  1. Well the only saving grace is if this actually makes us worse, our first and second rounders will be better next year (lol).
  2. This is far from Pace's MO. It is also counter to everything he has said in the media about taking BPA, his comments about Glennon, etc. I still can't get over the fact that we moved up one slot. I would've understood if we moved to #1 to leapfrog SF who may have been considering Trubisky, but we essentially leapfrogged ourselves. If CLE or SF felt so highly of him or any other QB, they wouldn't make the trade. So if other teams were in play, they would need to give up much more than us to move up (which would be unrealistic based on the value of the picks). If you look at the draft value chart, for teams like KC and HOU, they would've had to basically give up their next two drafts to move to #2. I don't mind the pick, but there was no need to trade up one slot to pick him. Looking back at the Glennon or the Sims deals, and now this. It looks like Pace is overpaying which you can only get away with so much due to the cap and the limited number of draft picks. Also, this is almost reverse to how you build a team. You need a good core in place before bringing in the franchise QB so you maximize the years of the rookie deal (see Seattle). Going the other way, QB first, has proven not to work, see Carr in Houston, Cleveland, etc. They had crappy teams, went QB instead of filling out their core, and never went anywhere because the QB got killed.

Did Seattle trade up one pick and lose 3 picks to draft Wilson?

Who plays QB for those teams? Remember both of those teams passed on Trubisky, Watson, and Mahomes. So we will see what strategy works. Cleveland deserves zero credit, when you have multiple firsts and second every year and continually draft in the top 5, eventually you will get it right. SF had zero risk in that move, literally a no-brainer.

He also said he was going BPA and had 3 player's names ready at #3, so I would take what he says with a grain of salt at this point. We just need to win.

Yeah, one move back in the 2nd and we can reacquire a 3rd, making the impact of the Trubisky trade a lot less. We already had two 4th's, so I had no issues using one of those.

I don't think it is a need. Sure we would like more picks but it is not like our recent 3rd and 4th rounders have been critical. As some others have pointed out, take a look at our 3rd and 4th rounders: 3rd - Bullard, Grasu 4th - Kwiatkoski, Bush, Hall, Langford

At the end of the day, I would rather go all-in and be aggressive, than sit back and hope. Hope is not a method.
  9. Yeah, the move makes it a complete boom or bust. If we just drafted him at #3, it would seem less polarizing. Now, with a move and 3 draft picks lost, it has to work or Pace is gone. I am good with it, hopefully he lives up to the hype and becomes our franchise QB for the next 15 years.
  10. I think it was the shock of it and it was completely unexpected. I don't remember a single mock with us drafting Trubisky. So as the time passes and I see what others paid (multiple firsts) it is not as bad as it initially looked, but it has to work.

Who knows, it is a done deal. I am done trying to figure out what could've happened. I need to get on the Trubisky bandwagon and pray he becomes a franchise QB, otherwise, we have a long road of losing ahead.

There was a lot of discussions about teams moving up to take QBs. Once Cleveland took Garrett, it seems that the Bears received calls for teams looking to move up to take a QB. Pace must've believed that he had no choice but to swap picks with SF, which would give SF the best pick in this draft while gaining more picks. So SF gets the player they want (not a guarantee with teams like CLE, KC, or HOU) and additional picks from us. We get our guy and don't give up more than some 3rd's and a 4th. Comparatively, HOU and KC both gave up more (in terms of draft value) by giving up multiple 1st rounders.
  13. Go play the lottery, you nailed it.

I think we are going CB or WR in the 2nd.
  17. You would never have known that he fell that far, and I don't think anyone would've questioned us if we picked Allen at #3. Also, we would still have a 3rd, 4th and a 3rd next year. If we are bad again this year, that 3rd is a high pick.
  18. I hate sounding like I hate the pick, because I don't mind Trubisky, and I understand, you have to do whatever it takes to get your guy. So as the #2 pick, he better be our guy, because we even have to pay him more than if we picked him at #3. This is essentially an all-in move. Trubisky excels and becomes a franchise QB and Pace is a genius with huge balls and Lynch looks like an idiot for not selecting Trubisky - or Trubisky is a bust, Pace is fired, and Lynch looks like the genius fleecing Pace.
  19. Based on the fact that they didn't even call him when he was selected, yes. We didn't leapfrog someone like we did last year. We swapped picks, there is no way you give up that to swap picks. If you have that prepared, you must know what other teams are offering, which there is no way to know.

Trade back to around 50, and pick a 3rd back up.
  21. Again if you think about it, we gave up #3, 2x 3rd's and a 4th for Trubisky. Are you telling me we couldn't get Garappolo for that price and then not sign Glennon? It is almost like we thought Cleveland was taking Trubisky at #1 and when he didn't go, we over-reacted and overpaid to move up one slot. Think of SF, if they don't trade with us, they don't get Thomas, he would not last past #3. So we actually had as much leverage as SF did. So if they traded with anyone else (that wanted Trubisky), they would not have been able to draft Thomas. So we should not have had to give up what we did to draft Trubisky.
