for the following teams? Washington #5 Bengals #21 Cardinals #24 Broncos #28 If no one wants them, I will take them, and we still start the draft.
-
I am not against Scherff in the first, but it would hard to do that over some of the other guys at #7.
