  1. Baltimore won in Lovie's last year (Seattle won in Trestman's first). Also, you were way off on that Ravens team, they were actually 10th in scoring (398) and 12th in pts allowed (344). If you look back over the past decade, teams with better offenses (scoring) have won 6 out of the last 10. PIT x2, GB, and SEA all had stronger defenses than offenses when they won (and GB had a great offense too). Pittsburgh is the only team to win a SB with a team that ranked in the 20's in scoring over that period. This would lead me to believe that you want a top 10 offense and a top 20 defense at minimum, but a top 10 defense and top 20 offense may not give you enough pts to be competitive.
  2. Wesson, I don't think it comes down to one unit over another. If you look at the one trend with all those numbers is we never had a losing record with a postive pts differential, and never had a winning record when we had a negative differential (regardless of how many pts we scored or allowed). Our best year was in 2006 when we had +172 and made it to the SB. Looking at the teams with consistent success, they also don't have huge drop-offs from starters to the guys at the bottom of their 53-man roster. New England is the master of the role player, and guys aren't really backups compared to situational players. Our roster has mainly been very vanilla with starters and subs, and there has always been a pretty steep drop-off. So sometimes improving the bottom of the roster is just as important as improving the top.
  3. Good point. Foster has a lot of upside and I have faith in Fox and Fangio to get that out of our guys. Going from Tucker to Fangio is a massive upgrade.
  4. Probably $1mil more than I expected. Maclin averaged $11, and T. Smith averaged $8 per year. Maclin and Smith both have only had 1 year over 1k. Smith only had 49 receptions last year. So there is some risk there too. Maclin paid as a top 5 WR? Looking at those contracts, Royal's was probably inflated by $1mil.
  5. Yeah, I can't wait until he is back on his tv show. You know there is more to follow. There had to be a lot going on for the organization to give him away for a 5th rounder.
  6. #93 on NFL.com, converted from CB to S, plays special teams.
  7. He is ranked #62 on NFL.com. He had a down year under LOLvie. We can buy low on him.

    New WF Draft

3 starters, and DGB does not have a lot of pressure on him and can learn the ropes from Royal and Alshon.

    New WF Draft

Somehow we are the first team to draft a WR, and we go with White? He also has NYJ picking Waynes (CB) like they need another CB, hilarious. 7. Kevin White, WR, West Virginia 39. P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State 71. A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina 103. Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor 134. Joey Mbu, NT, Houston So we have a ridiculously bad defense, yet only 2 picks on that side of the ball? I would love Petty in the 4th, but I doubt he lasts that long. WF lost some credibility with this mock.

    Dashon Goldson cut...

He was awesome in SF and was horrible in TB. Reunion with Fangio/Donatell might help, worth a look.
  11. This would be a great addition and huge upgrade. McPhee-Foster-Rolle-Parker added to the defense, and Royal to the offense is a pretty good haul in free agency, and I think we will still pick up a few other lower tier guys.
  12. Conte and Wright back with Lovie. It didn't work here, so I don't know why it would work down there.
  13. Low risk signing, only 2.5m cap hit for this year.

    WWBBD?

You trade down (even multiple times) if you have numerous players with comparable ratings when you are picking. If you can pick up an extra pick and still get your guy 10 picks later, you do it every time. However, if you have one guy rated above and beyond the others, you have to take him based on the value. So it will come down to who is available at every pick.

    Attitude!!

Young actually outperformed everyone's expectations, Mundy was about where he was expected to be (serviceable) and Houston and Allen were busts. However, that was with a different regime. McPhee is not Houston, watch some video. Just like McPhee said, he is violent. Houston has the physical ability, but obviously doesn't have the drive. That will hopefully change with a new staff. Allen is just over the hill and was a knee jerk reaction to Peppers. For the money, it would've been better to just keep Peppers, but not much we can do about that now. Allen is not an every down player anymore. He needs to be a pass rush specialist to only come in on obvious passing downs and maximize his strengths. So right now, McPhee, Royal, Rolle >>> Houston, Young, Mundy, Allen Even the contracts are better.
  16. I am really excited over Royal. Everyone talked about Keenan Allen on SD, but Royal had comparable yards, more TDs, and a better yards per catch: Keenan Allen - 77/783, 4 TD Eddie Royal - 62/778, 7 TD and look how close Royal's stats were to Marshall's last year: Brandon Marshall - 61/721, 8 TD Even if we just get 60/700 from Royal, and get 40/500 from another WR (Wilson/rookie/FA), that would be a comparable replacement for Marshall in previous seasons (in terms of raw numbers).
  17. Yeah, that is the most likely scenario. Also remember Suh was unofficially signed for a couple of days before actually signing. These things are not necessarily automatic.
  18. Hopefully this is just something to do with contract specifics or waiting on a physical. He would be a great addition and a true slot WR threat.
  19. I could care less about the "former Ravens who underperformed" tag. This guy is legit. He came from a top notch defense and produced. If you watch his highlights, he continually wins 1v1 battles. He also played all over for the Ravens. Other 3-4 teams would be lauded for picking him up, but when the Bears do, it is "risky". I see him energizing other guys like Young, Houston, Bostic, Ferguson, and Jones in the front 7.
